Fishing has 4 time-shifts. Fishing during the different time-periods ill sometimes yield different results, as some fish are nocturnal, others mainly come out during the day. Just like IRL!

I have asked a GM ingame and he says that the time of the day have nothing to do whit the droprate of the fish!

I just caught 8 golden darters in Allerian Stronghold in 10 minutes. So they must be a morning fish! Good luck and good fishing!

At the water just by the bridge at Stonebreaker Hold, I caught 20 darters in 35 minutes. It was between 10:10-10:45am.

yeah, catch golden darter beside stonebreaker hold, u will be able to catch a lot around 50 percent-60 percent chances

Heres my Fishing Buddy info from 10:40-11:00am

Barbed Gill Trout (37 :64.9%)
Golden Darter (10 :17.5%)
Spotted Feltail (10 :17.5%)

caught about 15 Gill trout before i started catching feltails and darters so hang in there

If you're looking to fish by the bridge north of Allerian Stronghold, you'll need a pretty high skill.

My base skill is 245.

I'm using Big Iron Fishing Pole (+20).

With Bright Baubles (+75) it said my skill wasn't high enough (which totals 340).

With Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100) I was able to fish and had a 50% success rate on catching any fish at all (total skill 365).

So unless you enjoy torture, you'll want your skill after all bonuses to probably be 375+. I'll post again when my skill is higher to report success rates, otherwise please post your experiences.

UPDATE:

When my base skill got to 300, I was successfully catching any kind of fish around 75% of the time.

I used the same pole (20) and baubles (75), so figure if you're somewhere around 400 after bonuses you'll be able to fish somewhat consistently by the bridge north of Allerian Stronghold in order to get the Darters and skill points we all so desire.

At 345 base skill with the pole and baubles I am currently catching any kind of fish around 85 - 90% of the time.

On a side note, if you're interested in fishing the raised water near Skettis in Terokkar, you'll need a really high skill to even cast. At 330 base with BIFPole and baubles (425 total skill) it said my skill was not high enough.

  You are correct, young fisher. You will need a base skill of around 350 to cast with the items you have, and base skill of 375 to get a high success rate. Get a +5 fishing skill enchant on your gloves, and invest some time flying from city to city in search of Fish Attractors. Having a skill of 500-505 will give nearly 100% success rate in fishing in Skettis, as well as greatly increasing the odds that you will fish up Mr. Pinchy.

I happened to be awake & available to play wow this morning from 4am-5am & I caught 15 Golden Darter in 1 hr. at Allerian Stronghold in Terrokar Forest.. Started with base skill of 300, which ended up @ 307.. Had a friend with Engineering skill make me the Fish Attractor lures (+100 fishing 10 mins.) .. -=>By the way you only need Engineering skill of 125 to make these lures, mats are usually available cheap on the AH<=- I would assume these fish are available in their given location(s) between 12a & 12p server time daily.

P.S. - My fishing rod as of right now sucks, yes (only +5), but I intend to win the Arcanite Fishing Rod tomorrow (Server - Eredar) .. I'll update with that afterwards. :)

Good luck with that fishing competition, but in the meantime you could just do Snapjaws, Mon! (Horde only) or Rather Be Fishin'(Horde/Alliance) for a better pole. Might make your fishing competition go a little easier too.

It did seem that fishing these during the day yields more drops than fishing at night. That said, there isn't much difference, and if you are determined I wouldn't let time of day stop you. (I caught 32 in about an hour and a half after midnight)

Not last second-strike.... last-second strike; i.e.: the strike that occurs at the last second of the fishing timer in which you can frequently click too late for your fish to register before the fishing timer ends.

you can catch them in the rivers around allerian stronghold/stonebreaker hold...sometimes you get schools, but i forget what times

I got one every 2 minutes @ Allerian Stronghold in Terokkar

Was fishing in the late afternoon and was catching them outside Stnebreaker Hold.

Great Drop Rate or them Is Under the big spinning wheel in Allerian Stronghold. I got 10 in about 5 minutes.

To start off, my fishing is at max skill (375)
I use Nat Pagle's pole (+25), and typically use the baubles (+75), so for the following results you can assume my fishing skill is 475.

I did a trial of 10 minutes each in three different locations:
1. The body of water outside Shat.
Golden Darter: 6
Spotted Feltail: 6
Remaining catches: Barbed Gill Trout

2. Body of water beside Stonebreaker Hold.
Golden Darter: 7
Spotted Feltail: 2
Remaining catches: Barbed Gill Trout, Inscibed Scrollcase

3. Body of water in Skettis.*
Golden Darter: 9
Spotted Feltail: 6
Remaining catches: Barbed Gill Trout (quite a few less of these than the other two locations)

*Note: I had a few more "your fish got away" messages here, whereas at the other two locations almost every catch was successful.

My conclusion: the quality of fish are better up in Skettis, but not worth the time unless you have a very high fishing skill, as more will get away than will be successful.

By the low amount of fish you caught, your numbers are inaccurate.

Catch 500 fish on each location, and then I might consider them as slightly valid.

I've tried the "flying around looking for schools" method. They're very often not there. Just feltail schools around in terrokar. The few times I see one, I jump on it like a coyote on a rabbit.

Best method is to just fish near Allerian Stronghold or Stonebreaker hold. It will take some time, but on my server a 20x of these goes for 25g or more. It is better ways to grind money, much better ways. But this is the best food for healers around, so obviously people will take their time getting them is it means getting that boss down.

Just fished for 27 minutes at the waterwheel by Allerian Stronghold and got the following.

362+125 skill, up to 370.

55 Barbed Gill Trout
20 Golden Darter
8 Spotted Feltail

I had fishing skill 322 + 20 from rod and + 75 from bright baubles. Fished on a little pool just outside Shattrath city (39,22 in Terokkar Forest). Change to get Golden Darters was about 28-30%. I think it's worth of upgrading your fishing skill there than get longjaw mudsnappers on noob areas:) Best part is that SC Peacekeepers are just beside you so no matter of gankers there:D

I am very confused by fishing lately. Will these fish drop only from pools, meaning a lot of hassle, flying around, competition and what not (= not worth it for me) or will they also yield from 'normal' fishing? I know that if the latter is the case it would drop significantly less than from pools, but I'd rather stand at one spot fishing for a few hours rather than flying around all day finding pools.

Yes... you can fish them from any of the waters in Terrokor Forest. My experience is a drop rate of 20-40% depending on the time of day.

Actually, this is where the Track Fish ability really comes in handy. Using that, I was able to get 26 Golden Darter in 20 minutes from School of Darter and Brackish Mixed Schools. I'm going to have to say that they're something recent though, as I've never seen them before, but it most definitely helped. The School of Darter spawns seemed to spawn more along the streams north and northeast of Allerian Stronghold.

Tried fishing under the bridge as I normally fish the lake and get quite a few missed fish. 30 minutes under the bridge resulted in no fish getting away (348 skill to start+20 pole+100 lure) and I got

21 Golden Darter
27 Spotted feltail
43 Barbed Gill trout
1 curious crate
3 inscribed scroll cases

so just about a 20% drop rate on the darters.
