Is there any1 who has played the BC beta that has tamed one of these? If so, do they actually have no skills, or is this a mistake? I'm gonna go check petopia right now.

Sorry for the lateness of putting this info here (I didn't feel like it at the time), but I checked Petopia and yes, this is indeed going to be a new pet in Burning Crusade. It also said, however, that no skills other than growl and cower are yet planned for this strange creature. No bite, claw, or any abilities other than the aforementioned two. I suspect they will either have high stats or will get some abilities when BC actually comes out.

Spore Walkers are unintelligent creatures who have evolved to their present state in Zangarmarsh in Outland. They turn the spores of the marsh into poison to kill their prey.

As you can probably tell by how many posts i've put in this section, I am very interested in this new pet. First of all, the thing about them turning spores into poison to kill prey hopefully won't (in my opinion) be made into an ability for them. There is enough poison for pets already (Scorpid Poison and Poison Spit). Not that it would be bad for them to have a special ability of their own, but they should have something unique. As stated before, maybe they will have higher stats than other pets. Personally, I think they should get some abilities. Sorry about my extremely long rant.

Quite cool pet, draws attention in Stormwind. No abilities what so ever. Yet. Have no idea if she (Moonshine Ive named her) will improve or get any abilities. Or even able to be trained.
    When tamed:

    Power 256
    Damage 146-174
    Armour 5964
    Stamina 338
    9 fire res
    4 nature res
    4 frost
Other stats arent worth to mention :)

Moonshine does not turn into anything when fighting. However this is the lvl60 "version", there are 62s that might be more interesting.

Those are only because your own gear has resistances on it.. Pets now receive a portion of that.

I used to think that too until I tamed one...with no dmagaing skills he always has focus for growl he has high armor and stamina unbuffed to go with that making them excellent tanks! I used to think these were useless but they make awesome tanks an unexpected result from not having any skills! Soloing is pretty good with a sporebat...honestly

the moment they get dive and some kind of spore poison attack they will be amazing. i plan to get sporewing and keep him for life on my hunter, these things are some of the most amazing and beautiful creatures percieved by the human eye, and they're not bad pets either, so i plan to make one my retirement pet.

I tamed one of these a few nights ago.  Level 63 it can bite and thats it.  Even though it is called a 'bat' it is not related to them apparently as I could not teach mine Screech or Dive. I got a message that said, "That ability is not available to your pet."

It is a great looking pet and that is about it.  If you want to show it off in Goldshire and impress the low levels that is about all it is good for.

Too bad.  I will stick to my cat for now.  With bite, claw, dash and cower it is hard to beat.  It is unfortunate that most of the other pets are just not as good as cats.  I know many hunters like birds, bears and raptors. But my cat has been the best I've had second only to my gorilla with stomp.  (great at drawing aggro from multiple enemies)

My advice.. unless you want a cool looking graphic stick with what works.

On a side note, they recently added dash to the raptors abilities. They could have added something to the sporebat while they were at it.  Dash or dive is a great ability and I wouldn't have a pet without it.

Blizzard should do something with this pet.  Like everyone else I was disappointed.

I do not understand why people stay away from certain pets just because they do not have Dive or Dash... I mean, it is a great ability and all and it is a somewhat major loss to the pet, but it is not the end of the world. And for all of you saying that Nether Rays and Sporbats suck balls, you obviously do not look at the real stats of a pet. Sporebats have a pretty sweet Damage output, and have some nice armor and health. And for Nether Rays, if you guys do not even look at the elite ones in The Slave Pens and The Underbog, you will never figure it out that those versions of the species are NOT CASTERS AND HAVE THE HIGHEST HEALTH OF ANY OTHER PET IN WoW. I have a 70 Hunter on the Detheroc realm, and he has had a Sporebat and Nether Ray as a pet. And even though I do not have them any longer, I highly recommend any Hunter who runs Underbog and Slave Pens to get a Sporebat or Nether Ray from those instances, and any Hunter who enters Zangarmarsh at level 60-61 to get a Sporebat from there. I do not recommend the Nether Rays from the actual zone, because THOSE versions of the species have Caster attributes. Happy hunting to all of you Hunters. I hope this post has changed your minds about Sporebats and Nether Rays. =)

Hi, well, have you ever thought that there is a good side to no abilities? for some of the few people who understand why bliz does this, it is because this is a TANKING pet.  no abilities, more room for training points.  Thats all that there need be said.  I have mine, and immediate good stats, making up for no abilities.  Happy hunting.

This pet has a crazzzzzzzzzzzzzy spell..... it casts Energizing spores adds +30 to all attributes. Check it out! I am going to keep adding to this as I learn more....it seems that if you feed the sporebat Strage Spores it gains the spell...also when you fight other sporebats it gains the spell. It dose not seem to be a self casting spell other then  those 2 ways. Well I'm not totaly sure how this all works i guess...I know that the Sporebat will eat strange spores and hes stays happy but the spell only seems to cast when i fight other sporebats. Ok so its the sporebats that im killing casting the spell...this pet just may look cool.
