Here are some stat pics below.  I took one pic of his stats when I was running somewhere and didn't have Aspect of the Hawk on, then I took another with it on ... never knew that AotH changed pet stats, /boggle.

I have a feeling that this will replace my ZG bat with the attack speed normalization (damn you Bliz!), but not going to get rid of the bat until I know for sure that the Ray can mana drain like it did before I tamed it.  I like the aggro machine that Screech makes the bat into too much ;o)

Here are pics of the lil guy at Loyalty Level 3, fully fed, with me wearing 5/8 DS and MM specced.  The first is without Aspect of the Hawk, the second is with it.

I trained one yesterday. First impression was cool because it drained my mana and used arcane explosion against me on my first training attempt. Had to freeze it to successfully train it on my second attempt.

Tried it out on a few local mobs and it doesnt hold aggro well. If I stayed back, counted to about 6 seconds after it's first hit, I could finish off the mob before it came inside minimum gun range or at least on my first melee hit.

I wont be using it in instances because I dont want it using any AoE to disrupt CC.

I got it mainly to try at PvP against clothies. A little less mana for the healing priests, with some nice AoE damage. I'll have to wait to see if I keep it long term.

If you are high enough level to tame this pet i figure you should already know that it doesnt keep hardly any of the abilties it might use against you.

    Arcane explosion, Gone.
    Mana drain, Gone.

the only abilties it has are the ones you might teach it now because it has no racial abilties like the wolf (furious howl) and the cat (prowl)

Wow. This thing has amazing health. In PvE, this thing can probably take so many hits its not even funny, making it amazing for tanking against any casters you might face, but it looks like its not good for PvP, as the Mana Drain is gone as of the taming. Seriously, if you don't know that pets don't keep skills like that by the time you get high enough to tame one of these, you might want to reroll if you don't think its too late. I learned that pets don't keep those skills at about level 13. Wow.

... caster means they have the stats of a caster. High intellect and spirit... which isn't great, seeing as the only reason you want a pet is tanking or DPS (Strength and Stamina). Not that they do nothing but spellcast... anyway, you can get noncaster nether rays.

A good way to check is that if the mob has a mana bar, then it's caster. Mouse over it just to be sure, because these nether rays start with empty mana, then drain yours to fill it. If it has a mana bar that fills up, mouse over where the mana bar would be, and it will either be blank if it's non caster, 0/(some number), or (some number)/(some number). If it's the last one, then it's obvious that it's caster, because it'll have the blue bar.

          Hopefully this helped. ^_^

Be advised, the Fen Ray from Underbog is NOT a caster pet.  It is apparently the only one that isn't a caster pet.  At lvl 70, it is an awesome tank.  I have mine trained with stamina 9 and armor 11(which I need to switch) and it has 11k armor, and 6.6k health unbuffed.  with a fort and blood pact it is over 10k health.  it's int and spirit are under 100.  This particular brand of ray is definitely not a caster pet and I highly recommend it as a tanking pet.

These are some of the coolest looking pets in the game, but sadly...also some of the worst. They are "cater" types so lose alot over other pets. They also come with almost no skills. For a BM spec hunter you are much better off going with something else. Sucks because they look so cool. As far as the ones in underbog, I haven't tried so will have to, but still..no skills to tank with. Personally I use a carrion bird, Trechela (I think was the name) the unique two headed one in the bone waste. Bite keeps up some damage while screech keeps agro against all but the best prot warriors. At 66-68 I was using this pet to MT mana tombs (160 shadow resist, 204 buffed will outlast any warrior when it comes to spells) becuase the warriors couldn't keep up.

Please fix this nice pet blizz, either take away the caster stats or give em the mana drain!

To all the people above who dont know what caster stats are on a pet, there is only one type of netherray that does not have caster stats and thats the lvl 64 elites in underbog.  Non caster stat nether ways make amazing tank pets, they can easily tank 4 mobs at once with their amazing hp.  Not to mention how unique it is for a hunter not to have a cat, boar, or ravager.

This post is just general pet information! It regards the stable system. If you take out a pet while you are mounted and replace it with another one, (put one in, and take one out while mounted) can end up doubling your pet and deleting the one that wasn't out! I lost my main pet because of this!

Since Nether Rays have the highest health out of all the pet groups and the lowest armor, this pet will make the best tank for an enemy that does heavy magic damage out of all the pets.
It will also gain the most health from spirit bond.

But as far as tanking an enemy that does high physical damage, it should be about average.

I iz gonna tame it are also not paying attention, the Nether Rays that are not in instances are all casters IE nferior Pets, If you are going to get a Nether Ray, get one either from Reg. UB or normal or Heroic SP (depending on lvl) This is a great soloeing pet adn I also use it as a raiding pet, The extra health really helps in fights like Curator etc. being Marks its hard to keep my pet alive during those fights but not this guy, hes a tough little bugger. Nether Rays may not be right for most people, but some for some people they make great pets, so please Think before rushing out and taming one.
