i get a kick out of people saying the shoulders are too big.
what fine line did we cross? you realize that, practically speaking, aside from the white/green stuff you get early in the game, pretty much ALL shoulder gear (and most head) is outrageously oversized? and weapons...come on.
it's a game. stuff is supposed to look outrageous. a freaking walking, armored bull with opposable thumbs is cruising around with a pet croc and an axe the size of a tree, and someone thinks his shoulder pads are too big?
absurd stuff is hilarious. and orc & tauren models are the best for that.
you forgot that hes on a giant what ever a kodo is
Yeah them gnomes with one handed weapons 6 times their size. Wanna start complaining start there.

B. Lack the skills to properly use a pet
C. Allow idiot guilds to tell them how to play
When used properly pets can be the 6th/11th/25th/41rst man in the party. Who wouldn't want an extra person in the party.
BS is just sick. It pwns Marksmen. At lvl 66 my dps went up 21 points when I switched talent specs, plus I now have a pet who can solo same lvl mobs and temporarily tank elites in instances. I used to run 5 mans with my pet as the main tank....easy, if the party knows how to play.
If your in a guild that doesn't allow use of pets, leave. If you don't know how to properly use a pet, learn. If you're afraid of your pet, wait for bunnies to become tameable and reroll on a carebear server.
If you look down on this set because it heals your pet...reroll...on a different game.

I don't recall ever saying pets should tank. I just stated that my pet has "out tanked" warriors in some of the runs I've been in.
Doesn't take away the fact that healers still tend to forget about pets.
On my priest, I have gotten many a thanks from hunters and warlocks alike, because I didn't forget their best friend.
Everyone has a role in groups. Just so happens that healers forgetting about pets is one of the most often griped about things I see on hunter forums. And that's because it's an obvious issue. It's not that every hunter doesn't know how to play.
But I love this armor because this set because the pet is not forgotten. I'm spec'd BM, which means my whole strategy is geared around my pet. If I was MM, I probably wouldn't even bother having my pet out on a group run.
Problems with hunters without pets are the crits. If I crit without my pet, I don't care what tank is out there, most of the time I will draw agro after the crit. And then that means I'm usually dead. With my pet I can guarantee an Intimidation that will give me the opportunity to keep fighting.
But let that pet die, most BM hunters will be screwed.
Now, just to get this set so I don't have to worry about a healer as often. LOL

First of all, saying BM hunters easily outdamage MM hunters is spreading nonsense. I've been ahead 10% to 20% in dps when running with BM hunters. Sure, you'd complain about them being incorrectly specced or poorly skilled, but the same can be said about the MM hunters you've compared yourself with. With the appropriate talent choices -meaning do not skip things like Careful Aim and Master Marksman- an MM hunter does excellent dps.
Secondly, as an MM hunter, I can assure you I bring pets to group runs. With the right resistances and some attention from the healer, even MM pets can off-tank many mobs in the five mans for a while. Obviously, being substantially weaker than BM pets, mine will die quicker and more often, but that's mostly when nasty AoE abilities come into play. Blizzard admitted that these are a problem even for BM pets, hence the new Avoidance skill being introduced in 2.10, and Cleaves becoming 180 degree effects (so dps pets should simply be positioned behind the target). I expect BM pets will be powerful enough to even tank most bosses in five mans after that patch, which is certainly something MM hunters shouldn't try.
The deciding difference between BM and MM hunters, is that BM hunters can bring a tough pet for groups that want an off-tank and utility, or a dps pet for groups that want dps and utility. On the other hand, MM hunters are less versatile, as they really fit into the dps and utility part only.
At the end of the day, the point I'm trying to make, is that hunters should always bring their pets. Even if you're 'just' a marksman hunter, that pet is still part of your class, so you need to work with it. Have it save a healer by peeling a mob off, have it add dps to the main target, etc.
^^ Just check out what he said - its all true :)

Your three so-called binding arguments for not using a pet in raids are flaw. It's not that hard to put a pet on passive (case 1), dismiss it so it doesn't detour when you jump of a ledge (case 2) or tell it to stop attacking before you feign death so you properly exit combat (case 3).
Your arguments are built on the assumption that the person controlling the hunter is an utter nitwit. Maybe in your "many years of experience as playing as a hunter" you haven't gotten a clue yet, but some of us actually know how to play our class and make good use of our pets.
Your arguement is valid but misplaced:
Too many hunters gimp themselves because they:
A. Are afraid of their pet
B. Lack the skills to properly use a pet
C. Allow idiot guilds to tell them how to play
Too many Hunters never learn to play using their pet as an extension of themselves. Marksmanship Hunters (the worst spec to level with) use them to hold aggro and never learn to use them for kiting. If a Guild says no pets in Raids then you prove you can control yours. Pre BC I was using my pet in MC (that stands for Molten Core to you Post BC players). Pagnaros was at 15% life and Tanks all Died, I had to send my pet in to grab aggro while we killed him the rest of the way. I thought my pet died as I died at the same time as Rags... I got rezzed pet was at 20% health. Yes I am a Beast Master Hunter.
Problem is BC admitance was poorly handled. They should have made enterance into BC an attunement. Like Must have Hydraxian Waterlord Reputation of Honored or Above. I see too many 70's with ZERO Raid Knowledge, MC was the Basics, Onyxia was the intermediate and BWL required Advanced Raid Knowledge.
I'd like to start off with a story. Today, I was in a group in Blade Ridge Mountains, taking on some elite ogres, when I noticed something. The tank wasn't losing aggro. Frankly, this is somewhat of a rare ability so I decided to give him a test. I chucked on Growl and went on all out nukeage, on a couple of mobs. 3 Crits in a row. Near 4k dmg in a sec, and the dude didnt lose aggro. Growl on and he didnt lose aggro. I've never seen anything like it. But it goes to show whats possible with a damn good tank.
Also, pets are important for MM hunters too you know. My Boar counts for near 20% of my damage while solo farming and about 18% of my damage in the average 5-10 man. And I'm sitting here with 1600 AP and 20% crit Just wanted to get that in, 'cause all I'm seeing are BM hunters talking 'bout how useful their pets are :) And as for hunters that, for one reason or another, dont use thier pets in an instance, your crippling yourself. Get that pet out asap.
As for the set. As far as I'm concerned, the set bonuses for this are so completely superior to Demon Stalker that it makes me wonder what the hell Blizz were on when they made the Demon Stalker. Perhaps I'm just lucky (or perhaps 'cause I don't have to use FD more than about 5 times in an average instance), but my FD gets resisted about once every other run of an instance, if that. And -27 mana cost for Multi? Pshh. Gimme 5 mana/5 secs any day.

ok...on BM and pets and armor...first off, a panther or tiger out of zg in BM will have 9800 armor by 67. im sick of seeing everyone pull the measuring tape out, of all things, to measure.
Hunters, if used correctly by a guild, and used correctly as a class, will need little to no pet heals and should NEVER pull aggro off a MT in an endgame scenario. The only reason i could think of is to unstack a debuff to allow a heal, but even then youre probably already wiped, and the pet would die more often than not anyway.
as far as gear goes, this set WILL help in PVE endgame, as applied to a pet, because as all hunter pullers know, your pet is your best pull at long range with no space for the raid to advance.
finally, how did this become about what is a bane to a warrior, warriors vs pets, and all that. from what i can tell, ppl were simply commenting on how thier pet kicks ass. i know mine does. if he pulls aggro OFF of a tank, its not the hunters fault all the time, and its not the tanks fault all the time. its a game, and as such, event the best tank can slip, and vice versa.
i agree totally i'm a BM hunter and as such if im not careful i can still pull agro off a tank 5 lvls higher than me which is only useful when i need to do so. If played right a BM pet should do nothing more than tank for you while soloing and with growl off play a DPS spot in the group unless the tank needs to heal or he has gone down.

All this talk about Beastmastery hunters being bad made me think. The other day when i playd my shaman on the magtheridon server i started talking to a hunter from Nihilum, who were Beastmastery. As i have hunter myself, i asked if Beastmastery was good dmg, and he said it was quiet nice.
Next day when i logged on my hunter on Zenedar, i asked in the guild if they would belive that Beastmastery was good dmg in raids, and they were all like "hell no, but you can spec Beastmastery and make us laught."
A few days later i spoke to one of my friends on Zenedar who are a hunter too, and i found out that he was Beastmastery too(i think it's important to say here, that he is in one of the best guilds on Zenedar atm.) Personaly i would never spec Beastmastery, as i like Silencing shot and Scatter shot too much. Either way, what im trying to say is. Yes, spec and gear matters, but what's really important is skills.
So stop saying a spec is bad, because maybe you don't like it(just like i think survival is crap)but other people might like it, and be really good at it. Skills is important - yeah i know i just said that.
P.S. Raids are not about the purples themselves. Raids are about having fun, doing something together and achieving respect. Purples gives respect. Myself i really enjoy raiding, and i don't mind wiping 20 times on a boss, as long as people do their best. If we wipe cuz people are watching TV, or eating sweets and shit like that, i might become a bit moody.
Anyway, i hope you understand what i'm trying to say. People are different in WoW - just like we're different outside WoW.
THIS SET ROCKS - I WANT IT :P (MM SPEC) (BM IS COOL TOO)
Secondly - everyone seems to be talking how pets arn't that good at tanking. Well here is the truth - I was in KARA the other day and the mage got agro from a sheep that was broken by the shammy(not on purpose) - i scattered shot the elite and set a trap (I HAVE FULL POINTS ON IMP TRAPS) and was resisted - i set my pet to stop attacking the main tanks target and go attack the elite attacking the mage - i turned on growl and bam - the pet had its agro (DAMN FAST). The mage was saved by my pet - the healer - healed my pet while it was tanking - so did i (NOW THAT IT IS A HoT) and my pet stayed alive long enough for the OFF tank to finish off the 2 elites he was on and took the agro off my pet(IE I TURNED GROWL OFF) and just as the healer was trying to heal it - it died - we all stayed alive(BAR MY PET) and no wipe.
This same scenario happened half a dozen times during that run and many other.
Now everytime i go there - the mage, priest and Raid leader- pats my cat and clothies tell it to bite anyone who comes close to them- lol - they love my pet and it is just another bonus that hunters have while playing their class.

other than that i would prefer the mage simply resheeping with hi `1.5 cast time as opposed to me fretting with micromaning my pet, diverting healer manna and time from more important places, and i would prefer to be free to unload DPS! ;)
keep in mind that the reason your pet peeld agro so well from the mage is because the mage had about .2 agro from his single spell.. ;) resheep FTW

How to CC with a BM hunter.
First learn to double trap. If you don't know what this is, then learn.
Second, have your pet ready to intervene where ever needed. Not just if your trap breaks, but also with shackles, sheep and saps. Your pet should always have dash, dive, charge or warp. The life you save may be your own, but most likely it will be the guy healing your main tank.
Dash/Intimidate almost always pulls aggro off any clothie getting pwnd. ( even most "I want to crit my butt off" mages who really don't know how to play their class.)
This set helps your best friend stay alive. Hunters are designed to have a pet. Regardless of spec if you don't use it you are more of a huntard than one who uses it badly.

Rift Stalkers are Related to Warp Stalkers..The wierd looking white hunter pets.
Lmao.. this is suppose to be a forum about the gear set, but since i found all the arguments about talent specs and pets so very amusing i had to give my two cents:
I am a MM hunter and I was in a UBRS raid group the other day when low and behold i was asked by two of the lvl 70s (I myself only being a 65 noob) to dismiss my pet:0 I dismissed myself and my pet from the raid! I live and die by my pet, he is as important to me as my bow. I am very much aware of how to use my pet, ie:turning growl/taunt off and on when appropriate to make sure not to pull aggro off tanks and what not. The only time my pet gets me into trouble is when the main tank sucks a$$, which really isnt my pet's fault. So to any of you hunters out there regardless of you spec, if you wanna try running instances without your pet, why dont you also try running them without your bow/crosbow/gun instead? Your a Hunter for pete's sake, the pet is part of your class, learn to use it, learn to love it! Or you could always reroll a warrior then whine when a hunter's pet pulls aggro off you. Lol
a rift is the the grand canyon but mini
So we're stalking chasms then? Sounds tough... Almost harder than a Gronn...
I am 13/45/3 hunter lvl 70. My pet is a turtle named "MeatShield" I took some bm for hp, armor and outdoor speed of my pet as well as the 2% damage of the focused fire. Took 3 in sv for range increased and the rest in marksman for dps and abilities.
My pet dont do much damage, but got 7000 hp, 13000 armor and keep aggro quite well. With 2 parts of my tier 5, i can heal my pet myself as long with mend pet, which is great for solo as well for instances, since it can really well tank a single mob while we are kiling another. I trap one and we are appy. I do have to admit my pet cant really tank magic users, since it dont have magic resistances, but for all melee types, it's great ( exept for bosses, of course )
Also, the shell shied ability makes him a really great tank ( half damage of any source ) for a limited time.
If there is only 1 big mob we are fighting, i let my growl on on, and if the tank lose aggro over my pet, i turn growl off till tank ge aggro back and i turn growl on, because i prefer have my pet taking damage than he healer if the tank die. ( in the extreme of cases )
I know my pet dont do much damage with auto attack and bite. but at least, i know he wont die easily.
also, you have to remember hunter is all about strategy, you can go way back, put a trap, put your pet on stay, come back, pet attack 2 mobs, and put it inactive, it will kite these 2 back to his spot, making one trapped and if your pet die, it'll give some time to the party to react while the mob is coming backk, a frost trap instead of the freezing trap in the middle of the way between original mob place and pet "stay place" would be kinda cool too, since they'll be slower to get to him and slower to get back, giving even more time for the party to react.
Hope my post helped you all.
Just want to say, as far as my experiences go, MM is the worst pure dps spec for pve, but I've seen several endgame hunters as MM and they do very well in hyjal/bt so I keep an open mind. I have raided SSC and TK as both surv and BM, and, while both have better dps than MM, in terms of my spec, BM far out shines surv. As for the set bonus, I prefer t5 as a whole, for both bonus's, to t6, although the mana from aov is nice and the 10% extra dam from steady is godly, 2p from t5 gives your pet a whole new level of survability in endgame, and 5% extra steady shot crit is like having your own feral druid with you, which means more crits, obviously, but also more kill commands which helps ur dps. Looking at an example of dps/2p bonus, heres a wws of me in ssc as Surv. (5/20/36) and only one piece of t5:
http://wowwebstats.com/hqzzta2wr3a3k
And heres one of me with exactly the same gear only 2p t5, and as BM (pretty much standard 41/20/0)
http://wowwebstats.com/xmqv6ewdnucl5
Obviously you cant take my overall position on damage charts into account as it was a different run with different people under slightly different circumstances, but, for one, the amount of healing I did with 2p t5 was amazing, nearly 900k over the entire run. Sure, a high % of that is over heal, but when its not costing any mana, whats wrong with that? secondly, as BM, look at the change in my dps.
Nothing in BM to give better dps? Well apart from a much stronger pet, there's ferocious inspiration that increases party DPS by 3% every time your pet crits; in end game your crit rate will be quite high if you have geared correctly, and your crit rate affects how often your pet crits, so the higher your crit rate, the higher FI procs. There's focused fire that increaes your overall damage by 2% while your pet is out. Then you have beastial wrath and the beast within, which is like an incredibly powerful 3rd trinket that increase both your and your pet's damage. Most importantly though for dps increase is serpents swiftness, which all BM hunters will have if they know how to spec. This increases ranged attack speed by 20%, so while they might not hit as hard as a MM's shots, they hit at a much faster rate, which is an incredible increase in damage. As mentioned imp. Hawk is very nice; add that to SS and your average attack speed is incredibly high.
As for survival, sure they have nice CC talents, but any surv. hunter in endgame will be specced for pure dps; if they have any points in traps it will most likely be only to use a point or two to advance to the next tier in the talent tree. Surv. does very nice dps in endgame with high ap, hit and crit.
And only Surv. hunters are good crowd control? Have you played a hunter? Any hunter that can play is good crowd control, traps are universal. Hit your target, trap it, if it resists, kite it, if your BM, set pet on it and intimidate while you can get range to continue kiting.
lets put this into perspective shall we.......
what looks more menacing:
Massive shoulder blades that look like they've got dragons made outta bolts of lightning
OR
Tiny round shoulders that fit comfortably and give you about as much protection as a rubber band would?
seriously people i havent seen a shoulder or head gear that isn't outragous cause otherwise it'd look like it's for level 12's! Hell I'll say it i don't know many items for level 70 that aren't massive and outragous. quit wining about how big they are when thats what makes them look better than anything else your gona where
Call me a tard if you will, but I think BM hunters should keep two pieces of this armour even when progressing into, say, Sunwell Plateau. Because that 15% healage could prove ohmagawdsouseful when you're fighting a high AoE boss or mob group. Just keep the two worst pieces on, for that uber effect.
yeah that sounds like a super idea :D
also... every hunter should carry two pieces of
beast lord set for the reduction of CD in traps
http://thottbot.com/?set=650
our main trapper (our SV hunter with trap points) uses this the beast lord set in SSC and TK and doesnt need a hand from any other hunter
how exactly would one stalk a rift? aren't they kinda unpridictable, and I think intangible?
