its actually really really good to have alot of mana per 5. u obviously didnt get much high end raiding done before TBC but theres a reason most of the later sets have mp5 on them. In fights in AQ and naxx having BoW + the mana regen from gear makes a huge difference to how long u can go before having to FD drink. Why dyu think blizzard added aspect of the viper too? they started to realise hunters need mana like they need air. And as far as the 5 second rule goes, again u obviously didnt do much high end boss fights. The aimed multi arcane etc rotation gives the best dps, but if ur sitting around waiting for mana to regen with spirit each time ur dps is gonna suck ass. a manaless hunter is only slightly more useful than a manaless mage and just as useless in pvp.

I am really kinda surprised by the new set...

    Demonstalker overall has:

+114 agility (works out to +2.5% crit roughly)
    +396 overall attackpower.(+450.9 C-Aim spec)
    +12 Hit Rate
    +16!!! Crit rate?  (takes 22 to = 1%)

    Thats kinda sad...a little over +3% crit...wow

    Dragonstalker overall has:

    +142 Agility  (2.67% crit)
+418 overall attackpower (+461 if you C-Aim spec)
    +20 Hit Rating
+70 Crit Rating (about 3% crit from this alone)

I am kinda scratching my head going... hey this isnt correct... Now i understand that T4 does not have bracers, boots or a belt but... How on Azeroth are we suposed to make a belt, bracers and boots get us near to +70 Crit rating. Id wager its not likely to happen anytime soon.

Keep in mind that Demonstalker has sockets.. woo... and does have Mana Per Five... (which appears to be good since they made hunters very twicthy)We dont hold time rotations like we used to where we could chill for a couple seconds and use spirit to get our mana back, so Mp5 is good now but... Does it really justify that much crit loss? I guess Demonstalker does have a larger mana pool for us to use too. Aspect of the viper might come into play with that int increase aswell...

Short term however I am very disapointed by the lack of crit on this set. The set bonuses aswell seem to let me down.

After long consideration of the intended purpose of this set... I am guessing its value is the mana consumption. It allows us to last longer i presume, but at a cost of crit.

I think the real question is how much do you value the crit chance over the 130 better attack power on the 5 v 5 piece comparison.

        The 5 dragonstalker pieces have:
        92 agility
        176 attack power ( 268 total )
        56 crit rating
        10 hit rating
        91 stamina

So is the ~2.5% crit worth the 10 dps difference due to attack power?  Is it worth 11 less stamina?  It'll depend on your goals and your play style I imagine.

I know hitting hard in group situations is key for a hunter but so is the Ability to solo stuff no other classes can.  I like to play pvp and solo very hard mobs to push survivability.  Pulling aggro off your pet and even off a warrior is pretty easy if you use your cooldowns correctly, you can even kite and offtank mobs if needed and you need STAMINA.

Where the hell is the stamina?  Each of these pieces should have 6-10 more stamina minimal excluding the sockets.  I know this isn't pvp gear but come on now.  Some of my tier 1 items have more stamina then this.

At level 60 I was in the top 5% of my guild as far as health only getting beat by Defense specced warriors.  Seing how one of our trees is Survivability you'd think Blizz would offer more health in the set because its the easiest way to survive.

Come on Blizzard playing the hunter is about surviving and we can't without stamina.

..... and as a side note the set bonuses are very weak indeed.

A generic setup (such that you get the bonuses as well) - would give:

    24 Crit Rating (A lil over 1%)
    12 Stam
    56 AP

    And the bonuses of:
    4 Agi
    3 Int
    8 AP

You still have 3 other Armor slots to fill as well (That’s HUGE!)

If you want more crit add more Yellow Gems, More Stam and Crit add Blues, More AP add reds you don’t have to get the socket bonuses if you don’t want them.

When you factor in the AP/Agi/CR Enchants, from Enchanters and Rep the fact you have other slots to fill in: Back, Neck, Rings, 3 more Armor slots, Trinkets, and what not and the Amount of AP you will have is just crazy. Yes your crit rate will not be what it was at 60 - so what - the fact is you have so much AP that when you do crit you hit like a nothing you can imagine.

gets me sad how blizzard has decided to make our crit rating pretty low, before the BC with full t2 and other epics i could easily reach 30% crit.

but this set everything a hunter need but %crit

this also has little agility wich sucks, that makes the Survival tree pretty useless, unless you decide to take some blues or greens with high amounts of agility.

before they nerfed "Aimed Shot" some months ago i could easily do 700-800 DPS. it sucks pretty much the class, we can only be on the top damage charts on a few fights, only when other classes have to stop dealing damage because they dont have FD.

even mages have a higher DPS on single target. they could only deal more dps than me on aoe pulls.

this set isnt so bad it allows you to bring in more shots while this is a more of MM set for attack power bonus and having less agil then gladiator for survival.

Since the availability of Season 1 Arena gear after patch 2.3 grants easy access to quality epics I thought a comparison between S1 and T4 would be relevant.

If you were geared in all S1 Gladiator gear and decided to go for the full T4 set instead these are the approximate stats you would gain/lose, not counting gems or socket bonuses:

      Armor: -82
      Crit Chance: -3.37%
      Stam: -104
      Int: +72
      Hit Chance: +15
      AP: +156
      mp5: +17
      Resilience: -107

These numbers can completely change based on the gems you choose to use but here are the sockets you have available and the socket bonuses:

      T4
      Meta: 1
      Yellow: 2
      Red: 2
      Blue: 2
      Bonuses: +4 Agi, +8 AP, +3 Int

      S1
      Meta: 1
      Yellow: 2
      Red: 4
      Blue: 0
Bonuses: +4 Crit Rating, +7 Resilience

I made this post because there is a lot of speculation regarding which is going to be a better set.  It seems that the T4 set is going to be better for raiding due to the increased AP and the hugely better mana pool and mana efficiency.  However, the amount of hit rate they give for this set is far from impressive so depending on your other gear and talent build you could potentially still be missing a lot.

It goes without saying, though, that the drastic reduction in crit would be sorely missed.  For raiding the S1 gear is definitely viable but you'll likely run oom on the longer boss fights and I don't know whether the extra crit will make up for the lack of AP.  You could put gems in your S1 gear that would make you more mana efficient, but if you're like me you'll probably just throw a +16 AP or +8 agi in there :P

I personally have the full S1 set with a bunch of +8 agi gems and I have about 28% crit unbuffed for now which isn't too bad but with approx 6300 mana unbuffed I have to keep plenty of mana pots on hand for instances/raids, and sometimes I have to resort to Aspect of the Viper over Aspect of the Hawk.

Hope this post helps you out and clears up some misconceptions.

I reckon each set has similar potency for their respective purposes, s1 owns up in bg, while t4 gives you more durability for long raids. I definitely would not try any further than kara/grull/mag without a full t4 set or equivalent. Need to to do more heroics to up the rest of my gear, but should be able to raid kara with quite easy with s1, and group members with kara gear.

There are only a few pvp items who are good for pve, like the shoulders and the helm of s1,2 or 3(the helm of s3 is better then the t4 helm), sometimes you can use the boots/bracer/waist to, but i only use the bracers. Hunters (or just anybody) who walk in full s1 dont do a lot of dmg at all, and completely emberrace there selves.

Its better to walk through shatt or what majer city, you can better walk in blue gear, then in full s1 gear, the s1 leggings are not even worth the honor points! This only counts for hunters who use full pvp gear for pve cause.
