This shield is fantastic on paper, but there are some problems.
The damage is great! It inflicts a 12 second poison that deals 12 damage, and that can stack up to 5 times.
The downside of it being a stackable dot is...it's rather uncontrollable. You wouldnt want to use it in any pulls that require CC.
No you can't, as the dmg from the poison will break the sheep, just like attacking or a bleed effect does.
Pallies should shield pull. In fact it's the best way.
Generally except in certain situations if anyone but the tank is pulling it's a good sign the tank doesn't know what he's doing or the CC doesn't or the CC doesn't trust the tank. It's always best for the tank to pull and CC to pull them off while inc.
pallys pulling with avengers shield is one of the most effective ways to save the clothies. Mage can sheep all he wants after the avengers shield hits, if CC breaks early because of some AOE or dumbass hitting it, it will go directly to the tank instead of the mage.

That's the silliest thing I've heard in a while.
I've tanked every 5-Man in the Outlands and I ALWAYS pull with Avenger's Shield. One of the biggest advantages of a prot pally is the ability to front load your threat and AS was designed to do just that.
The rogue doesn't need to use sap except in heroics and even then only if there are more than 3 and there's no other CC option. If there are more than three, have your shield hit the other three mobs (gasp)... All other CC should be done after the AS pull. If you use it this way, you don't have to "have it on standby to bail out our casters and healers in a jam" as you'll gain a huge lead in agro from the start and not risk losing it. Besides, it has a 30 sec CD, use it again if you have to later (I.E. when you break the CC'd mobs).
Besides, outside of heroics, its almost a waste of time to CC. Spam your Max consecrate and Max Holy shield. If you're mana starved, you didn't pull enough. Go get more mobs. Your bored to tears healer will thank you. You'll move faster, your group will thank you. Eventually the rogue will give up on sap when you're tanking and just sing your praises.
If you have the mage pull with a sheep, you'll have a dead mage.
Save the mages! (I have a lvl 70 mage, and I NEVER sheep-pull, it's just stupid stupid stupid)
nobody but the tank should pull, period. apart from the fact that a mage ends up as mashed potato when he has bad luck pulling a group, the tank loses aggro. precious time is wasted thus, because the tank first has to run around and get the aggro back, before the full group can go spank the mobs.
That's got a 30 yard range. Any CC that's going off at that point should be able to go off before the mobs are in melee range, and even if they are, the pally still has to block.
12 dmg every 3 sec for 12 sec. Thats 4 or 5 tics of 12 dmg. 48-60 dmg, and it can stack up to 5 times you say? Well thats just awesome! :)
someone on my realm told me that i was a fucking noob for wasting my money on this shield, but i reminded him it didnt cost me anything except glowcaps..

its great but if i had to pay gold for it, i wudnt bother
makes for a great holy/prot paly shield when grinding. The extra dmg from the proc is really nice when combined with a shield spike.
Not to mention BoSanct, Holy Shield, and Ret Aura.
It's really great for a prot pally, got the shield yesterday on my 63 and I just love it. This combined with retri aura and holy shield = Nice grinding!
at best with the poison stacked 5 times, it does 60 dmg every 3 seconds
I used the Shield for my Prot Pally.
All it cost is a few glow caps and it's well worth it until you find something better that suits your needs.

I used a 70 rogue alt to farm tons of Sporeggar rep items so my prot pally could get this as soon as he turned 62. So I got a lot of bog lord tendrils and mature spore sacs to get me to friendly. Then I did some stealth runs through Underbog for sanguine hibiscus (its really easy, hes not even stealth specced and get gets about 15 per run through, which doesnt take long per run). Unfortunetly I found out that you cant turn in sanguine hibiscus for rep till you are 63, since the turn in NPC has the grey ! above his head.
Anyway, I just thought it was a little odd that the shield is level 62, but the only things you can do to get the 6000 rep needed to go from friendly to honored at 62 are...
1) Kill bog lords for 15 rep per kill, so you would need to kill a total of 400.
2) Do the fertile spores repeatable quest, in which you turn in 10 spores for 750, but they only have about a 1/3 drop rate, so you would need to kill around 240 greater spore bats.
3) Do the naga killing repeatable quest, in which you kill 24 naga for 750 rep, so you would need to kill 192.
So unless you consider going through the above grinds worthwhile, ignore the item description that says "Requires Level 62", its really 63.
Sigh, guess I gotta wait one more level to get my "best prot pally AOE grinding shield in the game" shield. I've even already got the mats for a felsteel shield spike.
Well you are right about the lvl 63 thingy. But you make it sound impossible to get the Shield at lvl 62?! :). Which it is not.. I grinded the naga in about 3-4 hours with breaks in between.. Just got this beauty and Im lvl 62 :P
Remember that the repeatable quest items aren't BoP, so you can simply pick 'em up in the AH and save yourself the time. Of course, they might cost more than you're willing to spend on the shield... But if you look at the time you'd otherwise spend grinding for the items yourself, it's probably worth your while.
You can't DE anything that is vendor bought.

Wow! Really? I guess it's just a glitch then when my combat log reads "Razorfen Beast Trainer (ranged mob) performs shoot. You block." and "Razorfen Beast Trainer is afflicted by your spore cloud." Damn, do people even think before they post on here anymore?
This just in! You can block ranged attacks! You learned you could do that at what, level 15 or 20 latest?

I got this shield as soon as I hit 62 (I did the rep quests at 61, and had an AoE group of 4 70s + me slaughtering bog lords for 1.5 hours). I'm a prot pally, and me love it long time!
My favorite thing about it is rogues.... lol rogues... they start beating on me from no where, I tank them to like 30-40% hp after I lose like 5-15%, then they try to sprint with justice judged on them and I just pound them as they run, then they vanish and 1-2 seconds later it breaks due to the poison proc on the shield... muwahahaha

Lol am lvl 70 and I still use this awesome shield even when solo'ing Stockades, Deadmines and Scarlet Monastery (I do it for fun :D)

Unless you get lucky in drops, I do not think you will find a better shield until you do Ogrilla rep grind for a Ogri'la Aegis.

Using this at the moment with my Prot warrior (66), goes nicely with a shield spike and the Shield Block skill.

this is an incredible shield ignore the thing up top with all the rep things just go to the cave south of umbrafen village and kill every marsh in sight no only that the sporregar help u kill them took about 45 mins
Also the shield from manatombs is pretty nice it dropped for me tonight but im working on getting this shield for grinding
