like it says, you can get fel iron ore, and knothide leather scraps, and apparentally some netherweave cloth. they range from 1 item to 3 items (i.e., fel iron ore x2, or knothide leather scraps x1, etc.) what i noticed though, is that if you have the crate, you open it, but DO NOT loot the contents, you can log back in and get different things. for example, twice have i obtained this crate.

    The First Time:
opened it up, did not loot, it contained knothide leather scraps x3.
i logged out and went onto an alt real fast, logged back into the original charecter with the crate, reopened it, and out came fel iron ore x3.

    Second Time:
got the crate, opened (did not loot) had fel iron ore x1. logged out, back in, opened crate, has fel iron ore x2. logged out, then back in again (just to see what would happen) got fel iron ore x2 again, so i just looted.

hope this is useful in some way :P

From my experience, all openable items behave this way, and the contents can change when you zone as well.

For instance, a box or bottle caught in Ratchet will have content change when sailing to Booty Bay.

This probably works for instances as well.

Yes, I have noticed this as well.  I used to fish in BB floating wreckage, and I would zone and go from runecloth bolts to mageweave almost everytime.  I was so pissed (after losing a RARE pattern) that I reported it, the GM's response was "that is not possible".  So yea, for those of you who have something good in there, I would reccommend looting asap.

After 2.3 comes out, this crate will have a chance to drop:

    Weather-Beaten Journal
    Binds when picked up
    Requires Fishing (100)
Use: Teaches you the fine art of fish finding.

This teaches you the ability to "track" fishing pools, and it works just like the other tracking abilities (puts yellow dots on your minimap).

I received my Weather-Beaten Journal from the very first crate I opened. Numberous people report having gotten thier journal from opening less than 5 crates. These have a pretty ncie drop rating :)

I got my journal after fishing about 4 or 5 floating debris fields in Zangramarsh near 54/34.  If you like to fish this is a must have. My only complaint is that you cannot track 2 things at once. I am a herber so I can find fish or find herbs but not both at once.

Well, I fished up a bunch of Curious Crates on my main (who'd already learned fish tracking) and tossed them in the mail to my banker, on the off chance that I might find another journal IF someone besides my main opened the crate.

The good news is, I did find one. I left it safely in its crate, because my banker only has a fishing skill of 1. I asked in Trade if anyone wanted it, got a response, and a trade followed. Curiously (ha) the Curious Crate appeared empty to my client, and she told me so. I had no issues returning her money, and she traded the Crate back to me. It seems she didn't have any fishing skill whatsoever (that's the impression I got). I checked the crate once it was back on me, and the Journal remained safely in place. I tossed it to another alt of mine, again with fishing skill (a mere 4), and that character could see the Journal as well.

I think this item is much like the BoP recipes found throughout the Outlands. If you don't have the skill, you can't see the prize. That means you CAN buy this from another player, so long as it remains in the Crate that holds it. And, if you trade it to someone else and they claim they didn't get a Journal out of it, you should demand your Crate back, in exchange for their money. The Crate looks empty but remains in their inventory, and there's no good reason (as of my posting this) that they shouldn't be able to return it.

I know the highest drop rates show to be in Nagrand (Skysong Late) and Skettis, but I went to Zangarmarsh and got my Weather-Beaten Journal in less than an hour.

Simply flew around looking for any schools I could find. (More chance of goodies dropping out of schools, floating debris, etc.)

Mine came out of a Heavy Supply Crate.

I got mine in a Mithril Bound Trunk in STV.  It was in the third trunk I opened, and that one I fished out of an Oily Blackmouth School.

If you're a lower level, there's no need to kill yourself getting to Outland for this.

I got a new item: Broken Engine Parts from a curios crate. It said 'This strange engine part has the word 'capissen' engraved on it.'  The item name was gray and thotbott lists the item but with no info.  I sold it to the vendor for 10g and haven't seen one since (caught it in zangarmarsh, north side of serpent lake).

Does anyone know if this is for a current quest, or a quest that has not been implemented yet?

The Capissen 38 engine part is a reference to the movie "Serenity." If I remember right, the item also said it belongs to K. Lee Smallfry. From the movie...

Kaylee Frye: "And don't ride in anything with a Capissen 38 engine, they fall right out of the sky."

You vendored it for 10g?? Isn't that enough??  It's grey, it does nothing..

I've never seen the item he posted, but some vendored items do sell for quite a bit. You can fish a "vendor fish" that will get you 6g. I got mine right outside Stonebreaker.
