  The place to turn in the Spirit shards is Allerian Stronghold in Terokkar forest- Spirit Sage Zran in the southwest tower. Hes not in the tower but in front of it wearing a robe and dark pointed rimmed hat.

There are 5 towers. Once a faction gains control of all 5, they get the buff for 6 hours, and towers can't be captured. After the 6 hours passes, the towers reset to neutral.

  Actually, the poster above you is correct: the bosses in Mana Tombs drop one spirit shard each. You're thinking of the other instances--the bosses in Crypts, Halls, and Shadow Labyrinth drop two each.

Resilience gear is somewhat hard to come by and is extremely valuable in pvp. Some of this stuff has resilience on it so its not a bad investment for a pvper to reduce crits and crit damage. I wouldnt run Auchindoun instances with the fixed goal of obtaining shards but you'll be getting them anyway running shadow labs for your dungeon 3 set, so why not spring for something.

At the very least you can pick up a gem or 2 for that meta slot.

You've all seen spam like this "need rogue/druid for sethekk halls stealth run"

well, if you're a rogue or druid, go do stealth runs. involved parties get a shot at assassination shoulders, a kickin dps ring, awesome healing capes, and of course, spirit shards.

stealth runs = 1 to 2 (maybe even 3?) spirit shards every 15 minutes!! that is, of course if your faction has controls the bone wastes.

I can see why they made the rewards more PvP orientated - it's linked to a PvP event.
Not every quest/event is going to have rewards to suit all classes - if they're rubbish, just don't loot or destroy them. Once you get 76 shards you can probably get all you want anyway and then they'd be useless again.
If the rewards in the instances are better for you - good for u! Means you don't have to collect the things and probably would get ur drop by the time u've collected the stuff anyway. Seen most drops in the dungeons and I've had 62 shards so far. Got the drops I want from the 4 dungeons as a feral druid.
Must suck if you're horde on my server - there's only usually 1-2 times a day the horde get the towers from what I've seen.
As for the rest of dungeon loot that will drop regardless of tower possession thus easier to farm.

  but also, it's WAY easier to get the required combo of colored gems on your other gear for these meta gems to take effect, as compared to say a skyfire or earthstorm diamond.
  
  and since you will likely change out this or that piece of gear, its lame that the really costly AH gems are likely suddenly going to be no longer functioning if you get a new piece of loot to wear.
  
  in shorter terms, WORTH IT! especially over AH gems.

You can never go wrong with a nice absolute blanket statment. Warriors are not the best tanks all the time. Druids, pallys, and warriors all have their own strengths and weaknesses. To say "warriors are the best tanks" is kind of egotistical and narrow sighted. For instance, i would like to see how well a warrior can tank the 2nd boss of heroic Steamvaults versus a pally. Or how well a warrior can hold aggro from two warlocks using seed or corruption on 5 or 6 mob pulls in shattered halls. So just try next time before you belittle other classes to think a little bit on how the classes are different, but not nessessarily worse.

  Some of the best tanks I have run with were feral druids. Heck, last night I ran Botanica with a pally who did a fine job tanking. Skills and gear are way more important for someone to be a good tank than their class is. (As a priest, I very much notice how the tank is doing, ya know?) Take notice, ego-centric warriors who think the mere fact of your class choice makes you king of all instances!

    As a resto druid, my least favorite tanks are warriors. The ones I have run with always concentrate on stam instead of def. So they have huge health pools, but can't take a hit. They drop so fast, even when there is a back-up heals we wipe. I prefer healing for pallys and the occasional shaman.

If no one loots the boss until after you rez, and then continue to wait until you have the buff again before anyone clicks on the boss, then you should be able to get shards. However its not working. As of the latest patch, it is a known issue. If you die during boss fight, you will not get shards no matter what. GM won't give you the shards you are owed, and if you don't like, they tell you to post it on suggestions or bugs and ask for a fix. Regardless, you will not get your shards.

You do NOT have to be alive when the boss is killed. However, you DO have to be alive when the boss is looted!

Why? When you're dead, you don't have the PvP buff which is the requirement for looting the shards. Once you rez, you automatically regain the buff. When the boss is looted, WoW checks to see if each individual player has the buff. If your faction has the towers, but you're dead, you don't have the buff, and WoW says "no spirit shards for you!" Even after you're rezzed, WoW already decided that you get no shards.

Everyone can loot Shards. It's like if you have a quest for Big Ugly's Eye to hand to someone, everyone on the quest can loot it from the boss. So everyone in the group can get the shard if they bother to loot the corpse.

Give healers some love Blizz! If I wanted pvp junk I wouldn't waste my time running instances for it!

Wow.. i just threw a whole bunch out because i thought they were useless. Pity. Some great gear you can get from these tho!!

So Spirit Shards are pretty much useless for healing specced classes? I can't seem to find a use for them as a Holy Paladin. I farm using consecration so I don't need Ret gear.

not gear for tank neither and also there aren't tanking or healing gems in thrallmar/honor hold

so if turned in at Allerian Stronghold, does that mean they are no good for the Horde??

This is right. If you are Horde, dont go to the other coords.

You can't vendor these items unfortunately, so if you want to use your spirit shards just for the sake of using them with hope of getting a little cash back no such luck :(

Damnit, i had about 20 of these, and didn;t know they were worth anything, so i destroyed them
