I tried to open it with max lockpicking and Dark Leather gloves. Still red. According to what Captain Sanders says:
One white shirt fit fer a Pirate king to be wearin'!
One red sash that ye can put on yer head or yer britches...
...one enormous bag! Big enough to fit eight whole apples!
Sounds like it's just a cute history of the Captain Sanders quest chain in Westfall, where you actually get this stuff.
Funny things to look for in Old Southshore
Zixil the merchant in Hillsbrad is building the machine that walks next to him as he wanders around.
Nat pagle standing next to Hal McAllister, the fish merchant in Hillsbrad. If you stay long enough, Nat Pagle tells his dream of how he thought Tarren Mill was taken over by undead and was an enemy of southsore, and Hal just laughs at him.
Captain Sanders talking about his treasure chest ( Which you find through a Westfall quest) to his good friend from STV Captain Edward Hanes
Captain Morgraine talking Tirion Fordring, standing next to Isillien and Abbendis. Next to Mograine is Fairbanks and Arcanist Doan, from SM. After awhile Mograine pulls out his chest and reveals the gem used in the Ashbringer. If you listen long enough the chef, Chef Jessen, comes out and screams at them to be quiet.
Thomas Yance, the travelling salesman, Sells all the starting level 1 gear and the Riding crop pattern.
Top floor of the Inn you see Stalvan Mistmantle, from duskwood, sleeping.
In the room next to him is Taelan as a boy with his big blue hammer from the quest "In Dreams" from WP
Next door to that room is Phin Odelic, a quest giver in Southshore. Not sure on the Lore here.
Aged Dalaran Wizard that roams around, sells +12 Int to shield
To the right of the town hall entrance are two citizens that make fun of Arthur as they say what a fine king he will make one day and how Uther is a great hero.
Inside the town hall is the mayor of Southshore, Henry Maleb. Also there is Nathanos Marris, Bilger the Straight-laced, and Raleigh the true. All of which are later quest givers, with Raleigh the true giving the quest for killing the SM bosses.
Outside you see Sally Whitemane,Renault Mograine and Little Jimmy Vishash. They end up fighting a captured critter and Mograine pretends it killed him and he pretends to die, then Sally pretends to rez him and then they kill the critter, making fun on the SM Cath battle.
Patrolling the road is Kel'Thuzad, walking with Helcular.
Farmer Kent is here too, Making fun of Superman.
Also another parody, Caretakers Smithers wanders around in a tiny farm patch.
In the far back of Old Southshore is a ring of kids standing next to each other named Victor, Alex, Hugh, Phil, and Harvey. Not sure what these are a reference to, probably a movie or something.
Also, there is Bartolo Ginsetti proclaiming how his cloaks will be famous one day. In southshore you do a quest to get a Yeti Cloak from him.
Thats about all the neat little things I found at Old Southshore.
"In the far back of Old Southshore is a ring of kids standing next to each other named Victor, Alex, Hugh, Phil, and Harvey. Not sure what these are a reference to, probably a movie or something. "
Off the top of my head, these sound like authors. Victor Hugo, Alex Dumas, but not sure of the others.
I also found Young Blanchy (from westfall) In the stables outside TaurenMill
Alex, Phil, and Harvey are characters from the Adult Swim show Harvey Birdman. Victor may be too but I can't remember and I'm not sure at all about Hugh.

dont forget Herod the Bully :D
Hal McAllister and Nat Page.... continued! :D
Nat: "I can't even believe this one... You know those two loud-mouthed ruffians, Foror and Tigule? Well in this dream, they somehow end up inventing something called ice-cream and flavoring it with strawberries... Well, long story short, they end up striking it rich! And if that wasn't crazy enough, they decide to quit the ice-cream business and become adventurers... they travel all over the place and finally disappear into some portal. I woke up in a cold sweat after that one."
And another... I found this one funny. "That one [dream] where thousands of people are all watching us from up in the sky... We're like their puppets - we dance and cry and fight and say silly things for their amusement. Sometimes, even when I'm awake, I think they're watching us. Maybe they're watching us right now..."
And another... "In this dream, I was fishin' master of the world. I moved to some place called Kalimdor... and people from all over the world come to me to pay homage... and learn to fish. I'm like some kind of fishing god..."

Been there, saved Thrall, then headed to the Southshore Inn.
The two pirates are indeed there, completely pissed. After a while (5min?) they go outside near the water, towards two little rowboats. The second rowboat has a little (locked) chest on (which shows the cog wheels icon).
The two pirates remain friendly the whole timeand cannot be pickpocketed (invalid target)
The chest cannot be lockpicked it seems
A large seaforium charge does not work either
we have tried a rather large number of emotes on the pirates but with no results.
Also bought some booze from the barman to get pissed to but that didnt help either.
Dunno. Maybe is it for heroic only?
or maybe there is an enchant to increase lockpicking?
Blizzard has put quite some effort in this, the dialogues are good fun, i can't imagine there isn't a way to open that chest.
Btw, while you're at the Inn, check the mobs around the fire.. You'll find the whole Scarlet Monastery Clan (Morgraine, Doan, Fairbanks...) and even little Herod *the bully* running outside.
Thanks Blizz, that was good fun.
Pretty fun and easy. It went pretty quick too. The hardest part is the second boss I think. We did it with
70 Hunter
67-68 Hunter (Me, lvled half way though)
70 Pally
70 Pally
66 Mage
The tough part is that the last two bosses will make you go through a few mobs before the boss itself, but you are given a bit of time to drink and eat up. It would be easier with a real tank and preist, but it was still easy for us.
Fun stuff! Can't wait to do Black Morass later!
The recipe is not BOP, I bought it for an alt and that worked fine. It's "limited" stock but not in the normal sense. If you have a couple of enchanters find him on the way in and on the way out, it has a respawn timer of about 5-10mins.
MC or kill Wardens first as they fear and heal, riflemen have scatter shot and the others are melee guys. Head down first to the encampment kill patrols then guards, I think there are wardens inside so careful..after you clear the internment area...last bomb set and boss comes down the stairs leading down. Head up to the keep and Guy your looking for is downstairs. He runs to the armory and then out the fonr door. Tough to keep up 4 mobs of 4...mages in the groups go down first unless there is a warden. Front door of keep = boss 2 along with a warden. They both heal. Then to Tarren Mill..you have 3 chances to do this. Like they said above..take those defilers down first and any shadow resist stuff you have should be used. Havent killed the last boss yet
Well, as we are in the past while doing this instance, races which have not been "discovered" yet get a disguise.
The only one that i have seen is night elves turning into humans.
Now how does this apply to Horde and draenei?
Do all Horde become Alliance races (the old tauren to gnome joke?) or do the "new" races become orcs? What about blood elves?
when the horde enters the instance then will be in disguise ... tauren become human and so do the rest of the horde .. I am not aware of the dreaneis og the bloodelf ... but I do think they just get a human ddisguise as well
All horde races become human. However, at some point during the instance, our troll reverted to troll after her deviate pirate disguise wore off, so we haven't quite figured out how that happened. The rest of us changed back into our human disguises. Might've been a bug but regardless everyone gets a human disguise.

I'm wanting to grind my way to exalted with Keepers of Time and I'm wondering whether it'd be faster to run this or BM? While BM is obviously a bit quicker to do, it only gives 1.3k rep per run or so. Also, the wipe factor is much lower running this than BM.
Anyone know about how much rep you get per run from Old Hillsbrad?
I've done the instance with and without 70's. Of course its easier to do with 70's.
Its just a matter of, getting through it smoothly or having a bumpy ride.
We had a lot of fun with this one, but the one thinkg that helped was that we took some pots with us not knowing what to expect. Our group has had some great success with shadow protection potion. we just go to ah and buy some of it. usually in there for a few gold.
Another Funny thing I believe you missed below me, is that Herod the Bully is randomly strolling around, Herod the Bully = Herod from SM
Any guidance how to complete Heroic Mode without wipes?
heroic by ihisbrodirty, Score 0.00
F***** Heroic mode is almost impossible. The pats call up to 3 more mobs and you need to be full epic and have 1600+k healing bonus, we got wiped 5 times. You can't fear, stun, sheep the reinforcements. Only frost nova them. The drops are good, especially the healing belt but unfortunately it's way too difficult. Don't think I'll do it again or at least with LFG party.
heroic mode is extremely hard, those pats are impossible to defeat, so you have to play around them. If you have a good rogue he can stealth threw and lay all the bombs and shortcut you to the first boss.
while escorting thrall the mages have about a 3k aoe, 4k instant blasts, the warden dispells CCs and heals for over 16k, and the melee units hit for an extremely hard amount.
The second boss has a nasty consecrate but other than that is easy. The last boss must be the easiest because the mobs he summons go down quick, and other than that its just a tank and spank.
we spent 3 hours in there but eventually got it down, the group was:
BM Hunter
resto druid
prot warrior
combat rogue
shadow priest
MC helps alot, if you have a shadow priest have him MC the mages for the mobs and aoe the shit out of everyone, while the other dps is beating on the warden.
I hope this helps for heroic, if you get threw it, congrats.
Do you have to have a flying mount to do this instance??
No.
Yeah, I am so excited for Old Stratholme. I really enjoy alliance cities and I can't wait to get into another one that isn't burning, taken over by opposing factions, or in ruin.
This was a challenge on heroic mode, but we were able to rather easily defeat the pats so I'll share the knowledge with you guys. We never finished because two people had to go, and we called it a night.
What happens is that the lookouts - the pats w/ the wolf pets - do a yell "Sound the alarm!", which will aggro all nearby mobs as well as summon two "reinforcements".
We had a priest on heals, lock/mage/shammy on DPS, and a pally (me) tanking.
FIRST - once you're in the pit, wait for the two pats to show up and stick a mark on them. I use triangle and circle, usually. Once they're both gone - pull the first four pull. Mage sheeped the rifleman, I tanked the warden and two sentries. I ran straight back to the wall furthest from where the pat shows up - and our mage sheeped the rifleman when it was within shooting distance of me tanking. I threw down consecration and that was that.
SECOND - Make sure that both pats are nowhere near each other. Pull the one that comes into the pit first - it will make this a much easier challenge. I stood on the small metal grate in the middle of the pit, with my entire party in there. I ran forward and pulled with avenger's shield, then ran back to the circle and consecrated. The two reinforcements went to attack our priest, but came after me instead once they hit the AOE. Once all the mobs were on me, I ran away from the group and tanked all of them. The lookout was immune to my stun (confirmed - always immune), and earlier one of the reinforcements was immune to sheep (I cannot confirm that they are or are not, we might've hit a bug early on). We dpsed the lookout so that he couldnt say call the alarm more than once in case it spawned more adds, we didnt want to find out. After he was down, we killed the dog and then the two reinforcements. The reinforcements were not immune to my hammer of justice, so i hit them w/ that whenever possible.
Hope this helps, and good luck! I'll be back with more info once I actually finish the instance =)

since no one else mentioned this... you enter it from Tanaris, travel SE from gadget....
This seems like an awesome instance, if your a big fan of Warcraft 3 and read the book involving thrall and his escape. If i recall... in the book there was something about a girl that helped thrall escape, tabetha or something, anyways she left a pendant in a tree so they could meet, any chance that this pendant is around?
When Thrall's running around like a maniac and groups are flying at you before Skarloc...
Me on a rogue: I set a macro to target the wardens, dropped into stealth in the combat drop between each mob, and stunlock/kicked them away from healing. Nobody else in group had to worry about them, zero trouble getting them quickly with the macro, and if you're not able to take them on your own yet just warn the healer and have the casters sling a spell over now and then.
so if im grinding rep...to what rank does OHB regular go to?
do mobs stop giving rep once you hit honored or revered?
Yes, level 66, you can enter durnholde keep or however you spell it
Figured I'd try going through to Silverpine Forest, screen goes dark and music fades out, Shame really.
i tried opening the door for thrall but it just stayed there then i reset then it said that i have to start al over again and Ect XD it gone weird
Of course it wasimpossible for you. You didn't have a healer...lol. Try it with a healer, and it'll be much much easier.
This instance is so much fun. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the other static mob pull instances. You have to stay on your toes, and really have to conserve your mana. This, and Black Morass. Two fo the most fun, and most challenging instances for their levels.
how do you get to caverns of time?where do you get quest?
i knoiw where it is,tanris...where do you get the quest?gagxeten?
