Latro's is a better (and much, much cheaper) offhand, blinkstrike or aldor sword is just as good a main hand. 2.2 Speed is shoddy.

I have waded through the absolute muck of posts of several websites that let users post and one thing is for certain: most people agree that the Felsteel Longblade is not the best weapon for Rogue, that it is just ok for Hunters and a good weapon for Warriors depending on spec.
I would like to discuss this weapon from a Combat Sword Rogue POV but offer something completely different: * The Many Reasons Why You Would* get these blades. * The Many Reasons Why You Would * 1.) PVP Battlegrounds is not for you. (Grand Marshall’s) 2.) PVP Arena is not for you. (Gladiator’s Slicer) 3.) You chose Scryers instead of Aldor. (Vindicator’s Brand) 4.) You do not want to farm Aldor rep for months. (Vindicator’s Brand) 5.) You are not a Blacksmith with a specialization in Swordsmithing. (Fireguard) 6.) You have not been extremely lucky with random world drops. (Blindstrike) 7.) Your server has a wildly over-priced Auction House. (Any Bind on Equip) 8.) You were not lucky enough to get Latro’s Shifting Sword on your pass, or several passes, through Black Morass. (Instance runs into BM are generally very rare on most servers.) 9.) You are not in a Raiding Guild and/or have not earned Kharazan or Serpentshrine Cavern yet. (Spiteblade) * The Many Important Reasons Why You Would * 1.) Good looks. As many have discussed before me, the Felsteel Longblade is arguably the best looking sword of its type both wielded and sheathed. Many people find the looks of their character to be an important factor when choosing gear. 2.) It is actually a highly ranked weapon for Rogues on many weapon comparison charts, despite the questionable mathematics or flawed damage meters that some people swear by. Level: 105 / 83.4 DPS / +26 AGI / +15 STA / Speed: 2.20. It is obvious that the sword is too fast for main hand and too slow for off hand though most people would agree that the raw DPS is, at least, on par or better than most of the rare swords in its class. 3.) The most important reason by far is: control. You are completely in control of the acquisition. A player will be able to farm the MATs for this sword very easily and/or purchase them from the Auction House. There are, usually, at least a few people happy to use their Nethers for a fee. * Recommendations * 1.) Enchantments. I strongly recommend the Mongoose enchant for this, and all other, swords for Combat Rogue. 2.) Use these swords for regular PVE and instances while working on getting one of the ultimate sets like: Blindstrike + Latro’s Shifting Sword. I hope this post dispels some of the random nonsense and inaccuracies. Thought I'd do the maths behind this to show why Felsteel Longblade is considered a bad choice for Rogues. I am not factoring in misses, parries, dodges etc as it's not needed to show the difference between weapons, unless a particular weapon has a +HIT stat on it, which neither of the swords in the example given do. Firstly, white damage: Duration = 1minute. Felsteel Longblade 27 hits, each doing an average of 185.36 damage (128 - 239 damage range + 26AP from the AGI) Total damage = 5004.64 Edge of the Cosmos 23 hits, each doing an average of 188.64 damage (130 - 243 damage range + 30AP) Total damage = 4338.79 So on base white damage, Felsteel Longblade is a lot better. Sinister Strikes I'll assume full points in Lethality, Aggression and Surprise Attacks. So the formula would be as follows: [([(Attack Power / 14) * Normalized Weapon Speed + Weapon Damage + 98] * 1.06) * 1.1] * 2.3 = Damage Normalized Weapon Speed = 2.4 as SS is an instant attack. I'll assume a base AP of 1500. If you only SS during the course of a fight and your timing is perfect, then you can expect to hit 18 SS's in one minute (20 energy regen per 2 secs, not including any talents/potions etc that will regen energy for you) So SS damage as follows: Felsteel Longblade 18 SS hits @ 1444.53 average damage per hit = 26001.54 Edge of the Cosmos 18 SS hits @ 1452.58 average damage per hit = 26146.44 Total damage for both swords: Felsteel Longblade 26001.54 + 5004.64 = 31006.18 Edge of the Cosmos 26146.44 + 4338.79 = 30485.23 So given perfect circumstances, Felsteel Longblade will just about out damage Edge of the Cosmos. But considering the cost/time involved in getting each one, Edge of the Cosmos is a clear favourite. I just got mine today and put mongoose on it. For me it made an incredible difference over the Ced's Carver I had. I went combat sword spec. Wow way more DPS than Sub. But that is another story.
I know some people complain about the SLIGHT increase in speed mongoose grants, but when you add slice-n-dice and blade furry + 10% haste to helmet it really adds up. Insane white damage and white damage does matter when in an instance and looking at over all DPS for extended fights. I finally out dps'ed a mage in Arc and BM. As for the sword. I like the looks of it, I like the damage and I like the stats. So for people like me who dont get to go on these epic raids it is perfect. I f you dont do arena, and you dont have heroic keys, again it if perfect. In fact the main value of this sword is that you can farm the mats and have one made even if you are not in a raiding guild. This sword is for that person with the unlucky rolls, trouble finding groups, can't stand arenas and no heroic keys. Love it or hate it, this is a weapon you are not ashamed to carry around and use in a group. And with mongoose you will do your fair share of DPS and wont look bad on the meters. I grined all the materal for the sword and mongoose in around 3 weeks or so. For some people it will take less, for some longer. Either way in far less time than farming rep from that annoying Consortium, you can have an epic sword that looks better than the consortium's dagger and hits harder. Yes it is worth the weeks of grinding and finding someone who is willing to admit they can make it then empty your wallet on the nethers. I have the Scryers dagger in the off hand and this combination works for me and after all what works for you is what is really important. Pre-kara, sword rogues should just earn Aldor rep and purchase a Vindicator's Blade and use it as their main-hand as far as I'm concerned (non-Aldor rogues should go buy Blinkstrike). Put Latro's Shifiting Sword in the off-hand, period.
After you get those swords, your first priority is to pu Mongoose Enchants on both of them! The look nice, but that's about it, if looks are all that matter, go buy (or make) two Longblades and just wear them in town. Don't hinder yourself by actually USING them combat.

Yeah it is pricey but the thing is, you don't have to roll for it and loose to a priest or or some other person who would not benefit from a weapon with agility lol.
For me as a pre-Kara rogue it does just fine. In fact I have 2 now. The speed is alright. It does apply poisons well and shiv is only 42 energy instead of the 40 energy of the retainers blade I had so no big deal there. I have Mongoose on one and +15 agility on the one in my off hand. Fact is; anyone who can afford it and want it is gonna make it so no sense getting emotional over who has it. At lvl 70 gold is so easy to come by that anyone who wants it can get the gold. Hardest part is finding a blacksmith willing to make it. Took me longer to get a blacksmith to do it than grinding the mats and gold. Still it is worth it. Update: Duel wielding these my Damage range is 355-467. I dropped 4 mobs, lvl 70, 69,69,70 who tried to gang bang me by using blade fury and slice n dice and lost less then 2k health. I can kill much faster than with the retainers blade in my off hand. So I would say (not being nasty at all) before you knock this sword, get one or two, actually equip them and use them. Some people will like it some wont. But I still think it is a good multi-class all purpose sword until you get a better one. My 2 cents. Iron Update: Wow I have never seen anything that makes people go all emo like this sword. So far I have had people swear at me, berate me, call me all kinds of names just for walking by with them. Everyone wants to tell me how bad they are even though not a single one of them have used it. In Kara with a good epic'ed group I came in 2nd place in DPS. In Mana Tombs, Sethekk Halls and Arcatraz I was 1st place. Up from 4th place before I got them. My DPS is up with the mages and warlocks so they cant be that bad. I think the problem may be our education system and the lack of focus on basic math. People look at the speed and think, (or fail to think) and try to base how well a weapon is on faulty figures. But honestly do any of us really know how blizzard figures DPS mathematics or how the under lying programs really work? I don't and I don't care. All I care about is my dps has improved greatly by having these swords. You have to figure in the type of poison used, the skills of the player and the bonuses they get from gear and enchants. Then factor in the + attack speed bonuses from items like my cape +26 haste rating, Helm +10 haste rating SnD 30% attack speed Set bonus from assassinations set 160 haste rating, and Blade flurry 20% attack speed. My sword speed is 1.25 when I all of these are active. This makes them faster than most daggers for a few seconds, applying a massive dose of poison and physical DPS. So I am bringing a lot of DPS through the number of hits I am landing and poisons applied. Then factor in the crits and tell me my swords suck as you lie dead at my feed. Yea my sword really suck...for you. Just ranting because I am tired of noobs who don't have a rogue and have never tried these swords swearing at me. If they don't work for you then that is ok. They are not for everyone. They are better for constant DPS in long boss fights and rogues who depend more on high sustainable white damage rather than occasional high crits. D Oh there is one last factor you have to take into consideration before whispering to me to tell me what an a$$@#%*!! I am for having them. This sword is a multi-purpose multi-class sword. Kinda like a standard infantry government issue. It is not uber great but not bad. Anyone who can swing a blade can use it.
That being said I think a fury warrior would benefit more from something like a kings defender. But if this is all a fury warrior has available he/she can still go into battle with confidence and will have a good showing on the DPS meters. As for rogues. Use poison, imp slice and dice and blade flurry along with some haste enchants on the head, gloves and pants if possible and you wont be afraid to fling yourselves recklessly into battle. So in short, it will work for either class equally well
Ok every talks about O these swords are garbage O they not worth it... i say cry me a river.... Before i started to lvl my rogue i was ina group on my pallie in arcs and i see this avg. geared rogue but she had these 2 with mongoose enchant and she killed shit i was like wow i would rather grind mats for this then run something over and over and and over again just to be outrolled by A emo druid (Leather gear Meaning)....
Another thing that prolly makes it easy for me that i can make this on my main char Who is a warrior So i dnt have to look for some one who can make....but Either oR If u need somethign to prep urself for kara Or ZA This wouldnt be a bad investment Just so u wont be so undergeared in there I have full assassin and These 2 swords with mongoose on my rogue and i kill shit in PvE So just think about it There is no telling how many times u will run kara for better personally i dnt want to spend the dkp On weapons i rather get better Gear (leather and trinkets and what not)........... wow this is long why do i do these things
I've spent the last half hour or so reading these posts...I know I'm gonna get flamed by people for saying this, but I DW these swords on my rogue...I have Latros Shifting sword with Mongoose on it and have tried both setups...While it might seem odd my overall DPS is about the same between the Latros Shifting Sword and my twin Felsteel Longblades...Over the course of quite a few Kara runs I've tried running 1 week with Latros, and the next week with Felsteel in the offhand and with no new gear from the week before, my damage output was close but DWing the Felsteel Longblades did more overall than with the Latros...The larger white damage hits made up for the extra energy gains and quicker speed...The Longblades might not be the best swords in the game, on that point I will agree, HOWEVER, if you are a rogue and planning to switch from a dagger spec to a Sword spec they are the easiest swords to get that not only look good, but do a fair amount of damage...
They get the job done quite well, 99% of the time I top the damage meters even over rogues that carry things like the Spiteblade in their MH...If you're not getting good DPS out of a pair of these weapons you really need to consider re-rolling a new class...No offence to anyone...They're not top of the line, but they aren't bottom of the barrel either...They're a fantastic balance of looks and capability... Some of the posters before this have it right, if you've never tried it you shouldn't knock it till you've actually used them...I don't put as much faith in the numbers game that people play when trying to "Prove" these swords don't work...Personally I think they're just trying to make themselves feel better about not taking the time to go farm the mats for them...Personally, with an epic flyer, I farmed all the mats (minus the Neithers of course) for BOTH swords in just over 3 days...That's the ore, and the Primal Mights for 2, count them 2 Felsteel Longblades...Sure you can take weeks to grind rep enough to get some that are marginally better, or spend twice as long (if you're a weaponsmith) to create some yourself that are better, however these things are easy, and work really well...And if you can't figure out how to swing them, you have no business being a rogue... That's my two cents...Take it or leave it...

I'm a survival hunter with two of these, each with 20 agility on them. 92 agility for both. Right now, with only access to rare gems, my guild just about has kara on farm, and I have 803 unbuffed agility. At the moment, there is NO EQUAL for raw agility than two of these with +20agi to each.
On my off time, I play lots of BG's, and have a hell of a time playing melee with these. 42.52% dodge chance, 10% parry, and a general "WTF!?" from teammates is a lot of fun. Armory check Moondrae, gear, spec, etc. Troll and flame to your heart's content, don't whine if I happen to post a reply, and to everyone, I'm having fun and enjoying my class, :) 'nuff said.

I've been trying for weeks to sell this sword and of course all I ever get in the trade are childish remarks. In the AH all I do is lose out on deposit money too. Frankly I don't care about making money on these any more since I got my epic flyer recently. If anyone on Frostmane wants one, I will make it for you for free as long as you bring me the mats of course (the mats on Frostmane total about 850 - 900 gold). I will continue making these for free simply because this sword looks awesome and I enjoy having my name attached to them ^__^.
I have made these for warriors,rogues and hunters. As said before they are not the best and definitely aren't the worst weapons in the game. To each his own, this is why we play =)
