I'm a lv 62 druid--it wasn't hard, but it wasn't cake either. But you do have to watch out for the mushrooms they throw. It does take it a few seconds to grow, so if you can hit it real quick like a totem you're fine. Also, immobalize the bog lords if you can, casters, they have an attack that makes you fly a couple feet and interrupts casts.
This was an interesting quest for my 63 warlock. Not only do some of the mobs throw you and dump this "constricting vine" on you, they had two other tricks that you might want to watch out for.
The first is the old "phantom add" trick; you're in the middle of a plain, with one mob and nothing else around for miles. You get close to killing the mob. Then another appears out of thin air, then another, then another and so on. Not an imposible situation for healers and locks (Drain Life = heal, sort of) but tough on those who need potions. These guys had more phantom friends than I remember from anywhere else. You could burn up a lot of potions. The second is that they have some kind of instant mega-blast; they never used it on me (that I noticed) but every now and then my felguard would go from 45% health to 0% in one hit. What was that all about? Where can I buy that "weapon?" I looked at the combat log and it looked like they "Threw a spore," but there didn't seem to be a corresponding damage indicator. Might be a glitch. Not insurmountable but something to watch for. More annoying than anything else. Really quick respawn rate too. Also, I killed about 60 because I was on the phone and sort of got into the rhythm of it (reasonable Sporregar rep) and in the whole time, they dropped nothing of any value. No greens, a few motes of life but nothing else but trash. Nothing but trash mobs. Ugly, too.
I read the first couple of comments and thought "wow an easy quest" Well not so much, these Bog Lords and the other mobs aren't difficult to kill but they throw mushrooms which grow and shoot spores at you. Not to mention that the mobs are close together so I found myself with 2 pretty much each time.
My pet died once and I had to feign death, then realized that the Bog Lord wasnt moving so I got up set a frost trap and got the hell out of there. Im sure its a quest Ill finish I'll just have to go about it in a different way.
Was easy for my lv 62 Elemental shaman.
Against the giants that uses the stackable disease DoT, just drop a Disease Cleansing Totem. Problem solved. If you're being ambushed by two or more, you better use Cure Disease or hightail it out of there. Against the giants that throws spores at you, just drop a Magma Totem. It should kill the spore before it fully grows into a mushroom and explodes. If it grows to the 3rd stage and you or your Magma Totem haven't killed it yet, quickly hightail out of there. It has a small AOE, so you should be fine. Just be sure not to bump into the other giants! The respawn rate is quick, so be on your toes!
This quest is not immediately as easy as some say. If you happen to get lucky and find a spot without patrols, or if someone else has been clearing the patrols, it'll look easy, but otherwise, not.
I normally have no issue with quests a level or two higher (frost mage, my best class) but this quest was a pain even at 63. Here's the deal, as much as I've been able to figure it out anyway: The regular fungal giants aren't too bad to take down. However, watch out for the bog lords and starving fungal giants. They're patrols and can put you in a situation where you have up to 4 mobs on you at once. The starving ones also spawn and despawn at different points on their patrol it seems, so they can pop up without warning. Just stick around the outskirts and get a feel for where they walk and you'll be alright.
I'm level 63, and in the middle of doing the quest.I do know better than to fight level 64 giants, but anyway, the prospect of leveling up keeps me going. Do be prepared, when they killed my level 63 hunter, my hunter ended up clear in Omberage, near the inn area. Over 1,100 yards away.
This quest is fun, I like quests like this, but the level 64 giants are kind of tough, even for my hunter. They throw mushroom spores on you. When my hunter kills them, she gets 12 exp for each one. Giants give you rep around there, as well, when you kill them.
This is one of the most annoying damn quests in the game. You can't walk more than 2 feet without agroing 3 giants and then they fall on top of the camoflaged items that you need to collect so that you can't target them.
This was no piece of cake a year ago. It's gotten worse. Some of the mobs (haven't been able to isolate it to a specific type yet but I think it's almost always the Giants, not the Bog Lords) have a kind of passive attack called "Unstable Cloud." The Combat Log didn't say whether this was from the mushoom or not, but I destroyed the mushrooms as soon as I saw them, so I think it is independent or apparently unrelated.
Seemed to me that the Unstable Cloud started when the Giant got to a certain level of health, like 15%. In any event, it roots you to the ground (I think the line is: "Movement Speed Reduced by 100%"), then starts off with 390 Nature Damage, then proceeds to tick 234 Nature Damage until you are dead. Although the "cloud" appears to be localized to the corpse (like the spore clouds from killing spore bats), you can't run away from it. You are simply rooted there until you die. Period. Not all giants have this trick, but each one that did, killed my 62 Warrior. I probably could have tried to outlast the damage with a potion, but that would be one potion per 2-3 kills and I wasn't sure how long the root effect lasted after death because in each case I died before it stopped. But wait, there's more! I have to laugh, just thinking about this. There are these groups of "migrating" Giants and Bog Lords that start out in the Spawning Glen and walk due West to Quagg Ridge, where they continue walking West to (who knows?) the ancient burial ground. So while you are whacking away at a Giant or a Lord, hoping this one doesn't have "Unstable Cloud," a group of new guys joins the party. At first I thought these guys were just instant respawns but I saw a whole group of them arrive when I was killing the guy on top of the ridge in the center. It would probably be a lot easier for a higher-level and I'm tempted to bring in my overgeared Hunter for a wholesale slaughter (just because...), but at 62, I'm just going to pass on this for awhile. No discounts from the Spirit Healer these days. My repair bill was 5G. The moral of the story is be careful and watch out for the new guys arriving in groups.
Wow, I'm really surprised at the comments here.
I'm not the type to brag at how easily I owned a quest. Frankly, when I first got this one and read thru the comments here, I decided to leave it until I was 64ish or so . . . I'm currently a lvl 62 balance druid [just barely - 5 bubbles into the level]. Tonight I was in the mood to ride around and aimlessly kill stuff. When one of the large fen-like creatures threw a mushroom add at me and it began to grow, I realized - "oh chit, this is that hard quest!" But I bashed the growing spore with one stroke [it was lvl 65 but still developing to attack level], then the big guy went down pretty darned easily. I was like "what the hell . . . ?" So I killed another one. Then another. Just for fun. Then I figured I should try to do this quest for real, and re-read the description in my quest log. The Lords are lvl 64, the others 62-3ish, and the mushies are 65 but take enough time to grow that you can bash them dead in one or two strokes/spells. "Maybe they weakened these guys in the recent patch . . ." I thought. True, at one point I got ganked up on by two lvl 64 "Lords" with my defenses down and I died a glorious death. That was the only one, however. Each kill took me down to about 1/2 health/mana & I had to heal after each, but this was entirely doable at my level and it didn't even rise to the "difficult" level. Tricky, yes. Difficult? Not so much. The hardest part of this one is spotting the quest objectives: small "nutrient" items that blend into the environment and are difficult to spot. They do sparkle slightly, but not enough to stand out in the grim landscape. I soon learned to use my eating/healing time to scan the area around me to spot the closest gather target - then targeted the surrounding mobs for kills before collecting it. BTW, I accidently approached this area from the east, and pretty much stuck to the eastern/northern areas when completing this one. I mention this because my experience seemed much easier than those who came in from the west - given the comments above. If you're feeling weak/unsure about your ability to handle these guys, there's nothing wrong with making some kills and collecting 2-3-4 items, then riding away and waiting for respawns before approaching again. One thing I should mention to finish this up: I'm a full balance druid who was using Moonkin and calling out the nature "tree" adds when needed. In other words, I used the special abilities we all have in difficult situations. The one thing Moonkin offers that perhaps caster classes lack is a +400 armour bonus, and I'm sure that helped defend my health status. I also made liberal use of dot spells up front in each battle. Not sure how this might translate to those of you playing other races/classes. We all have our special strike abilities, however. Use yours and perhaps you'll find this one as "doable" as I [surprisingly] did. Good luck!
Ok..I read all the I'm a LV 2 with no armor, blind, one arm, one limb and kicked the crap of of mobs 5 at a time. Truth is you get no easy ones here. You will fight for every one. Just be careful and try to draw one at a time and kill the toxic mushrooms that will pop and poison you so that even after killing the bog you can die. Patience prevails...good luck.

this quest may appear easy, but when it comes to killing the monkey things (lol) its kinda hard. i always kill it and end up with 1/2 health and that stupid mushroom kills me. i'm a hunter, and i can heal or anything. :P This post is faded because it has a negative score.
I too had a lot of trouble with quest in the beginning, but I must agree with an earlier poster that this quest is much easier if you approach the Ridge from the east than the southern entrance. You dont have to worry about the migrating bog lords this way.
I just finished this as a 64 mage - less admirable as the people who are a couple levels under me - but thought I could add some things.
First, it's very helpful what others have posted- kill those growing mushrooms FAST. Only one exploded on me, I used Ice Block to get rid of the effect, but I know not everyone can get rid of stuff like that. Second, I took a couple minutes to just observe the patterns that the pats take. They seemed to move very slowly around their path, but as I headed west closer to the turn-in point, I noticed that some pats would spawn together and then go to the spots where I had just killed mobs not too long before, and stand in their place. I'm not sure if this is just coincidence, but it may be done in a way that at a certain time, they will respawn and actually walk back to where they belong, from the western end. Regardless, definitely a place where you should take it easy and stop at each kill to wait and see if anything pops. Re: A Question of Gluttony [9702] by Aliok, Score -0.62
Please do be carefull on where you kill those guards.
It happened to me a lot that those giants fell down right on the mushroom i was trying to get. since the giants are, well, giant, it's hard to either see or pick the mushroom with one of their corpses on top. i suggest moving away from the mushroom a few yards when you almost got the guards down.
Idk why everyone is saying its hard i had no problem with this as a lvl 64 pally its a pain in the ass killing a bunch of these guys but theyre not to tough i could take on 6 at a time without to much problem
just watch the battle log when it says they threw a mushroom at you use an aoe attack or 2 and itll kill the mushroom
If you're running the game in Windowed mode, and find Zangarmarsh so dark you can barely see - like me - you may have to run your cursor along the ground to find them. Otherwise they will be practially invisible.
