look, there is a sword that drops which is pretty close to this in Gruuls lair.  If ur guild can down gruuls, then let a shadow priest or boomkin get this, if not, then fair game to you and more power to you for getting this.  Despite my name i do PvE a lot.

I know someone is thinking,"shadow priest at 70?  go holy"....A shadow priest who knows his toon can become very, very important in a raid / instance.  Look, in a normal instance, most fights, our vamperic embrace (affected shadow spell damage, not healing) will keep everyone minus the tank at full or close to it from minor and i can't tell you how many healers and other dps love us for vamperic touch (again, affected by spellpower).  So before you say "whats wrong with you for being shadow at 70", keep in mind, 2 GOOD shadow priests in the same party will keep eachother pretty good on mana, and will benefit others as well...(without improved, the healing meter in a 5 man instance rates me a little more than 1/2 the healers...so if a total of 1 million was healed, 333k of it was me, which can make a healer's job less stressful(that was based off of an SL instance i did a while back).

Mages + Locks = great DPS.  but where a lot of guilds fail at is selfishness.  You see, A lock will put out more damage if he uses his curse tahts a dot, rather than curse of shadow.  But if he uses curse of shadow, the mages and shadow priests deal more damage.  So while his score isn't as high as it could be, its outweighed 100x by the usefullness of the extra damage the other 2 classes get. (boomkin too, everyone leaves them out, but i love my furbies :D).  So if that shadow priest had this wep with a soulfrost enchant (any other enchant would be unworthy for this wep imo) he would gain a lot more spell power, which would make the curse of shadow even better, which would generally benefit the whole raid more due to vamperic embrace, touch, and other random damage.

What i'm saying is, if ur in a guild that can down gruuls, for the sake of ur guild's proficiency, let the shadow priest / boomkin have this before the mage / lock.  Not too many maces out there that compete with this, but there are a lot more spell dps swords than u think. when it comes to this wep:  SP / Boomkin > Mage / lock.  i hope u guys understand my thought process, but i'll restate this as not to offend some of you, if ur guild can't down gruuls, then GO AHEAD AND ROLL ON THIS  :)

Shadow priests are batteries, and to keep the party charged, we need to be geared  :)

sry, i hope u all know what i'm saying i just suck at putting my thoughts on paper (or screen)

This dagger is for anyone that casts damage spells in a raid.  If you, as a raid leader, bring a shadow priest, elemental shaman, or oomkin to your raid as a DAMAGE class and you ask them to do DAMAGE in your raid, then they should be able to roll on it.  Asking a person to do something but not allowing them to get gear for it is obscene.

Yes, I'm a warlock, and yes, I got one of these babies last night.  Would I have been upset if an elemental shaman, oomkin, or shadow priest beat me on the roll? Absolutely not.  All three of those class/spec combinations will buff my DPS significantly.

And to anyone saying that the Staff of Infinite Mysteries is better for warlocks needs to learn to play.  Sure, an affliction warlock who is heavily into PvP MAY prefer the staff over this blade simply because crit is near useless and stamina is nice.  However, for warlock raid DPS, this dagger plus a decent offhand makes sex.

Yes I'm ignorant. So ignorant my guild is currently working on Vashj attempts in SSC when you're prob still in karazahn fighting over loot in semi casual guild.

I think the point you're missing is that you simply aren't in the situation where you have options available to you so you take what you can get if you're lucky. When you wanna talk about serious end game progression and telling a shadow priest they can't take this (Our shadow priest usaully finishs anywhere from 2nd-4th in DPS in most fights) is crazy.

The more damage your shadow priest puts out, the more damage your caster DPS is gonna put out. When you learn how shadow priests work then please make another reply. A balence druid would never see this in our guild for the simple reason the spec is useless even with the upcoming changes. Hopefully the nerf isn't too bad for shadow priests and they still put up the great numbers they have been waiting to do for so long.

Another thing to note. Warlocks play a very high utility role in end game at this current point in time. So calling them a "pure" class is kind of ehh. Mages DPS could use a slight bump because at this point in time we really aren't putting out the numbers you would expect for a "pure" class.

And while locks do carry a high amount of utility in raids, so do mages.  I believe that Blizzard's intention has been to give the two classes the potential to do equal damage in different ways.  However, they've screwed up somewhere along the line, because most locks play like mages anyway.

Well, you shouldn´t think about damage of players. You just need to think about everything they give the raid. As a shadow priest you do not only give damage, you also give heal, mana to your group and the 5% more spelldmg, 15% more shadow damage on the mobs.

A mage for example in a raid, is not more worth than a shadow priest, even if he would do 10-20% more damage.

You should calculate everything a class brings to the raid. If you are even the only one class in a raid with a buff for everybody like GotW, you are extra more worth.

There are so many numbers to calculate. But even then, you asign items to specific classes because they are "obviously" more effective.

Some classes are even than "better" than other in the damage meters if they are on the place 5 in raids. Damage meters do not count the raidsupport, only the damage.

Granted if both of you have contributed equally to the guild then your guildie should pass (assuming it's in the best interests of your guild), but keep in mind that having the initiative to gear yourself up should not be punished.

            B) If your group/guild made it that far in kara, you should all be mature/informed enough about your class to know what you need for gear from the place (if your hybrid, you would've also been polite enough to let other casters know it was on your wish list)

            C) Shadow priests are casters on par with mage +lock. Maximizing damage for them is they're mission, as it increases they're utility to a group(Ie. increased party regen).

Shadow Priests bring -the- most useful utility out of any class in the game.
200 Mana/5 to everyone in the group is amazing.
Not to mention that at Kara level they'll be in top 3, and SSC-BT they'll be in top 6 on damage. (They -should- be).
It's not about old players, it's about TBC talents; Namely Vampiric Touch.
Boomkins can spout out damage comparable to a mage if they're well geared and have +3% crit aura; their falldown is itemization however. When this gets fixed, they will also be highly desirable.

At a 5 man level, SPriests are in their prime. I would suggest your playing with undergeared, or crit based shadow priests.

                  To all you sword-wielding casters:

                  Stop rolling against shadow priests.

                  /shrug...

what if i were to say all you mace wielding casters stop rolling against locks, mages...

How can you possibly say that mage/lock shouldn't need this item.  If you think we shouldn't need daggers, then neither should you, you have maces and we have swords get over it and L2 Play.

I would leave the guild ASAP. Smart guilds will want to recruit a good shadowpriest for kara, you won't have any problems.

Generally, I've found that people who think that certain weapons with general abilities like this should go only to certain classes  -- well, they are prejudiced fools whose raid won't progress past their prejudice.  Most of them don't get past Gruul or Lurker at best.  Smart, flexible raid leaders know that winning is better than wiping, and it takes whatever it takes in the hands of whoever can use it to make a raid win.  The elemental shammy / shadowpriest / moonkin / +2 other casters supergroup for ranged dps is so well documented only a real head-in-sand would deny it any more.  As a balance druid in Hyjal, I have been one of the unlucky ones who clears Kara/Gruul for fun on the side and still can't seem to see this drop or win a roll if it does.  Same with the Nightbane offhand.  That's ok, there's the Hammer of Judgement off wave/trash mobs in Hyjal that is even better for me, and others (whatever class) have gotten good use of the Mindblade instead.  You can always make due with the War Staff from AV until something better comes along.  (27k honor... easy to get)
As for hybrids in raids in general... well, like I said, winning is better than wiping, and ret pallies, balance druids, shadowpriests, and elemental/enhancement shammies do bring wipe reduction to the raid in addition to raw damage.  As balance, I can throw on my 2k healing set and fill in for a missing healer well enough if needed, too.  When the rogues, mages, and warlocks start offhealing or battle-rezzing to keep a boss fight going, maybe then I'll worry about my job. (And, yes, I do dps in the upper half of the charts even with b-rezzing and offhealing dragging down my dps time.)  Until then, T-6 here we come soon!  I love the pure dps class players I run with, but it takes a full mix of classes/specs to beat the really tough bosses you dream about.
Oh, and have you SEEN what moonkins and arcane mages can do with the near-infinite mana from Vampiric Touch (from the shadowpriest)?  Omg total carnage all night!

I just raided karazhan as a fire mage tonight and an alt came on on his fresh 70 spriest with full greens, got a couple drops on the way 2 prince since no one needed anything. When we got there, the damage necklace, nathrezim, and t4 priest/druid/war helm dropped. No one needed the necklace so he got it free, than he proceeded to outroll me on this and than proceeded to outroll the other priest and druid for the t4. I understand the dagger is good for all casters but i dont think an alt should be allowed to roll on this over a main, especially if you alrdy got something else off the same boss, what do ya all think?

i believe that you should have won the blade and the spriest win anything the rest of the raid didnt need cos, full greens, hes lucky to even see the inside of kara, but, as stated before, shadow priests arent completely useless as in needing everything, 4 spriests and a warrior downed loatheb from naxx (lvl60 40 man raid that only allows each player to cast tops of one heal per minute :O)

Rolling is random. You all allowed him to roll, he won. Next time ML and dont give the noob anything that the main's need.

But, rolling is random. You win, Gratz, you lose, come back next week. Simple.
