Yeah, same thing. I'm a lvl 40 rogue with 155 lockpicking and I can't even talk to this guy.

The lockpicking is actually at the Temple of Arkkoran on a large island in the northeast corner of the Bay of Storms (body of water east of Azshara land). The lockboxes are in the wings of the temple. When I was there I found only one, and it and the others I was told were there did not reappear even one or two hours later. I think this lockpicking practice spot is not working properly because in other locations you can go back a few minutes later and the lockbox has regenerated itself.
This was great - lockboxes by each tent, under and on top of the wooden stairs where they are working on the ship, and in the captain's room at the north end of the first ship, one level below the top deck. There are also a couple just west of the stockade in the little vales there. They regenerated in about 5-10 minutes, so you could make a circuit and come back and redo earlier ones as they were appearing. Contents were not much but you are doing this to increase your lockpicking skill. Gained 20 levels in about half an hour. There weren't any in the buildings or around the buildings other than the wooden stairs where they work on the ship, at least that I could find.

Go to redridge mountains. There are practice lockboxes in the building at alther's mill. I went with lockpick 1 when i was level 19 and in about 10 mins i got it to 95 (max for my level). Just stand by the middle one and rotate between the middle 3, they respawn in about 5 seconds so you dont even have to move your char!

Go to Redridge mountains. At alter's mill, there is about 6 boxes that you can unpick over and over again to build up your skill. It will max out at about 100. Before you do that, you try to speak to a dwarf who is standing on a post on the pier on lake everstill, although that part might be part of a quest. After you have maxed out your skill at the lock boxes at Alter's mill, go to the lake. On the eastern side of the lake there are sunken lockboxes to unpick. Try to get an elixer of underwater breathing, becuase it will take about 20 minutes to get your skill up to 150, which is when the boxes turn green and you won't get any more skill points for unlocking them. Anyone lower than lvl 18 be careful of the orcs and murlocs around these areas.
For the more higher level rogues who got theirselves a nice underwater breathing potion; go to the SoS and swim around in the Pool Of Tears, lots of orange lockboxes (I started at 180 there, did my other picking mainly at the mill in Redridge and Zoram Strand in Ashenvale.. Stormtalon mountains also has chests spread across the deforested zone, the Windshear Crag if I remember the name correctly.
Be advised though; Pool of tears is surrounded by 42+ elites in the south, and I've also seen Somnia the level ?? dragon on a small island there (I'm lev.46 now) Have fun picking!!
Also, ask your Rogue Trainer where to go to improve lockpicking, he/she will always point you in the direction which is good for your current level, so I have experienced.. :)
The Rogue Trainer will advise you of where you can go to up your picking talents if you ask him.
Start in redridge on the boxes at the sawmill. Next stop is Durnholde Keep east of Southshore. The dry moat with buildings is full of boxes (inside and out). Next you can go to underwater off the coast of Desolace ... just offshore of the tower Next, there are a few boxes in the keep located just inside Badlands and there are boxes in the mines down in the Cauldron of Searing Gorge. I will post when I get to where they don't level me anymore. I am a level 48 rogue and have maxed at 240. Lockpicking by Siamcat, Score 0.00 Locpicking........ by Sanactwo, Score 0.00

The info above for the level of locks that can be picked looks very helpful! Ty.
Only Rogues can pick locks warrior... so go out and make your Rogue today! =0) I got my LP skill, went to Lakeshire and talked to the rogue on the dock for a quest to get my Cert of thievery. Then i went to alther's mill SE along the shore (follow the road, baddies around) Got my skill maxed out to 90 as a lvl 18 rogue. Happy Hunting!
Thanks for everyone's help so far, but my question is this... I am a level 21 rogue and my lock picking skill is maxed out at 105/105. Who do I go and see to level up passed 105. I've been to SI:7 as well as Lenny"Fingers"McCoy, but I can't find anyone to help me improve to the next level. I've learned all the places to unlock boxes...now I just need someone to allow me to improve. Thanks for your help!
the coast of desolace is what i went to for 170-230 easy lockpicking
was pretty easy to find the bunch of them and just went back and forth. i recommend that u find a way to breath underwater though, gets a bit hard going up and down things that work for that: noggenfogger elixir -> makes you into a skeleton which gives you 10 minutes of underwater breathing, gives you slow fall, or makes you tiny. Getting an underwater breathing potion from an alchemist though, much easier, or a lock buff hehe
The absolute best place to level when starting out is in Redridge. Even though the sawmill is technically an Alliance area, Horde can still use the boxes to train, and they reappear INSTANTLY! I went from 1 to over 100 in about 15 minutes. THEN you can go right over to the lake and start opening up the harder ones there. If you are horde this means coming close to the town gaurds, so you might want to get the ones in Stonetalon by the big mining/logging operation. The mobs are the same (approx 18) in both of those areas, and I think there are slightly more chests available in Stonetalon. Once you are done in either of these areas you can start opening them in the Wetlands. If you are Horde I'm not sure where you go once you hit about 150, but you can do the wetlands as well. I'm 183 now so I'm heading over to the SoS locale now...

Here's a tutorial about how I trained my lockpicking skill:
Skill 0-125, go to Redridge and train in the mill to the north east of Lakeshire. No mobs will interupt with your work. Skill 125-150, get some waterbreathing potions, and swim in the sea in in Redrigde, opening the boxes there. (I'm not 100% sure it's possible to get all the way up to 150 this way, but I belive so). Beware of the level 25 elite Lashers even if they are to easy to be called elites. Skill 150-190, Go to Desolace, open boxes on the bottom of the ocean, north-west of Sar'theris. The easier boxes are on ground waters around the shores/cliffs, while there are harder ones on deeper water. Kinda tricky to find and level 38 mobs are swimming around this place and you might have to kill a few. It's possible to gain more skills than 190 here, but I found it easier to train in Badlands so I didn't. Skill 190-270, Go visit Angor Fortress in Badlands. There's lots of level 39 mobs, and a level 42 elite elemental you will have to kill, while I trained here I think I killed him about 10-20 times, which was rather simple on level 26. Skill 270-300, Go to the south eastern corner of Eastern Plaguelands, to a place called Tyr's Hand. This place swarms of level 55-60 elite mobs, so you shouldn't go here alone unless you've got a epicset. The boxes are very few and has above 2 hours of spawntime. Also remember to pickpocket all the mobs for heavy junkboxes, they improve your skill just as good as the lockboxes. Another alternative for skill 270-300 is going to BRD, there's like 7-10 doors you can pickpocket around there. BRD is far easier than Tar's Hand, and you can complete a few nice quests while your there too, the full MC-Pre quest, and a few arts of Onyxia pre-quest, for example. Keep in mind that you should save the heavy junkboxes and turn them in to Ravenholt. 5 boxes equals 50 reputation. 160-260 took about 2-3 hours to complete, becouse the boxes in Angor Fortress had to respawn, after that it gets far worse. Good luck people. Written by Roxy on Lightning's blade.
The Ogres in The Badlands (past the vulture nest) will supply sturdy lockboxes. Just pickpocket and you will receive one lockbox every 7-8 ogres. I found this a much easier/quicker way to go from 175-215 - grinding them all the way rather than swimming around the friggin continent (desolace, swamp of sorrows).
From 130-150 the best way to go is Windshear Crag outside Sunrock retreat (Horde locale but contested territory). (Go into the mine) You're first hundred (ie 0-100) if you are Horde should be the ship outside Ratchet. I found Durnhold to be a poor place to skill up because the chests on the perimeter are too high and the interior too low. Lastly, until your skill is maxed out for your level PICKPOCKET EVERYONE! This is the single best way to stay up on the lock picking curve. Whoever says that Rogues are easy never tried to level up picking locks! Sheesh Blizzard screwed us on this one.
You know Lenny "Fingers" McCoy is, generally speaking, another one of Blizzard's little copy-infrigment dodging characters?
In this instance, Lenny here is Blizz's version of a one Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy
Stealth up to enemy. Use distract. Use pickpocket. Kill enemy. Hopefully, they will drop junkboxes 5% of the time when you pickpocket. If you are grinding on mobs near your level, you will get junkboxes that are near your lockpicking level (orange or yellow). Each level, you only need to open 5-10 of them. And you will be picking up hopefully a lot more than 5-10.
Im wend 2 desolace and the coords given above are right...my skill was 160 when i started and at 225 boxes where still green 2 me...it took me an hour since i got 1 hour underwaterbreathing...didnt want 2
spend another elixer for green boxes so i now turn 2 angor fortress and checc how its like there... K lvl raise was 10 till 235...then items begun 2 get grey 4 me... gonna have a look in Swamps of Sorrow. Add Comment
