NEW! Wrath of the Lich King! (October 3)   NEW! Project Lore Episode 10.5

Q:My profile is out of date. How do I update it?
A:There are two ways:

1) Get someone that runs Cosmos to turn on the target profile feature and target you.  The next time they upload data, your profile will be updated.

2) Get Cosmos, turn on the profile option, exit normally, and run Cosmos.exe to upload your own profile data.  This is the best method, as your profile will be updated every time you play, and you don't have to rely on others to target you.

Note that once you update your own profile once, nobody can overwrite it using the target profile system.  This ensures you have complete control over what your profile shows.
Q:My guild has a website. How can we use Thottbot profile data on our site?
A:Add a line like this to the page you'd like a profile on, and you'll have a complete Thottbot profile, including item tooltips:

<SCRIPT language="JavaScript1.2" src="http://www.thottbot.com/?eprofile=Thott.Cenarius" type="text/javascript"></SCRIPT>

Where "Thott.Cenarius" is the <charactername>.<server> for your character.  Example.

It doesn't get any easier than that.
Q:How did my profile get here? I don't run Cosmos!
A:Cosmos users have an option to "Enable Target Profile".  With this enabled, they can target any nearby player and collect all public information, i.e. name, race, class, level and worn equipment.
Q:I don't like my information made public. How do I remove my profile?
A:If a profile is updated by the player, and not through the target profile system, it will never be overwritten by a target profile.

Because of this, the easiest way to keep your equipment off this site is to upload a blank profile once, then turn off the feature.

This is mostly an issue on the PvP server, where people fear that their enemies are using this site to gather information about their equipment.  Of course, people that do this are actually quite easy to kill, since they're standing around in game while they surf the net.  Thus the next time you kill someone that just stands there, be sure to say "Thanks Thottbot!" afterwards.

Due to the way the system works, there is an additional opportunity here for misdirection and general sneakiness, but I won't detail how to do it.  Some things are best left unwritten.

You can also mail me (Thott) in game from the character you want removed, and I will remove it for you, but this only works on the Beta server.
