To lvl up your picklock, all you do is pickpocket humanoids (computer), which will drop cash, junk items, potions, food and lockboxes.

You can increase your lock picking skill at the pirate ship (go inside below deck) located near Ratchet (65,45). They may have patched it but currently the practice chests are greyed out with a pick lock skill of 105 (as of 1/13/05).

There's a chance of skilling up. It took me FOREVER to get up to 175 so I could open sturdy junkboxes. They were just piling up in my vault. Then it took me forever to steal enough of those so I could open Reinforced steel lockboxes at 225. It's a pain, but doable. You just have to be patient and steal from everything. FYI, pickpocketing Horde NPCs raises your PVP flag, and they don't have much anyway :(

Yes, the chest respawns in about 10 secs. However, Klaven respawns about ever 3-5 min. So you need to make sure you can kill him, or else he'll kill you while you are LPing.

Went onto first ship south of Ratchet by the camps and found only 4 chests on the first level but was able to get to 95 with them. On the next level down only found the chest Jewel of the South Sea (or something like that). It let me "open" it 5 times and got up to 100. After that nothing.
No other chests found and no parrot next to any chest. Be sure to buy the thieves tools if you don't already have some. Can't pick locks without those. And if you ever see some water breathing pot for sale pick it up - it comes in handy for those underwater footlocker picking sessions. I've been swimming around lake Everstill getting my skills up...and occasionally being eaten by a thresher.

dunno if this was mentioned before but in stromgarde there is a tower with some boxes/chests in it i was wondering if i can pick lock those chest's

There are "Waterlogged Footlockers" spread out all along the bottom of Lake Everstill (Redridge). I found them when my current lockpicking skill was 90 and they were orange, at 100 they turned yellow, still yellow at 110. So you might want to check them out :)

I went to Angor with a skill of 150 and was able to open battered at around 175 i could open the dented i raised skill to 204 max for lvl 41 off of both types and made a nice amount of xp off of mobs while i was there

usually you can pick each of the SM doors (Cathedral and Armory) once about every 20 minutes. You have to be logged in for this 20 minutes, so it gets to be annoying.
the trick to getting fast skill from SM doors: Lots of junkboxes - 2 junkboxes for every skill point you need. I'm level 41, using Worn Junkbox. they're grey now (skill 205) and were grey when I tested this. Step 1: pick the Armory, then Cathedral doors as usual. They go orange at 175, and yellow at 200. Step 2: after picking the cathedral door, pick a junkbox. now pick the Armory door. Note that you probably won't get a skill up here - I never have. Step 3: pick another junkbox. now pick the Cathedral door. you should get a skill increase. Step 4: repeat steps 2&3 until you are max LP or out of junkboxes. As far as I can tell, you must pick the armory door AND the junkboxes in that sequence to successfully reset the timer on the Cathedral door. you can't just pick the Cathedral or Armory with a junkbox in between, and you can't skip either junkbox pick. that's why you need 2 junkboxes for every skill up. My testing didn't show a more efficient sequence, so if you find something better post it here.

Desolace is the place to do it. Get some Elixir of water breathing stuff first. There are water logged footlockers from (34,16) to (37,21) underneath the water. There are levels 32 through 37 Nagas to deal with. They are all over the place. At 160 pick lock the footlockers were orange to me. by the time i hit 170ish they were yellow. Also at (37,14) there is a footlocker guarded by 37 Nagas. Was red at 160 and orange at 178. Good luck guys.
In just a few hours in the last 2 evenings, I've made 10 gold just from pick pocketing and box picking in the Murloc Camps just outside of Menethil Harbor and selling what i get in the AH. I'm lvl 33 NE rogue. I pickpocket eeeevvvveerrryyyything in the area. The lower level murlocs are dropping lesser moonstone and iridescent pearl which sells nicely in the AH so dont skip them. Murlocs also are dropping the boxes to practice pick but i'm not gaining any xp from them (at 119 no xp...). I came into the camp as a 119 and left at a 165. What you'll find in each box differs from low copper to low silver to a few trinkets but it adds up really quick. Dont forget, people will pay good $$$ for Tangy Clam Meat and Slimy Murloc Scales in the AH, dont sell it at the vendor. AND if you do herbalism, there's plenty of briarthorn and Liferoot in the area too! So what if it's boring...cha-ching! (...saving for my mount...)
