What are valid targets for P-Pocket? So far, it seems only unfriendly NPC's -- if that is true, what am I missing in the benefit for this -- just kill 'em instead?

From what I have seen any humaniod is a valid pickpocket target. Trolls for example. You can try to pickpocket anything but if it is invalid target you wil get a message "Has no pockets"

  Picking an NPC's pocket is a great skill, especially when used on named NPC's, I just hit level 18 with my rogue and have already picked about 4 gold just in money as well as all kinds of items from alchemy recipes (potion of swiftness) to junk boxes and various other sellable items.

y not do p-pocket you get more $$ and never know whats in those creeps pockets. and after you p-pocket just do backstab or something under stealth because p-pocket doesnt break stealth so if your in stealth and rdy for kill it pick the pockects or your lazy

And that means more loot. So sneak up, ppocket, then go for the backstab.

You can pickpocket locked boxes from enemies to get your lock picking skill up.

shitty way to raise lockpicking, there's like one box per 15 guys

pickpocketing really seems like a waste of time, even at level 35 now, you can only pickpocket around 1 silver, and if you get lucky and get a box, it has only around 1 silver in it too :/ why bother

Actually, pickpocketing can be VERY profitable. I made a gold in an hour of pickpocketing and killing the level 23-24 furbolgs in Ashenvale, north of Astranaar. I got a box off most of them.

The slimes in ashenvale are also valid targets for pickpocket. Strange how a pile of goo has pockets, but whatever works. =)

i actually had a lot of success pickpocketing.
i went through that entire sunken camp place in hillsbrad and got a box off of about every other guy. anyone know if its level related? like picking a really low level guy your more likely to get stuff? like fishing?

wtf , i am troll mage, and i was picked 6G by another undead rogue????

any1 could explain ?

  first of all you can only pick pockets of humanoids and undead, and some of the mobs that dont fall into any normal classes maybe like oozes.
  
  to pickpocket first go buy the skill from the trainer, you get it at 4 so you can practice within a few minutes. now once you have the skill in your skillbook go into stealth and add it to your stealth actions bar. very many actions need stealth and this is where to put them, you put garrote or pickpocket on your regular bar and youre just wasting space.
  
  now for the sneaking, the rear arc of mobs has virtually no stealth detection, you go in front and get closer than a few yards and they will se you at low lvls.
  
  once you are walkin behind them in stealth its as simple as pushing the button and getting your loot, theres no reason to not do it, 2 seconds for a bit of extra cash and maybe a lockbox at 20+ isnt bad use of time. along with cash you can find gems potions food.

  what you are probaly doing is right clicking on the target and what you need to do is left click on them god you didn't know that when you right click on an enimy you auto attack it. god why did no one else tell thease fools this

    Hmm… After reading that last reply, I have notice a couple things; a)punctuation is not your strong point, b)your quite down with the big G. (not that it is a bad thing, just redundant.) Perhaps (yes) they should have figured this out sooner, but mistakes happen.
    All of this aside, I must say I’m quite excited about this skill. I have always played magic users, and found that it is quite expensive. Perhaps this way I can set a little more coin away for an epic mount. *They look so cool *
    If anyone has perfected a pvp build for an agressive rogue I'd be most interested.

I am a level 13 nightelf rogue (and a noob) when/how can i learn to pick?

u should have been able to get it from your trainer at lv 4

actauly im 174 for lock picking and heavy lock boxes are still orange for me. besides just being able to get 1-5 silver from pickign u gt food items potions and lock boxes....so if u need any of them its a good skill...plus if ure low on money its a good source of income.

Pockets u find on things like zombies or humanoids because they have/had clothes

U don't find pockets on animals cuz they dont wear clothes.

If im wrong sue me cuz i haven't pocketed everything in the game.

The purpose is to get more money and inprove your skill in lock pick

ya know you can pick npcs pockts...would it be possible to(say if you are an allience rouge) sneak into the origrimar AH and pick the auctioneers pockets? it would seem like a profitable thing to do O_O meh...just an idea

is ther a way to increase the range of your picking

I p-pocketed a scarlet crusaders(female mage) pockets and got a hanky, i like to smell it.

I'm having trouble pick pocketing. My character always seems to attack instead. Is there something I'm doing wrong

I cant seem to figure out how to pickpocket. Every time i select the arget i attack them and come unstealthed. SOMEONE PLEASE RESPOND

If your attacking instead of pickpocketing, theres a few things you might try. First of all, make sure youre hitting the right button, thats a given. Secondly, If the mob sees through your invis, or resists the pickpocket, youre about to get in a fight, maybe thats your problem. Otherwise, I dunno.

Lately I've been pick'n the centars in desolace. They are neutral to you, and you can't pick them, unless you go into your 'reptutation' tab and select "At War" that will give you the option to attack them, though, you don't really have to .. but it also allows you to pickpocket them, and have no chance of them turning around and attacking you. I've gotton quite a bit of loot off of them. and a ton of worn junkboxes. It's a nice little break from killing, (which I've been doing too much of lately) it gives me a chance to make some money while not haveing to do any fighting.

Can other alliance pick pocket each other little nooblets? Ive seen alliance people get pick pocketed but i have never figured it out.But i sit on the crapper thinking about every day if rogues can take money from fellow alliance.I like smurfs.

Pickpocket and loot, takes no time rack up cash, nice ability

Tips:

Monsters will always have an easier time spotting you if you sneak up to them at or below your target's level.
Try using the tab key to highlight a target instead of clicking on it. You'll find that you won't end up accidently right clicking and attacking.
If you are having trouble getting behind a target, try using the Rogue ability "distract" before moving in for a pickpocket. This will force your victim to face you for several seconds and works very well on roaming monsters that keep changing directions.
