Ok for one thing there are only two types of druids in the Warcraft universe....Druids of the Claw and Druids of the Talon. In WoW they only have it set up for you to play as Druids of the Claw. Take some time to play Warcraft III, then maybe you'll understand.

The DPS on cat form is about 2/3 of a rogue.  The next patch though should put it at about 3/4 of a rogue.  This is okay because druids make up for it by being able to heal and go into bear which has higher armor than most of the other classes under lvl 40.  They can also res and heal groups and have the biggest buffs in the game.  Cat form is still kinda bugged while we wait for the dps upgrade from the next patch, but if you're looking for a class that can solo forever with almost no downtime and also works well in groups in a number of rolls choose a druid.  If you just want to do lots of damage and be frail and a stupid rogue like EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD, then that's an option too.

Ok, cat form has been improved for those over L40 in the latest patch. I have a L51 Druid, and I get +102 Attack Power, instead of the original +40. At L50 it used to be +100, so I guess it will continue increasing all the way to L60.

Also, a really cool new finishing move was added to the cat form. It deals a nice heavy blow according to how many combo points you've accumulated so far. Very cool move.

P.S. Talk about rogues and that stuff on a different forum.

I found this form better than bear form on my lvl 28 druid. You buy this spell from Bearwalker in the tree, Darnassus. It uses energy, like a rouge. You can prowl with this, and there's also a spell at a higher lvl for a 50% speed increase in cat form, for 15 seconds. In instances and critical situations, I found that the energy came quicker than rage for the bear. Also, wasn't so bulky. I also liked that you didn't need a long, time-consuming quest for one shapeshift.

        But hey, it's your choice.

Blizzard gives every class "cool" aspects and unique quests- some get racial passives that could be spells in themselves (Tauren's war stomp, Gnome trap escape). The druid gets shapeshift, such as the bear and cat. This special talent applies to the class' history with nature. Same for warlock minions- applying to their shadowy ancestors. This balances the druid out with all of the classes. To suggest a new shapeshift would be impossible- the cycle of balance would be broken.

Getting your bear form is simple, at lvl 10 any druid trainer will tell you to travel to Darnassus and speak with the druid who is the Cenarian Enclave/Druid Grove.  He gives you a spell that aloows you to teleport to Moonglade, from here the chain quest begins.

It wouldn't have a major effect on the game if you set the skill to be learned at lvl 70. Maybe how high you can fly up with the shapeshift is one thing blizzard will have to look in to.
