This pet is easily the rarest in the game. Easily.
I've been (mage) AoE farming the pirates for the last few nights, doing each full boat at a time, with about 2 minutes between each. Killed several thousand, but just in case I've always checked the auction house to see if a bird was in there for a reasonable price. And tonight, among the 20 Green Wing Macaws, was a Hyacinth... with 1 gold buyout. 30 shakiest seconds of WoW I've ever had waiting for that auction to confirm. The moral: It's a huge pain to farm, and you may never get one, but you may get lucky with some clueless level 30 who doesn't check sites like this. Good luck hunters!

I initially tried selling this on AH for like 5g... I knew it was rare drop... But obviously not that rare. Nobody bought, so I figured why not see what it looks like. I did, I was amazed! I love this pet. I hate keeping more than one pet, and this is the one I chose to take everywhere. All bloodsails in STV drop them, but yes it is insanely rare that they drop. Those who think this is the rarest pet in the game, YOUR RIGHT! Who needs Blizz promo pets, when you can get one that even fewer people have.
This parrot is Blue and Teal with Purple tipped feathers, and a yellow stripe along the wingspan. It is easily the most evil looking parrot available. Those dragonlings are nothing compared to this pet. To those of you willing to farm it, good luck, and treasure it!

Yeah... I was going to gain faction with the Bloodsail Buccaneers. Then realizing how much rep I needed I quickly changed my mind and went to get my Bootybay rep back... I was pretty bummed that I couldnt get my Bloodparrot untill... I killed Fleet Master Firillon and the parrot cage dropped. Haha, I was so happy... Uhh yeah just thought I would share that story. The bird is on par with an epic item (Drop % wise) so if you get it dont sell it but rather equip it. 100G is nice but being one of the few people on your server to have one is even better. :)

Using the data given above as of this writing on 2/20/2007, the five lower level mobs shown above to drop the parrot have been killed a total of 391,531 times, dropping it only 29 of those. Simple math lead to the following calculation:
391531 / 29 = 13,501.068965517241 = 13,502 So, given that the data above is correct, this the Hyacinth Macaw drops 1 time for approximately every 13,500 level 40-43 Bloodsails killed on average, or at a .00007406820915841% drop rate, to be precise. In short, it's quite a rare pet. :)

I have been trying to get this thing for...well...a while. I have gotten two epic drops (Underworld Ringsx2) a couple rares (Khoo's point and some druid shoulders) and a myraid of greens including quite a few doubles and even a triple. I may not have it yet...but I am making quite a killing in the meantime monetary wise. I can't even recall how many i've killed so far...its just been a whole helluva lot. I know someone who has TWO of them...supposedly the second one dropped on her 300th kill while the first one took much much longer.
This hunt is driving me completely crazy though, but i'm not giving up on it. My collection is not complete! Good luck to anyone else who decides to try and hunt this thing...it is a pain. If I ever get it, i'll be sure to say something about it. my boyfriend has killed over 2500 pirates, been farming for weeks, he's yet to see this bird drop. he's actually just broken down and put up a ticket to the GM's to see if it even EXISTS on the Arthas server, lol. he's gotten THREE boe epics already, as well as that hat everyone talks about, and still, no bird. lol.
i hope he gets it eventually. he said he was getting it for me, but hahaha as much as he's been farming for this bird, i wouldn't be surprised if he equiped it for himself or tried to sell it for lots of gold! xD i wouldn't blame him either, lol.

My boyfriend FINALLY got the pet! and he surprised me with it too!!
I didn't feel like playing wow today, and he was trying really hard to get me to play. 'Meg, come run an instance with me!' and i really didn't feel like doing it, we even ended up arguing a little over it, hehe! i felt bad, so i finally got on, and he was like 'hey meg.. whats that on your top right action bar?' and there.. i saw the icon for a parrot.. i immediately started shaking and screeching for joy!! he logged on my account and put it there for me!! awww! how sweet! <33 I'm so excited! i looove my widdle burple!! <33 (thats what i've named him. :3 i name all my pets.. like my emerald whelp, Booger!!) it took him around 2 weeks to farm, and thats almost nonstop. he farmed hours on end each night and day and finally got it this morning! hooray!

Been farming this thing for weeks, because I didn't have the gold to buy one off AH for 700-1000g. Never did drop. Today I saw one on AH for 300g, and since I wasted so much time on it that I now have MUCH more gold than before, I just bought it. Much easier than waiting for the drop. However, if anyone is interested in buying 50 bottles of Volatile Rum, let me know.

The one bad thing about this bird is trying to sell it, cause people accuse you of scam every 2 seconds! Everyone reads "parrot cage" and "macaw", but for some reason they assume "hyacinth" is "green", and people tell you "that's about 30s in AH" or "you are one of those idiots who overprice things!"...

So I decided a couple weeks ago to farm this pet for my collection, but that lasted for about 3 days of straight soul-crushing farming and no macaw in sight. I killed a couple/few thousand Bloodsails on the southern coast and in the ships. Being a 77 druid at the time I basically moonfire'd through the groups (i.e. it went fast). I was so invested that tearing myself away from it felt pretty terrible, but my brain just couldn't handle it anymore. Then today I was in STV so I decided to give it another "hopeless" attempt. I started at the Bloodsail Compound and got it in my first round of the ones that had already spawned there!! I was freaking out, I couldn't believe it o_o..

Bit under 22k kills and finally got my hyacinth macaw off from bloodsail magus. So damn happy right now!:D Every farmable vanity pet farmed by my own little hands now...what to do now :o

WTB it on Dragonmaw whisper Waylander or cod for 5k
so far killed over 40k pirates- 15 per minute on average, exalted on all except booty bay. Kill all on boats and beach, alt tab to 2nd account at Pretty boys camp kill all there when im swimming between boats or beach 3 first mates hats and 1 epic- all from main camp at beach- seems to be the hot spot for blues also. For sanity sake don't grind this. I will keep trying but i lost most of my will to live. According to thot pretty boy doesn't drop it although i read on forum somebody else got it from him- please if you get it post who dropped it. Ok finally got it at around 50k Kills- dropped from main camp where the vendor is - this has been a hot spot for me for most of my blues and my 1 epic + 3 First mate hats. So me friend was helping me quest here, she puts it on FFA and the only one she loots happens to have it, she freaks out and takes it and puts it on the Ah for 5000g and forgets about it, and a month later she realized it got destroyed in the mail.... WHHHYYYYY!!!!!

I found one of these while trying to get friendly with the goblins again after doing the BloodSail title put it on the AH for 5k it sold in like 20 mins. 3 days later someone who apparently had no idea what they had put one up for 200g bought it and resold it for another 5k! got both my 80's epic flight going to start farming this one inbetween camping the new raptor pets. Takes awhile to get it but totally worth it in the end. Just off the new raptor pets in a 4 days ive made 3k easy money.

Off and on since last November (2008), and almost 1 year later I went into a three day farm bindge. The best method was going between the two ships that are close together and when they take too long use water walking elixir to go to the 3rd ship. The one that dropped it ended up being one of the three that spawn on the small island in between the two ships. Hmmmmm this drop rate seems to be alot lower than anything on wow I believe it is the rarest thing on wow I have killed 35k pirates probably 300 greens a billion grays a million whites and no blues or epics this is an expensive bird on Deathwing it sells for 10-30k anywhere in the price range.
just got it....all the way down south of wild shore near the camp where the vendor is.....been farming for MONTHS!!!! so ya it takes awhile unless you are lucky...which i wasnt....equipped it...Antonidas realm....good luck all
