There's an unlisted quest for Wailing Caverns.  Once you've killed all the leaders of the fang, come back to the beginning and speak to the Tauren disciple.  He gives you the option to start an escort quest.  You escort him to the sleeping druid, fight through several waves of monster spawns, then you get to fight Mutanis the Devourer.

It isn't a hidden quest.  There's no reward, no XP.  It's like every other instance where someone wants you to escort them.  Once the fanglords are dead talk to the Disciple of Narlex at the beginning and he'll go wake Narlex up, which brings about the final boss for the instance.

No. It's an instance-specific thing, it's not listed because it's not an actual quest that ends up in your quest log. It's more of an instance event. Once all the gem-bosses are dead you can talk to the druid and he will begin walking.

It's in Horde country in the Barrens, just a bit southwest of the Crossroads. If you are Alliance on a PVE server you should be OK without getting pounced on by Horde. Just make sure if you are around level 20 that you go with a full party.

The Leaders of the Fang quest is remarkable in its blue reward (Crescent Staff is the best quest reward for a staff user in their 20s, nothing even comes close to that as a quest reward for Alliance) but it is at the end of a long chain of quests that involve talking to NPCs in the Crossroads and Thunder Bluff. I don't think an Alliance character will be able to interact with them. AND the staff is BOP.

In order to get finish Leaders of the Fang you must kill all four bosses during the same instance run. You cannot just kill two then leave, then restart the instance later to kill the other two. All four must be dead at the same time. When you do, you will be able to talk to the tauren NPC by the entrance, and you will escort him through another phase of the quest.

Getting there was really the scariest part, as we ran from Theramore.  I would have died at least three times before I even got to The Barrens had I gone alone.  It was a lot less scary knowing that my friend was intimate with the areas we ran thru...veer a bit to the left here and the right there, ect.  When in the Barrens things got a little more tense, as a 70 lev Tauren showed up in the road, mounted and massive.  To our surprise, he smiled and waved at us and went the other way.  It was a very pleasant surprise, and a favor that I hope I may return to travelling Horde someday.  My friend ran me to Ratchet, which was awesome, seeing Horde and Alliance running around a town together...and who doesn't love the goblins!?  Don't forget to get the flight path if you come this way.

Now that we've gone and come home, so to speak, I'm itching to get a group together and give it another go, lower levels this time.  There is an NPC, Lord Serpentis, that happens to be using MY bow, and I need to pick it up from him ASAP.  It's a beautiful bow (blue and soulbinding upon picking up, of course, so no going thru the auction, drat it) named Venomstrike - check it out, especially if you're a Hunter.  If I do get a group together, I'll post and let you guys know how it went.

                Happy Hunting!

Hunters can be ok to tank as long as the group watches thier aggro pretty well, obviously if they're going to do it they wanna be beast specced gets thier pets more health, armor, damage etc. Also if need be hunters can use a boucing strategy where they just bounce aggro between their pet and themselves if the group watches thier aggro well half the time the mob will be running from pet to master and it'll work out fine. Obviously warriors are better b/c they can block and have more aggro builders but if no warrior is available and u have a good hunter around its safe to use him. I've tanked everything up to LBRS on my hunter when my groups haven't been able to find a warrior and we've done just fine. Oh and having a turtle can help too they can take a lot of abuse.

It's funny how these threads can go over time.  Let me preface this by saying that some of the first comments were over 3 years ago, which was the time of WoW classic, some of the replies occured within the TBC days, and yet others in WotLK days.  This differs due to changes in game mechanics, classes (buffs and nerfs introduced in various patches), and mob changes (the biggest of all was a 3.0 nerf to the TBC raid bosses losing 30% of their hp, and some dam).  Course this isn't a raid boss, but a lowbie level instance.

As to pets as tank, it's a sort of yes and no.  When in raid, I'm using the pet for straight out dps.  If I'm in a 5 man PuG and the tank should go down, I'm making a judgement call on how close it is.  If we're down to 1 mob, I'm shooting off other players (even the healer) holding agro.  Course they won't hold up long like this (it depends how close, and if we're talking priest or paly, etc).  In the end it's down to pet, so it's a womp on growl, and feign, continue.  But a few things to keep in mind, the pets lasting isn't necessarily the longest, especially as here one's typically using the pet for DPS, both in type of pet and pet's spec (they now have one), and they do have shorter longevity in gengeral.  But there's also the agro issue...

At lvl 30, yeah my pet could hold it pretty well; at lvl 80, and now survival spec, I can pull with a single explosive shot, or whatever.  I have to feign in raids, even with a bonified war, DK, or paly tank; which is fine because I can.  Course for WC, I'd just AoE the crap outa these mobs, today.  So why am I here?  To find the path to lord Serpentis so I can get the achievement...

Now another reason that patch and expansions make a difference here; is the traditional idea of tanking has some twists also.  Both HKM in Gruul's layer, and latter one of the mobs in the Kael'Thas fight (TK: the eye) introduced a twist.  In the latter, a melee would be toast due to excessive fire damage, so it is tanked at range.  In the former, the shamy ad would be tanked by a pair of hunters, as it's range attack dam is less then it's melee, and all nature for which there's aspect of the wild, the lock add, by locks using their enslave demon, and believe it or not, a mage tank, using spell steal to grab the fireshield off it.  Naturally armor and avoidance don't really do anything on elemental dam, but the fireshield....

But these days; as a lvl 80 survival sniper speced hunter, my pet can't hold agro from me very well.  Growl is just too limited.  Now with a 2nd piece of tier 7/7.5 the 5% bonus to pet dam might help a little.  I'd probably have to be in auto-shot the whole time to make it work, something I just don't tend to do so much any longer.  Hell for simple dailies in icecrown, etc, it's easier just to unload, and usually I'm pulling but it's dead by the time the mob reaches me.  Alternatively, if it's not, feign, and begin a little dance with it, with frost traps, moving about, etc to stay at range.

This said, if you're lvl appropriate to be doing this instance, you're probably going to be BM speced, not surv, and won't have the 1,100 + agi, and around 4.2k r ap my guy does.  Yeah he's still gearing in both nax and Ulduar atm...hence why it isn't higher...  At lvl 30ish, I saw no where near the agro pull I'm seeing now; though I did see something approaching it (but less so), when he was BM speced heading through kara in 07...

Why would you call someone a noob and then say something without checking it out? The MOBs in WC are level 17-22 elite do you really think that you would not get experience for killing an elite a level above you? You will in fact continue to get experience for most of the kills through high twenties and will get a little exp for quests on up to 30's.

                                <rant>
I have no problem with people being wrong in these forums but anyone that is going to call someone an idiot or noob better know for sure before they  insult people.

With that in mind it is a lot safer just to NOT be an asshole in the first place. The only reason these forums exist is for people that don't know about the things they are asking about. There is nothing dumber than complaining about people in a forum asking questions related to the forum topic.

the hydra boss u r looking for is not even in the cave where wc is.  its a rare silver elite boss that spawns in the bottom of the lake in front of the cave leading to wc.  again...outside the cave, not inside, :D

just swim to bottom...it's not hard to miss a big red hydra.

i have 5 characters with a total of 100+wc runs altogether and i've only seen it once :(  GOOD LUCK!

wailing caverns is good for exp and armour, but hell for someone boosting you
Its a pretty long for lv aroudnd lv 20
The main parts of it though are the 4 snake lords
The first one, lady anaconda can be found in 1 of 3 places, which makes it important to do the whole of the first floor before jumping down in the river like part
The second snake lord is relatavily easy to find, when yuo jump down into the crocodile infested river, and go left, you climb up alot and, then along a long path, hes at the end, with 2 non elite snake add ons
Then is the 3rd snake lord, you know youve gone into the rigth part when you go through a corridor covered in vegetation
He'll be in the corner of a big room, with a druid nelf and a shambler close by
You should take them out first and then go for the snake lord
The last snake lord is atop along trail, in a massive cavern
However also in that cavern is a also massive shambler
The shambler isnt close enough to take aggro when you fight the 4 snake lord, but still be careful
After the snake lords talk to the druid at the start, and follow him
Dont run ahead! as he gets attack twice by 2 pators once and 3 snakes another
After the snakes you can run ahead and clear any left over enemys
he'll walk into a chamber and begin awakening a nelf
You must gaurd him, as elite snakes, non elite blobs and the final elite boss
The boss has high hp, but should be reletavily easy providing your group is ok
He drops a item which starts a quest
Wailing caverns has its own armour set, known as Embrace of the Viper
This is excelent for druids & shamans, however wont appeal to warriors or paladins
Warlocks or priest's cant equip it as its leather
And rouges can go for it, however includes intelent increase which will go to waste on them
For rouges the Defias set is better
Along the way are 4 optional boss's
The first is a powerful turtle, who drops 2 sheilds, and can rare drip a 1 hand sword
The second is a thunder lizard called scum
Hes annoying with high hp, is gaurded by 2 elites and is immune to all nature damage, not to include he runs away if he gets low hp
The third is a massive shambler, who is a 2nd to last boss if yuo fight him
He isnt easy, with nearly 4000hp and his attacks deal out about 200 damage
The 4th is  a faire dragon
The dragon isnt easy to get to, the way to him is litter with groups of shamblers and druids
Also this boss is a rare boss, so yuo can go check if yuo want, but it can turn out to be a waste of time

In this instance, you must kill ALL the leaders of the fang (Lady Anacondra, Lord Cobrahn, Lord Serpentis, and Lord Pythas), not every boss. Once you have killed all of the leaders of the fang, you should run back to the beginning, unless you need gear from the non-fang bosses. Once at the beginning, talk to "Disciple of Naralex" and he will start a quest in which you must awake Naralex. You get to Naralex's chamber, and fight through waves of monsters, but you MUST keep "Disciple of Naralex" alive. Once he's done, Naralex awakes, a giant murloc named "Mutanus the Devourer" will come out of the water and attack. Kill him and you win! :) Hope this helped as how to summon the Murloc.

What is the Minimum level for skinning in WC?

The mobs in the cave on the outside of the instance are around 50-60. The ones on the inside are around 70-90. Just ran it tonight with a new druid I made and was very bummed because my skinning wasn't high enough for any of the mobs.

I think what makes this instance great is the number of low level greens you can pick up.  If you're in a guild with a lot of new toons you can practically outfit everyone with one run.  I went in with a 40 warrior and 4 empty 16 slot bags and by the time I came out I was dropping everything non-green.  It's also great if you have a toon that you just switched to enchanting because it provides a lot of low level stuff to DE without buying out the auction house and messing up all the low levels trying to upgrade.

                              Wowwiki mentions this jump:
Lord Serpentis & Verdan the Everliving

Backtrack to the fork that you took to the easternmost part of the cavern, and take the other branch. It should climb up a long pathwayy to a cliff edge. The path continues beyond the cliff; there is a gap and a drop. Jump down across the gap. (This is a one-way path.) Make sure you warn everyone in your party about the gap and the drop ahead of time, or you'll sit around waiting for them to climb back (and possibly rez, if they died from the fall.)

When my roommate and I did it, she kept falling and having to come all the way back around to get back up. So I had my mage cast slow fall on her and she just ran forward and floated across.

HAVE YOUR MAGE CAST SLOW FALL ON EVERYONE and they should all make it in one try.

ok, so me and my friend:
                              80 Druid (balance)
80 Rogue (assassnation, i tihnk it's spelt that way)

we were terribly bored and our guild was being boring so we decided to try to do some classic dugeons. and this was one of the ones we did first, we took FOREVER to do it all ( we got lost a TON) and then we accepted the quest, we walked him down there, pwned some raptors butts :) and we are still waitin for the darn guy to wake up, been about 15 minutes. still nothing... i am writing this as we wait, my friend thinks we should run in and run out, but NO, i know we'd have to restart, is it because were 80's?

As a level 75 Night Elf Hunter with my pet Echeyakee this was easy. The only thing that took time was running to each of the four Fanglords you must kill before summoning final boss.

As you enter you will notice a NPC named Disciple of Naralex, you will end up coming back to him when the "evil" is dead.

Watch out for pesky trash mobs... good skinning here ^_^

The bosses you must down are as follows:
Lord Cobrahn (Boss #2 if you use AtlasLoot Ehanced v5.05.00). He is located to the far West of the dungeon. Pain to wind around down to him, but he's an easy kill.

Lady Anacondra (Boss #3). After taking down Boss #2 come back around East and go across the water bridge (north).  Simple to find, easy to kill.

Lord Pythas (Boss #5). He is a pain to get to as well.  Trek all the way (north slightly) East.

Lord Serpentis (Boss #7). He is the biggest pain of all to get to if you have never been here before.  From Boss #5 go south and around the path East and then back up North on to the upper floor.  It's very round-about way but you have to go.

Drop down (I lived, but you might have to back track) and head back to the  entrance to see (Boss #1) Disciple of Naralex.  Talk to him and then follow him to the final boss area.  A few trash mobs are summoned and try to attack, AoE them down.

Once Disciple of Naralex gets to the final boss area (Boss #9) he will be trying to awaken Naralex (found on table) from a terrible dream, in the mean time, you must protect them.  A few mobs emerge from the surrounding water and eventually Mutanus the Devourer (ugly giant murloc) emerges and you take him down.

Whenever you reach a dungeon and enter the instance says "It cant be launched right now" or something like that. I am only at lvl 30 but all the dungeons I have been to so far have had this issue ever since last month. Anyone know about this? If not I am going to contact a GM. Somethin's wrong with Warsong
