That is not a noob thing to say...  as anyone who has been in any HIGHER level instances would know, hounds can detect stealth.  Now, I am not sure if this hound can detect stealth, but don't call someone a noob when you don't even know the answer yourself.

Also, there are some reports that Hunter pets on agressive can detect stealth. This is probably only true if the pet could detect stealth in the wild, as pets retain many of their secondary attributes from their wild status (I.E. run speed, attack speed, some resists) after they are tamed. However, Blizzard is ending most of this in 1.9, so we may never know.

Pets on aggresive will attack anything they see, and pets have their own radius of Stealth Detection so, if they see the rogue, they will attack.

The problem with it being the same level as the summoner and just having a cooldown is that you'll see *everyone* from levels 30-ish to 60 using it all the time.

        What would the point be?

LOLOL ...er you were expecting it to last in Nagrand? I used mine against the water elementals and giants on the Forgotten Coast of Feralas.  At best it managed 4 points of dmg but mostly scored 1-2 pts. It lasted the 10 minutes but only because I was there to do the actual killing.  It's pretty useless above its lvl but is a fun distraction to pull around lowbie hunters who think they're the only ones to whistle up a pet :D

As a lvl 70 i like to always carry one of these around for fun, mainly use them in instances. Once i was boosting 2 guildies through SFK and i used this on Arugal to see could it (being 4 levels higher) tank him. When it attacked Arugal he immediately got agro and was 2 shotted.  Not the toughest of pets this one.

I picked this up in SM. I decided to use it for the first time yesterday on a quest in Strahnbrad, when I would get 3 NPCs attacking me at once. I could fight them without a problem, but the couple extra hits from the dog was helpful. Plus, I noticed if a stealthed rogue was around the hound would alert me by making a noise. I'm an undead mage, and it was nice to have a pet like that, even for just 10 minutes.
What I hated was when the 10 minutes were up; I expected the hound to fade out, but nope. He made a whimpering noise and fell over dead. Kinda bummed me out! (I'm a dork, I get attached to my animals.)
