Highlord Omokk drops the Spirestone gem, Warmaster Voone drops the Bloodaxe gem, and Wyrmthalak drops the Smolderthorn gem. The Unadorned Seal of Ascension (the fourth part) can drop randomly from any mob in the instance. All three gemstones are bind on pickup, the seal does not bind. The droprates of the gems are fairly low, so you're looking at 10-20 runs to lower Blackrock Spire in order to get them all. Assuming that not everyone in the party rolls on the gems, that is.

You also need to have the seal to get the quest to gather the gems, although you don't need to have the quest to pick them up.

The easy entrance that you dont have to fight your way to is accessed by going into BlackRock Mountain. If you enter thru the door in Searing Gorge take a left and travel until you get to the big chain. Climb up on the chain but instead of going down the chain to the center like you are going to BRD take a left and go up. You'll find a hidden passage that goes up to a balconey. Jump onto the balconey and the entrance to the instance is thru the doorway.

I'm not going to mention anything about skinning.

UBRS has humanoid and dragon mobs, mostly 58-61 elites, although there are some none elite mobs (the eggs in the rookery spawn non elites when broken).  This is a fairly easy instance, with 15 people but you do have to take your time and be a bit careful.  It normally takes me about 2 to 3 hours to complete.  I would recomend people being level 58 or above before going to this instance, but I have taken a maximum of one level 57 per run.

                    My favourite group setup includes:
                    2 priests
                    1 druid
                    1 warlock
                    2 mages
                    2 warriors
                    2 paladins
                    2 hunters
                    2 rogues
                    1 keyholder

What I've found, is between sheeping, sapping, sleep, and freezing traps...with this group setup you can almost always figure out a way to not fight an entire group or mob at once.  Plus, you havn't more than 3 of any class (counting the keyholder) and when it comes to class set items, this makes people happier.

I've not done the UBRS key quest myself...but this should be helpful:

UBRS Key is called "Seal of Acention"
you need the unadorned Seal of Acention and it's a random drop in LBRS. Then you need to talk to a guy in LBRS to get the quest that allows you to form the key. The 3 gems are dropped off Warmaster Voone, Lord Omokk, and Overlord Wyrmthuk. Then there more stuff in Dustwallow Marsh to complete the key (for alliance anyway).

Secondly all quests in UBRS can be done in a raid, but the LBRS ones are 5 man only. UBRS is possable 5 man, but it's really damn hard.
Level for BRS is 54 min (I think) but your doomed to fail unless your level 56+ really. Even then 57+ is far better.

You do need 310 skinning to Skin the Beast and now you get get a sword from ZG or Finkles Skinner (Dagger that The Beast drops).

Hope that clarifies up most things.

BUt I don't totally agree with everything else you said.  Hunter DPS is constant and consistent - rarely is a shot parried or blocked and if the hunter has the added distance he is beyond the range or most aoe stuns which stop a main tank.  Also, does you DPS counter include the pet?  When you through in the damage a pet does a hunter's dps moves up in the ranks.  Also, the ability to send the pet on an annoying caster to keep him off cloth wearer's or even the main tank is a bonus.  Generally, most any class played poorly can be useless and annoying there just happens to be a number of hunters who are poor in groups.

LBRS and UBRS are technically both the same instance; the different names were given only by players - you will note in your Quest Log that it states only Blackrock Spire, making no differentiation between the two.

If you know how to enter the BRS instance, you can then choose to go left, up a flight of stairs and through the locked door for which you will need the key (many posts above have commented on this item) - as you have just gone UP the stairs this is called UPPER BRS

                                  OR

you can go right, basically down a collection of slopes. As you have gone DOWN, this is, you guessed it, LOWER BRS.

                                  It's as simple as that.

Blackrock Spire is the whole instance. "Lower" Blackrock Spire is where you go in through the instance portal and turn right. "Upper" Blackrock Spire is where you go in through the instance portal and turn left - there's a door there with a bunch of unlit braziers. If you have the Seal of Ascension in your inventory the braziers will light and the door will open (thankyou to the designers who made it such a theatrical entrance, it really is nice to watch).

From "Upper" Blackrock Spire, you can actually jump down into "Lower" Blackrock Spire from a number of locations - including the broken walkway where you find Awbee, and the bridge across to Drakkisath's throne room.

Lower Blackrock Spire is where you find the trolls and ogres with the Firebrand orcs. Upper Blackrock Spire is mostly orcs and dragonkin.

The entrance to Blackrock Spire is that portal on the balcony room, which you will eventually be shown by whoever you're grouped with when you're going there. Ask a guildmate for help perhaps.

the '?" or "skull" level on certain bosses are meant merely as a mask on their true level.  Just why they are masked is unknown, but I can assure you that they are not effective level 500. It may be a not-so-subtle hint from the designers that these things are rough and not to be attempted solo or in small groups. Such designation is probably a special classification to let people know that this mob is going to require teamwork and lots of it to beat, not necessarily just based on levels alone.

Where that stupid myth about them being lvl 500 came from is known, but it their level is basically 3 higher then the maximum level of players; at least in instances.  That means that in alterac valley (lvl 51-60 version), UBRS and so on they are effective lvl 63.  If they were higher level then that, the players would not be able to effect them at all.

Chance to hit, dodge and resistances etc. are based on level ratios as well as gear/special abilities.  Just like if a twinked lvl 20 tries to hurt a level 40 NPC opponent, the 40 will resist, dodge, parry, block etc. most of the attacks, and any damage landed will be reduced considerably.  If you look at the portrait of a monster and it is red but you can see the level, then you know it is going to be a very tough fight. Same with these elites, only they are scaled for massed players to fight all at once.

With burning crusade, I am not sure what happens now to outdoor 'raid' bosses like Teremous the Devourer (dragon flying around the blasted lands)....he is still listed as "?" or "skull" to a lvl 70, but he was able to be effected by lvl 55's before (in raid groups).  even general drakkisath is a skull to lvl 70's (so I have been told), but that just means he is meant to be taken seriously and is not just another mob in the place.

Also, the skull classification indicates a boss encounter, so you know off the bat not to try to use crowd control techniques and the like, and to be wary.

UBRs is a ten man raid. Since LBRs and UBRs are in the same instance, you can enter LBRs as a 10 man raiding party & you will get standard boss drops (including Stones for key), but you cannot complete LBRs quests in 10man party. You have to be 5 man standard party size to get quest credit in LBRs.
Level goes along with that. Nobody below lvl58 should be in UBRs 10 man. Sure if you are with an UBER party or guild they can run with 2 or 3 55s, but standard PUG shud be minimum 58 & thats for Pallys/healers/druids.. Tanks/Rogues/Shaman/Mage/locks/ Hunters should be lvl 60.

You need to kill EVERYTHING inside the room past the braziers or the door won't open.

The room has several cells in which there are mobs of about 4 or 5 and in the middle of each cell is a glyph thing on the floor. Once the said group is dead, the glyph fades or deactivates.

You have to make sure you kill everything in the room, basically.

Sadly a lot of the original higher level instances are not really that relevant anymore for the level they were designed for.  Outland, with much better gear and experience beckons once you hit your mid 50's.

However, LBRS does make a nice solo dungeon for lvl 70s.  I did it with my 70 fury warrior (purple weapons, some purple armor but mostly blues).  It was generally easier using a shield, but more exciting dual-wielding (a true race of kill or be killed :) ) What I found nice was I couldn't just zerg through - you really need to plan your pulls a little before rushing in.  Hamstring is your best friend because runners, no matter how elite you think you are, will eventually get you killed.  Healers and casters still need to die first.  They hit surprisingly hard - 700+ dmg and some really nasty debuffs and curses.

The take, counting items sold on AH and less repairs, was a bit over 100 gold.  And it was fun!

So if you are sick of daily quests, take a break and hit one of the higher level classic old instances.  Might make a nice rewarding vacation from BC content.

This instance is located right off of searing gorge. Just go west and when u see a bridge going up then go on the bridge (Blackrock Depths is loacted by the first chain to your west and follow the chain and go in the cave and go down and this should be there.) (Lower blackrock spire is located by the first 1 but instead of going down the chain go up and when ur on the wall jump onto the ledge and turn and you should see it.)

I started out doing BRD solo at level 70 for fun and to measure how my character power improved when i had obtained new gear.
It occured to me that there was a significant amount of money to be earned doing instances solo, but BRD spawns little Bind on equip gear and not much plans and designs that can be sold on the auction house, so i started out in the lower Blackrock spire..

My character is an epic specced combat Rogue wich uses battleground gear. I use deadly poison and cripling poison on my swords for the extra damage and to avoid mobs from running off. I can handle groups up to 5 or 6 mobs but when one runs off and gets another group then it would be too much and i have to use vamish. Usually i can solo the complete instance without having to do so.

On a complete run through the instance i gather around 20 gold in silverpieces from the trash mobs, sell for about 30 gold on blue soulbound and useless items to the vendor, and -more importantly- about 100 gold on sells on the auction house. My best run was about 500 Gold when some good plans or designs dropped. I'd say i get around 150 - 250 gold for each run and this takes about one hour.

The only mobs that i have difficulty with and have to use all my powers to kill are War Master Voone and Overlord Wyrmthalak (end boss) Voone hits VERY hard and if you cant down him quick enough your dead meat, to date i had to use vamish on him once when i forgot to wait on some colldowns...
Overlord Wyrmthalak is about the same, hits less hard then Voone but he spawns two trash mobs.

Sometimes i miss the company of others when soloing LBRS but as someone said in a post above its more difficult to do this with others then it is to do alone. They aggro wandering mobs and because the lower level will draw any mob to them -thus dying-

Such a shame UBRS cant be solo'd because of the three people needed to summon a firemob wich opens up a door on his death. Though i doubt my character is powerfull emough to solo the UBRS instance...

But doing LBRS solo is both fun as it is profitable...

We hit UBRS last night with 3 Paladins and 1 Mage and creamed the entire 10 man raid in a little under 28 minutes.  It dropped, a ton of trash greens, 9 boe blues, tons of grey crap and a ton of cash.  It was fun and exciting, and we downed every boss.  We even were sloppy and pulled a Leeroy.
