At Neutral this give approx. 1.6% of the faction bar (used a numerical reputation interface mod to see this). At this rate, the quest will need to be repeated 62 times to get to friendly.
However, to get the spiffy mount, the quest giver says he will sell only to the most exalted buyer (neutral > friendly > honored > revered > exalted).
Normally, faction accumulation rates slow down when you reach a higer rank. True, there are two higher quests obtainable as your faction goes up, but if the furbolg quests are any indication, it will give the same faction boost.
So how many times do you need to do these quests? 250? 500? 1000? More?
For that, the mount should outpace a griffon!
He says, "Only the most trusted and exalted may attempt to ride one." You need to be Exalted to buy one of the mounts from him.
"If you're the right level (58-60) for the quest, you'll probably have a better chance of getting the saber, by how most quests work with level increases. (This did not happen with Exodar or the Sin'dorei because those are from the expansion. It was necessary to increase rep gain for 60's that wanted that particular faction's mounts, so don't complain to me about that!(I know you weren't going to, but I'm gonna stop anyone who tries to RIGHT THERE.)) I'm not sure if the rep is still the same, but it should be. However, at 70, I don't really think you'd want that mount when you could have the Amani War Bear, or even farm Strat for the Baron's mount. Hell, even the TCG's spectral tiger mount. (Of course, who would pay that price for a single card?!)
Also, if you're a human, you'll only need to do a small fraction less of the quests. Muahaha, I love being a Human Paladin!

Reposting this up here because its so usefull.
Plus, I just did the Quest 6 times and the next one is available once you are HALFWAY through NEUTRAL. <3
BTW, I submitted a pic, but they obviously haven't added it yet, so here::

Here's how it works...
You start Neutral and receive .0166% rep bonus for each quest turned in. The only quest available is the Frostsaber Provisions one where you have to collect meat from the Chimera and Bears. Half way through Neutral (exactly 30 quests), the NPC unlocks a second quest for you. This is the Winterfall Intrusion quest. 30 more of either quest will get you into Friendly.
Once you work your way through Friendly (.0083% rep bonus) and get to Honored (.00415% rep bonus), the NPC unlocks a third quest for you. This is the Giants quest in south Winterspring. You are required to kill only 8 of the lvl 59-60 elite giants but they're further away and most likely can not be soloed. There's really no point in taking the extra time and effort to do this one unless you want to try for some nicer items (Yes, they drop much nicer than the furbolg).
Each bar of reputation that you earn cuts the reputation bonus in half. 60 quests to get Friendly, 120 to get Honored, 240 to get revered. All-in-all, you'll have to do 420 of the quests to get ELIDGIBLE for the mount.
None of the quests offer a larger rep bonus upon turn in and none of the mobs offer rep bonus upon killing. The only way to get rep bonus is at quest turn in.
So if that isn't enough of a kick-in-the-pants, just think that you won't even be 1/2 done with the quest until you're 25% into Honored. :)
Most don't even start, a lot quit after a while, but I'm in it for the long haul. Cya on my new mount.

And yes... my post before only listed 420 quest turn-ins. That was before I found out (the hard way) that I need to be exhaulted.
Currently 54% through revered and going strong. :)

Im still curious as to if its "free" or you have to buy it.. looked on a few other remarks about it some say you have to guy others say other wise and it seems asking a GM or blizzard rep doesn't help cause they don't answer you.. im thinking for such a crazy quest line of killing and rep gaining each quest that it would be free but blizzard has yet to shock me with some of the stuff they put in here as of yet. im currently working on it and knowing if it was free or not would really make me want to do it more or like wise. if anyone ever finds out or someone that has actually aquired one within this time i would like any info you have. ^^ thanks.

This IS a game and is for fun, calling people losers or stupid is just mean, uneccesary and immature. I am on the first leg of this quest and am only doing this for status. Sometimes the grind of raids and instances is just a bit much and doing this before bed is perfect lol I keep seeing 900g for epic mount and while I can't say how much this epic mount is, when I go to Darnassus (lvl60 NE) I see the epic mounts for 800g, not the previous amount stated. I have heard the mount is a purple/white cat like his cat but I would assume it's larger >.< At least I REALLY would hope so lol It'd be nice if it were free, but again this is for fun and as a status symbol mostly.

Ok the way this quest goes is as follows:
-You have to reach exalted status with the Frostsaber trainers to buy the mount. Exalted status will change the mounts cost from 900g to 720g due to discounts. If someone knows this is wrong, please correct me.
- The Frostsaber trainers DO NOT teach you how to ride the mount. This is a skill you need to learn from Darnassus I believe. Again, if someone knows this is wrong, correct me.
The quest is very tedious, yes. Hang in there though, cause the mount is very sweet. While I won't be doing this quest for a Frostsaber mount, I will be doing the Darnassus ones cause I like their epics more. Good luck to you guys and remember: It's a game and it's up to you to make it fun.

Reputation works like this... 3000 rep in neutral, 6000 rep in friendly, 12000 rep in honored, and 21000 rep in revered. Now, when you start this, you can ONLY do the first quest, which is get 5 meat from the chims and the bears each(10 meat total). The meat are a drop rate, so you have to kill more than 10 total of course... depends on your luck. The second quest I think u get it at half neutral, and u get the same rep as the first and third quest... 50 rep. 55 if you are human. So to get the second quest, you need to do the first quest 1500/50 times which is 30 times. The second quest has you kill ursa and shamans which are NOT skinnable, but you will get BEYOND a lot of firewater which is cool. :) This is the quest everyone pretty much does because u can do it solo or in a group for the same rep. So expect to do this second quest (1500 + 6000 + 12000 + 21000)=40500rep/50rep= 810 times to get to exalted. Unless you are human, where it is 737 times. If you are a human you need to also get exalted with Darnassus though, which will involve a few hundred gold in runecloth, and unfortunately winterfall mobs don't drop that. Also, by killing winterfall mobs u get 5 rep with timbermaw furbs per normal kill and 25 for the boss normally. So if you actually do that, u should get 50 timber rep per quest run without the boss so your rep for both factions should go up about the same. However it depends, because u start less than neutral with the timber depending how busy you were in Felwood before that.

I can say these things truthfully:
I am a night elf.
I get 50 rep points for turning in the 10 meat.
Over the last 12 turnins, the drop rate for a piece of meat averages between 6 to 7 kills.
Yesterday I turned in 3 times; ended up with 119 rugged leather, 39 chimura leather, 24 wearbear leather and 2 green items which I sold in AH for 9 gold.
I got the quest at level 58 and I am level 60 as of last week and all i've done is killed bears and chimuras.
Its tedious, but when I get to 1500 (should be by next week) I will let you know what happens to the quest.
For those who asked: he will not teach you to ride a saber, you have to go to Darnassas for that. That also includes getting rep points there.
Im at 1400 of 3000. going from 900 to 1200 wasnt bad. I had a Great server day. meat was dropping almost every 3rd kill. I stopped at 1200, I ended up with 150 skins and made almost 70 gold selling and repairing items.
1200 to 1400 was a bit of a chore. I think I ended up killing 14 bears or chimura before the first meat dropped. I considered dropping the quest and starting it again because it was almost rediculous. Every bear I skinned was giveing me warbear something (sorry, cant rmeember which warbear fur it gives) again, I though wow..12 in a row now. Im looking for rugged leather, that sells the best. Took 4 hours to get enough to make 4 turn-ins. That was rough.
I will do another round probably Friday so my update next week will let everyone know what the quest does at 1500. I read one post stating it changes. Ill let you know.
sorry for the tease, but 4 hours of bears and chimura killings really tanked!
I'm currently doing Frostsaber Provisions and Winterfall Intrusion (unlocked very recently) to gain reputation with Wintersaber Trainers.
I use the Frostsaber Provisions quest to get leather and use this for making Rugged Armor kits for the Darkmoon Faire turn-in, and I also kill a few Owls along the way for Vibrant Plumes (also Darkmoon Faire turn-in).
Now that furbolgs drop Runecloth (since Patch 1.9) you can theoretically use the second Wintersaber Trainers quest to earn Darnassus reputation if you need Tiger Riding, and collect the beads they drop for Timbermaw reputation at the same time.
So if you haven't already got Darnassus, Timbermaw and Darkmoon Faire reputation this quest and the second one offered by the Wintersaber Trainers are one way of building 4 reputations at the same time, albeit in a painstakingly repetitive manner.
Thanks for the 4at once update. I didnt know about the Dark Moon fair turnins..
I made 1500 and as soon as I turned in that last bit of meat a 2nd quest is now available for rep points.
Winterfall Intrusion
Obtained at level 60 Alliance
Rivern Frostwind wants you to slay 5 Winterfall Shaman and 5 Winterfall Ursa.
http://www.thottbot.com/?qu=5201
Good thing is I can still do the meat quest (which yesterday I was averaging 1 drop ever 5 kills)
by far easier is killing the ursa and shaman's. I had a bit of competition after my 3rd turnin but I did 4 turnin's in a two hour period, vs 2 with the meat. the last turn in I did the meat too, which gave me 100 rep points.
I noticed killing the ursa and shamans my rep for the Timbermaw Hold was also going up. BONUS!
so take the advise from FantasyMeister in the above post.
you can do pretty well here.
Oh, just so you know, I had 4 Level 52-55 greens and 3 gold drop in 4 runs. I bet I made 7 gold from the junk they also dropped, which I sold. All told, not a bad day. Im going to add feathers and Ill make a few rugged patches too, since I got 64 rugged skins off the meat part of the quest yesterday.
Ill let you know when something changes.

I got this mount on my main and am currently working on the quest series again for my alt!
The mount is the only EPIC mount in game for alliance that only requires riding skill 75 (w/ the patch even the PVP mounts require a riding skill of 150)
and its cost is (or was) 90g for me..but since i had exalted darnassus rep i'd imagine the correct cost is 100g (if you don't have the discount associated w/ rep)
The fact that it only requires riding skill 75 DOES NOT appear to be a bug to me...but rather planning on Bliz's part to reward those who actually complete the rep grind!
(I completed it under the old rep of 50 per turn in on my main....only reason i'm considering doing again is because of the 50% increase in rep per turn in, i.e. going from 50 to 75, and the fact that my alt is human and will receive a bonus on top of that per turn in)
Indigomoon-Llane
at this moment, 1,2 years after all the previous posts, i get 75 rep per quest turn in instead of 50, meaning that you only have to do the quests ( 2/3 out of 420 = ..) 280 times now, still an awefull lot of running around though :)

Ive started this myself. Currently on day 1 and i must say the meat drop rates on the first quest isnt all that great. So it will take me a while to get to the next quest after returning 30 of the first one. But i shall stick with it!
On and Locations for people who wanted them.
Shardtooth and Chillwind can be found at 56,20. All the was North and South. Until you hit everlook of course.
Wish me luck ;p
So, after a bucket load of “No Life” comments from guild members I finally decided to accept the first quest for this bad boy.
On my first go I got all 5 Shardtooth meat simultaneously, beginner’s luck I found and from then on it took me 25-30 minutes to gather all 10 pieces of meat.
When I handed in the pieces of meat I was expecting a low pathetic boost in reputation, which I was prepared for but instead I got 250 rep as a Night Elf. So to confirm, yes, since the new patch (I presume) the reputation gain has been boosted.
So, to do the math;
Neutral to Friendly:
3000 Ă· 250 = 12 (You need to do the quest 12 times to get to Friendly)
12 × 30 (Let’s just put 30 as an average of time, dismissing other factors, i.e. level, class) = 360 minutes
So that’s roughly about 6 hours in total.
I haven’t gone past Friendly yet to know the rep gain from then on but I’m sure that’s approximately the amount of time needed to get to Friendly.
Of course there is the possibility that different races get different amounts of rep, so for Night Elves that’s a rough guide.
For all non-skinners who won't get any benefits from farming these mobs, try and loot everything that drops (if you have the bag space) most likely those items will stack up and so will the money if you vendor them.
Best place to farm is near coords 56,21.
Don't act like a fool; read the comments and especially the dates of them. You *used* to need Darnassus rep to ride it, as that was the faction with tigers, and this is a tiger mount. That all changed with 2.0, or maybe a little before that. When the game came out, you did have horse riding skill, tiger riding skill, etc. For any other mount it didn't really matter, as you couldn't purchase that faction's mount without being exalted anyway.
Many changes have been made in the game as years have gone by. Maybe this mount used to cost 800g but not anymore. It's cheaper. Also you do not need to worry about any rep with Darn to get this mount. Just get exalted with the Wintersaber Trainers, have the gold, and you get the mount. Yes, you only need riding skill 75 to ride it and it is epic (speed 100%) which is cool.
this is the biggest cat mount in the game.
its white with purple stripes(unlike any other saber)
and lastly its an epic mount without armor or a saddle.

Where to get it:
- Frostsaber Rock, all the way in the north of winterspring from Rivern Frostwind [50,10]. (On top of the big rock jutting out.) Once Exalted, you can purchase the mount for 80 gold.
FIRST:
- Quest:Frostaber Provisions
- Amount: 6 times.
- Notes:
This quest drop rate isn't the funnest for a grinding quest, but it isn't too horrible. Just think, once you finish this part you never really have to do it again! (Unless you are a skinner and enjoy skinnings from these.. but note your bags fill up faster picking up those dang bear jaws and whatnot >.<!)
SECOND:
- Quest:Winterfall Intrusion
- Amount: 162 times.
- Notes: This is the quest we grinded on the most. Reason is: It is not a drop rate quest, it is just a kill quest. The location of the mob is at [68,36]. It will be a small little village, and they will typically be in the rear area of the village as well as on the ridge directly south of there.
BONUS!
- Quest: Beads for Salfa
- Notes: If you have completed the Winterfall Activity quest (given by Salfa at 27,34), then Winterfall Spirit Beads will drop along with your kills.
- Warning!: I would wait until -after- you finish with your Wintersaber Trainer Rep or until -after- you are honored to turn in the beads. (You don't have to, but it's advice I wish I had when I started..) This is so you still get as much experience from killing the mobs as possible.
- Why would I do this too?:
With enough experience, you can buy things from Meilosh. Click here to see all the many things you can get, not including eventually getting the quest for Defender of the Timbermaw.
Tip!
- Make sure you have all quests accepted at all times. You never know when you will be killing the giants. Also, if you get dazed to or from the furbolgs, there might be a possibility a meat might drop! If this happens enough it's like a bonus quest turn in :P
We started out at level 62, the two of us. We made twins in game and figured we wanted matching mounts as well.. and this was our goal. We could never be happier with our griding. We plan on getting this mount again for our second set of twins as well.
Please note that this is a mount that has 100% speed increase, however you only need 75 riding for it! So if you don't have the gold for the upgrade in riding, you don't have to worry until later (but beware.. it will bite you in the butt later as you will have to spend -more- because to get the 225 riding, you need the 150 first >.<!). We personally both had epic mounts as to make the commute between the quest giver and the quest area faster, thus less time spent on grinding.
there is also a giant quest that comes at some point ( Rampaging Giants ), but the quest is so far south we only did it when all of the mobs were either being killed by others for the quests from Everlook and whatnot or when we needed a break from the furbolgs. They took longer to kill, were spread out more and are also elite.
Finally, I would also like to note that this amount is not relevant for the human race in the game. Their reputation gain is increased so the mount you need to do each quest will be even less! *sigh*

It's worth the time it takes to do this. I started as a lvl 62 hunter and ended as a lvl 65. I did all the quests by myself. Fairly easy as a hunter. It took a few months, but I don't play everyday. Very nice mount and very fast. Also gathered a ton of leather. I made and sold a lot of Warbear Harnesses, and made a lot of gold. If you're in a hurry to level up and advance, don't bother with this. If you're up to the challenge and realize the rest of the stuff will still be there later, you gotta get this mount.
The only thing that really bothers me about this one is that you have to keep getting the quest to get the meat drops, you can't just farm 40 of each meat and then go turn them all in at once. Other than that, tons of XP, tons of leather, a bunch of E'ko things, tons of other stuff you can sell(including several green drops and a blue drop). It would also be very nice if Large Bear Bones stacked. It's a pain having a bag fill up half with just those.
Oh, and it'd be darn nice if once you got friendly with these guys, they got friendly with you, it's annoying being attacked by the kitties when you are trying to bring them food.
I'm sticking with this quest. the Giants are too far away and the Winterfall village near Everlook is camped 24/7. 5 a day for a month should do the trick. It's hardly worth it, though. Since I'll likely get an easier epic mount in Northrend.
I've been running this quest and Winterfall Instrusion now that I'm over 1500 rep. The drop rate for the meat has been 1 in 3 (or better). On the way to the Winterfalls I'll often complete this quest with just an extra couple minutes of time. The Winterfall camp can be camped at times but this quest alone is efficient. Mining + Skinning are a definate bonus for this quest line.
Okay, this is how I see it. I'm a level 62 Night Elf Druid, I started this quest(s) at level 61. I can't stay focused on doing the same thing over and over so I keep doing other things. Today I finally got honored with the Wintersaber Trainer. I did the math and as of THIS date (02-18-2009) with all the updates and patches, I had to do the first quest six times before he unlocked the second quest. I got through neutral by only doing twelve quests, however I look at it in the terms that I only visted the questgiver nine times. I quested those two quests through friendly and got to honored, which unlocked the third quest. The first two quests are worth 250 reputation points and the third quest is worth 350, for a total of 850 every time you turn them all in at once. If I did my math correct (hopefully I did), I only have to visit the trainer aproximately 61 times from nuetral to exalted. I am able to take out the elite giants by myself at level 62 (third quest). Hopefully, I've only got 39 more times to visit the trainer, so I'm thinking I'll finally get there in the next two weeks by spending just a few hours on these quests a day. Maybe longer on the weekends which would cut down the time. As was said in the previous comment too, the drop rate for me seems to be about 1 in 3. Sometimes it's higher, sometimes it's lower, dont' get discouraged, you'll get them. I can't wait to get this frostsaber... Hope none of you give up either! HAPPY HUNTING!
It started with a vendor mount, just once in a while. I figured if I used one now and then, I could handle it. Before long, I was doing Netherwing dailies. My friends told me I should quit, said I was a different person lately...
I'm halfway through honored and have discovered that repeating the Winterfall quest is much more efficiant than trying to do the meat and/or the Giant quests. I only do them when the Winterfall village is 'crowded' with questers. Using the heathstone I can sometimes do the quest 6 times in an hour (mostly 4 or 5 is good). Try doing it off times like early in the AM or late night Mid-week. Happy Hunting!
I am doing this quest chain just to get exal. with another faction for the achievement (currently have exal. status with 25 factions) another mount would just be an extra, got the netherwing, war bear and a few others.
You should not stop i did the timbermaw and that took me the hole summer and it was worth it jest like this is worth it
As of 12 oct 2009 I'm on this quest. Seems a waist to do the timbermaw quest (besides if yuour going for items or rep). The village is to far away, and then respawms of the shardtooths and ravagers are very good.
My balance druid runs around FF-ing, pulling them in groups and then killing them with aoe.
Possibly if there's competition you wanna do the timbermaw quest. But then in a sequence like 2 1 2 1 or so.
Hope it helps
I'm level 58 at the moment and I've finished the quest... once.
Hearing that you have to do this quest 65 times, is starting to make me Re-think this. I know, everyone will be staring at you with envy, but that's a lot of time out of my life. I don't actually play World of Warcraft that much and I've already got two characters doing the Horde Mount quest (A Raptor), which actually takes less time then this quest (Unless you really work at it). My point is... Why do this quest?
