Is this the most damaging spell there is? a fully spec fire mage could push this over 1k dmg easy.

With a full fire profile, you can go up to 3K damages in a single spell (guaranteed critical + 10% damage increase + 40% ignite damage bonus).

Of course, to go to 3 K damages, you must factor in the double critical possibility...

        3k in a single spell...?
I dont see how that's possible.
Spell crits are normally 50% extra damage, unlike melee crits which are 100% extra damage.

Certain trees have talents that allow you to boost it beyond 50% (e.g. Frost tree for mages and Destruction tree for warlocks) but Fire tree doesn't have that option.  Instead we can boost crit damage with Ignite (40% DoT).

        Pyroblast does about 800 dmg.

With an Arcane Power build, a crit might be:

        800 * 1.5 (crit) * 1.35 (Arcane Power) * 1.4 (dot from ignite) = 2268

With a Firepower build, a crit might be:

        800 * 1.5 (crit) * 1.1 (Firepower) * 1.4 (dot from ignite) = 1848

The calculation of the thoerical max damage that can be done by spells.

So, lets use 890 as the highest damage.

        890 * 1.10 = 979, So a fire mage can do 979 damage max on base hit.

Now for the critical and the other spell Curse of Elements.  Based on some tests, Curse of elements can increase the damage of fire by half the amount of fire resistance pushed into the negative in percentage.  The highest curse of elements I know is 75.  So 37.5% damage increase to pyroblast.

        979 *1.375 = 1346(approx)
        1346 * 1.50(critical damage) = 2019

Now for ignite boost of 40%

        2019 * 1.40 = 2836(truncated)

And for the final 268 DoT

        2836 + 268 = 3094(truncated)

So a theorical max of 3094 is possible.  Now all we need is the best suit for a full fire mage.  That could increase the damage overall to 3500 or higher.

        Now lvl 47, but CMON!!!
He got lots of blue items LOTS!
and that spell, as you say, with areound 2000 damage..... a fireblast would be enough to kill him :D

lol.. stop right there! i know, i know...
        17 lvls to lvl 60....
But seriously, warriors are suposed to have the most HP in the game....
This spell is great! Though, it would be a pretty good idea of sheeping first ;P
6 seconds is pretty much in a PVP battle....
Took a priest once in my own lvl thanks to this fella of a spell...
But its right... fireball aint much behind in the damage and for half of the casting time!

Can't you get an additional 10% from improved scorch, assuming you got it stacked on 5 times.

That gives 2836 DD + 268DoT + 283scorch= 3387 as the theoretical maximum.  That of course requires a warlock and multiple mages to stack scorch on.

edit: Plus damage modifiers from gear could boost that even higher

hmmm according to my stuff if u have the exact right +fire effect/damage gear, the top arcane talent (+35% to spells i assume by "all" it means frost/fire too) , the burning talent after u crit with pyroblast, amplify magic, and your pyroblast crits....*out of breathe* ......ive found that the spell can do a maximum of 3665 dmg total.

(if it can do a 100% crit the dmg can go up to 4669 i think)

in other words any lvl 60 rogues hell most warriors would be pawned in about 12 seconds or under

You guys seem to underestimate rogues. With the introduction of the new pvp trinket most players can counter your polymorph affect.

Yes it can only be done once, but if the player waits till u begin casting u will get owned. pyroplast is only good vs inexperienced players or if you get the jump on your opponent.

Also you guys are obviously very inexperienced, outside of duels, pvp is random, it wont occur when ur combustion spell is always cooled down trust me, and you wont always get the jump, as a mage u should hardly ever get the jump.

I have a 57 combat rogue with improved ambush + prep. a crit on an ambush (25% normal + 45% talent = 70% Chance) will kill (or at least take u down to 1/3-1/2 Hp) cloth wearers, warlocks being the exception if they have a soul link with their pet.

As a mage you shouldnt rely on Crits, thats what a rogue does.

I accept that Mages can do more damage than a Rogue and can bring more to a party.

Whats better at PvP? Rogues or Mages?

            You decide.

i have a 70 fire mage with presence of mind, with 535 bonus fire damage, my pyroblast usually hit for about 1800, my highest crit was 3805 + 40% ignite= 5325 dmg( with no buffs from other players)only had molten armor, AI, and combustion.

oneday i got lucky and did pyro for 2800 +1 tick of ignite for 373.cast presence of mind, and another instant pyro for 2205 + 294(1 tick)ignite( this ignite overides the 1st= )and a 2177 fireblast + 40% ignite for 871(this ignite overides the previous. and theres a dot that comes with pryo and does 348 damage( i think)for a total of 9068 dmg
