OK... I know this is a dead thread, but I couldnt help but reply.
Obviously you have forgotten the tenents of TKD good sir. One of them is "I will not misuse Tae Kwon Do".
To sit there and say that you would hurt someone with TKD because you are angry is a flagrant misuse of TKD. Obviusly you don't take the art serious enough. TKD, and any martial art, is a lifestyle... not something to use because you get "angry".
That statement makes me question whether or not you are actually in TKD or some pimple faced kid sittin in his dark room wth nothing better to do than post their delusions on Thottbot threads.
Im a 56 holy pally.
I dont really mind healing. Im a capable tank when I get my gear. But you shouldn't be annoyed with healing. Without healers there wouldn't be any raids, which would suck.
Alot.
This is an important point. Priests do not live to solely be your healbots. We just don't. We still play the game, because we have found a way to get away from the 5-per-hour "Hey, wanna do...." tells, we get all the time very once in a while by just tuning out, and killing things by our own.
If it were for some of the posters, here, I'd be a healbot, stand in the corner, click buttons, keep people alive, and shut the hell up until I am being spoken to. That is, until they need me again, because MC attuned priests are rare. Then there's friendly in the cards, until ... of course ... I bring up the case of me not being a Healbot, again. Then it's back in the corner...
You know, why there's so few MC Priests? Because it sucks being pelted by invites and tells to do Scholo, Strath, BRS, five, six, times a day, being expected to respec and gimp oneself to the benefit of others, not own gains (quick, what class gets the spoils of downing Rag? And what class makes survival in there possible more than any other class?). Change it. Give your Priests a life after 60, allow them to live a little and kill things, for a change.
I'm a druid who totally agrees you man. I get so sick of getting tells from groups begging me to join only to hear, "just sit in a corner and heal and battle-rez, kthx."
But to be quite frank this set is geared for warlocks, and you'd do just as well to go for the Devout set as a shadow priest. A warlock shouldn't ninja a Devout Set item from a priest, and a priest shouldn't ninja an item from this set from a 'lock... end of story.
I agree, that must be annoying, always asked to heal and never to ACTUALLY play! Oh, and I am a 60 warlock, so there! I think anyone should play however they want, especially those that keep the groups alive! Sheesh, if they want the freakin armor, let them have it! What's the big deal, anyway? People can be so prejudiced sometimes, especially when they think the "rules" support their narrowminded point-of-view!

Every class has 1 blue set:
Warlock: Dreadmist
Priest: Devout
Mage: Magister
Hunter: Beaststalker
Shaman: Elements
Rogue: Shadowcraft
Druid: Wildheart
Paladin: Lightforge
Warrior: Valor
If you roll against a warlock for his set item being a priest/mage you're an idiot. Can priests use the dreadmist set? Yes. Should they roll over warlocks if they need it? No.
Same goes for shaman rolling for beastsalker. They can use it but it's not their class set.
Blizzard didn't stick class restriction on the blue set items to allow other classes to use them in case the class isn't in the raid/group(or already has the item). This allows for more choices when possible.
Why do people keep rolling against warlocks? Because it is the only blue set that doesn't have a specific bonus to the class(that other classes don't have) wich the set is built for.
The priest's set gives +healing (only priests can use that)
The mage's set gives +arcane dmg (only mages can use that)
The warlock's set gives +shadow dmg (both warlocks and priests can use shadow spell)
This is blizzard's fault. They should've put a buff unique to warlocks

why dont people understand this. Warlocks need this set because they are the only ones that can upgrade it to the Deathmist set. Look that up all you "shadow" preists and retarded mages. You'll see that you guys cannot do that. Please, let the warlocks get the set if they need it, because unlike the rest of the classes, it helps them out later in the game.

I am a shadow priest and I will never change to holy due to PvP purpose.
And I agree with you that the Dreadmist Raiment belongs to to the Warlock class.
After all the priest got the Devout set which is superb for priest.
The only time priest should roll is if the Warlock already got the item and it is an upgrade for the priest.
If and it may happen often that if the Warlock has the full set or he/she already got item, then the Warlock should give others a chance, like me, 70% amor still green.
So priority:
1. Warlock
2. Shadow Priest/Priest
3. Mage
If you disagree, please let all of us share your ideas and comments.
I totally agree with this being Warlock priority first. This is our only one to get, as for priests can roll for two, so I agree that a priest should only roll for this if there are no lock's or the lock already has that item. I have 2 pieces of dreadmist and on the last 4 drops that came along in Scholo a priest rolled on it and won. What makes it worse is that they already had parts of their devout set so they are going to throw away the dreadmist item as soon as they get their part of the set for it. VERY annoying for that to happen imo
I realise that no one is reading this (probaby) since Im about.. oh.. a year too late! ha!
But over this past year Ive played a priest, warrior, rogue and now druid to 60. And every time I see Shadow priests come on here and say "hey I do dmg too!" I turn the digital page and let another tear drop on the floor.
I played a "healbot" for 6 months straight, and honestly I loved it. End game for an MMO is never for oneself. It is always the group, the whole, before personal gain. No one is going to get any loot out of MC unless a whole raid goes. The reasoning for having Discipline priests over Shadow priests is the same thinking in giving your MT all the Might drops first. Im not saying I agree with that, but its a similiar principle.
But, just for fancy, lets talk about Shadow Priest dmg. Lets take the priests most power Shadow dmg spell, mindblast.. add in a shadow word pain AND a mindflay. How much dmg is that at 60?? Maybe 1500-1700?? And it takes roughly 4 to 5 seconds to cast all that.
Mage: PoM, Pyroblast, Fireblast, Cone of Cold.. thats roughly... oh... 4k+ dmg, in 3 seconds. Not to mention that in BGs a mage can simply jump around, instant AE, and deal more dmg than anything else.
Fancy me if you feel my numbers are incorrect.
Since there are so few healing classes for each faction (3 per faction - 2 for Alliance since Paladins never heal!), Healing is the most valuable ability in either pve or pvp.
I lvl'd my druid using feral and now Im full restoration for BGs, and honestly, I heal the &%(*$*&@ out of my BG members.
Priests are not mages who can heal, no more than Paladins are warriors who can heal. Just like army medics, or army engineers, every class has a job... not everyone is supposed to run in and kill.
Kudos
So mages have generally been considered the dps masters of both pve and pvp (spec dependent), however i'm a 60 shad priest with both Devout and dreadmist gear and to be honest i much prefer the dreadmist in pvp, when ya getting smacked around by melee it makes it very difficult to let any spells off and to be honest a 350 damage shield is nothing. As far as damage is concerned LMAO i pwn mages in BG's. sure there is the occasional mage that will take me down 1 on 1 in pvp if they have the jump.
However, although most mages can let off some cruel dps, shad priests have some crazy advantages. EG. pyschic scream, shackle undead, mind control. Not to mention worse case scenario WE CAN HEAL OURSELVES and switch back to dps with nothing more than a mana pot. SO in conclusion i have to say in regards to pvp, I'd go shad priest with dreadmist gear any day.
P.S don't mistake me i have never out rolled a warlock for a single piece, nor would I.

Unholy, on your advice I did send an e-mail to blizzard asking about what class dreadmist is for. They said Warlock. I asked about shadow priest and they said a talent tree did not justify a different set. Also, your nuke isn't more powerful than ours, because:
a) it has a cooldown, so you can't repeatedly cast
b) It has a high threat rate. Cast that in a raid, you deserve to die.

I never get much thanks for any of it.
BUT ANYWAYS... this is really the only tier-1 set worth having for a lock... priest still have the Devout set... so all I ask is that you don't ninja it from a 'lock who needs it... that's all I'm saying.

It's 8am and I'm bloody tired atm. I was on a (mostly) guild Scholo run last night. I've got a 54 disc/holy priest and we were just mucking around doing a 9 man run. We had two warlocks, one who already had dreadmist gloves, other who didn't. I passed on it for him. The guy wasn't really that interested in collecting the set because he figured he could get better stats out of non-set items instead and was willing to give me the gloves. I told him to go look up these stats and start collecting instead of giving me the gloves :P
None of this means I don't want the set, I plan on going back to my old Shadow/disc build once I've collected most of the stuff I want out of instance runs, and I really would LOVE to have the dreadmist set over the devout for PvP. But it benefits warlocks more in my opinion. If a warlock needs a part of this set, there's no way in hell I'd roll against them for it. I'd expect the same if a piece of the devout set came up. The devout set will enable me to heal them better in the instance runs after all, but having the dreadmist set is something I WOULD like to have for when I go shadow again as I don't know if I'd be able to play enough keep my rank high enough to get to the good PvP sets.
Anyways, the dreadmist set looks MAD :) Devout looks kinda panzyish in comparison :) For asthetics in PvP, Dreadmist all the way :)

i have to say, i was intrigued by this thread... i read the whole thing. i have a few things i'd like to present. I am not going to call anyone names or type in caps and brag about what classes i think i own in PvP.
you may feel this post doesn't belong here, but after reading the hostile nature of a lot of these posts, i feel it is necessary. you may also not like how long this is, and to that i say... nothing.
all the classes are good. all the talent trees are good. everyone who tells shadow priests they need to respec to enjoy playing with others at the end of the game is making one of the most fun and useful classes in the game one of the most rarely seen/unused ones.
i'll say what i have to say about the dreadmist set first. to be fair, anyone who wants this set or a piece of this set should be allowed to roll. i am a guild master, and i will personally help any warlocks in my guild get the set if they want it. anyone going for the whole set gets priority over anyone going for a single piece. but shadow priests roll equal priority to warlocks if they are going for the set, too, and here's why:
when you look at the sets for all the classes at this lvl, this is the one for them. plain and simple. the shadow priest is so different from holy, that it basically IS a class on its own. they didn't have a set, blizzard changed the pet bonus on it, and presto! they now share a set with warlocks. i think the priest set should have been adjusted for them, but who am i?
the thing is, shadow priests should be allowed to do what they are good at: secondary healing, secondary dps, and throwing some DoTs around. they should be viewed as a combination of all 3 specific casters, but not the best at any 1 role.
putting a shadow priest in a group with a main healer works very well. putting a shadow priest with another secondary healer also works. a shadow priest and a druid/shaman/palladin should be ample healing for any group of 5. shields from the shadow priest work as a great flag for healing from the other secondary or from the main.
2 or 3 shadow priests in a group is a fun experience. in terms of healing and types of dmg, having 3 of them is just like having a mage, a lock, and a holy priest. they will heal, DoT, and dps, all at the same time (of course, limitless water, soulstones, and summons are out the window).
now, warlocks are a beautiful class, too. their DoTs are everything in instances where the battles are long and the hitpoints numerous. soulstone is a gift from the warcraft gods. and it's true, a demolition spec is about equal to the mage...
...but i want to focus on the shadow priest right now. it should be up to them whether they are functioning as main healer (by pretending to be a holy spec) or functioning as secondary healer (which will result in a lot of groups saying "um, nevermind"). i'll say another thing right here: if you are going to stick to your guns and be a secondary healing shadow priest, reserve mind blast for a finishing move only.
all in all, shadow priests are basically a class on their own. they are severely repressed and used not nearly enough. the dreadmist set is just as much theirs for the time being. either way, the set is for collection value - it's fun to complete a set, but this isn't the greatest equipment for either class.
finally, people should be able to play how they want. some people actually choose the priest class for the shadow tree and other players should be considerate enough to realize these talents function in all aspects of the game. the keys are knowing how to group the class and knowing how to play the shadow priest. believe it or don't, shadow priests are not just for PvP, they actually serve a purpose in instances/raids, too, even at high lvls.
again, sorry if you feel this post shouldn't be here. i'm putting it here so more shadow priests will see it and not be discouraged by what others have said. i'll most likely put a similar post in the priest forums.
i am hoping you read this and are relieved to discover you are not the only reasonable/logical-thinking person playing this game.

Lopithon,
I really didn’t expect you to understand my post. Your narrow minded, self centered “go play an Alt / don’t roll a priest unless you want to be a healbot” attitude was apparent before your riposte. It didn’t need restating that you expect everyone to do it your way.
I support my guild by being online to help everyone on my main character. I only play my alts (which are previous mains) and are now used for server downtime only. You sound the type to turn up for “Phat Lewt” instance runs to get your “EPIX” and do nothing for the guild the rest of the time. But that is speculation.
'bah, i pwn i do, all us priests rule, the rest of you are nub and couldnt do anything without us'
I think this infantile gibberish says exactly the opposite of what I was saying. Priests don’t rule. In fact Holy priests have a very dull time for a large percentage of their game time. What I was saying was that priests should be rewarded with a “well healed ty” or whatever because that is what most of them do it for. They live for the moment where they really make a difference and save the wipe. Often this follows a bad pull of a patrol or something similar. The rest of the time is just mundane and boring. If you don’t have the good manners for this then I have even less respect for you.
I have never said that the priest is more important than any other member of the raid/party, and I fail to see how you came to that conclusion.
I agree with ZombiePope entirely in both posts. Being a Holy priest largely involves hanging around waiting for an instance group to form without anything else to do. Grinding / soloing is out of the question as entertainment. BG is fun if guild, but other wise the perpetual “HEAL ME” shouts from random idiots in PuG BG prevents it being an enjoyable experience.
You claim that I went (and therefore remain) off-topic. All of my response to your original post was to contradict your narrow-minded views regarding the utility of Priests as a class, which is the erroneous foundation you used to underpin your views of rights to the Dreadmist Raiment. The crux of the matter is that you believe that priests should only play the role that you use yours for, which is healbot, and they, therefore, don’t have any right to the Dreadmist set.
There is no right and wrong in who deserves this set. There is no right or wrong in how you spec or play your priest. Any amount of bigotry doesn’t change this. If you’re a Shadow Priest announce your attention to roll on Dreadmist and relinquish your rights to need Devout. Resolve any disputes in a mature way.
We take two Shadow Priests to MC. I play one and we have a party of 4 locks and me. Shadow-weaving and Vampiric Embrace healing in conjunction with Life Tap produces astonishing damage over a sustained period. I wear all Dreadmist with exception of boots and gloves (too high stam, too low int) and get 6 piece shadow damage bonus.
My Warlock team know the value of a properly equipped Shadow Priest.
Immaturity ? Umm…… I’m 39 with three children and run a large business. Lets not talk about maturity. Only kids participate in name calling. Only stupid kids call people noob.

Did you check? Recheck? Good. Up until now, I've been reading up on why shadow priests have been rolling on our (Warlock) set. Basically, they love how we give them the shadow damage that make them feared PvPers (strangely, the only detailed reports of this phenomenon are only by their own kind.) They say that Devout is an overall pathetic set, which I am inclined to agree with. However, they use this as an excuse to roll on Dreadmist pieces. To them, the only way they can justify rolling on our set is if they have no other choice.
Well, shadow priests, here's your other choice.
Meet the Felcloth set. These items are made by high-level tailors. Although the set doesn't allow any bonuses to critical damage (I doubt there's a shadow priest with full Dreadmist anyway) it does offer a good amount of shadow damage. Let's tally:
Gloves: +33
Hood: +30
Pants: +26
Robe: +36
Shoulders: +26
Total: +151 Shadow Damage
Shadow priests like to mention that they're meant for PvP. That's the only reason why they chose to go down the Dark Side of the Force. Well, there you go. Now you don't have to roll on Dreadmist anymore. Leave us warlocks to our set. If the Warlock in your group/raid is gracious enough to let you have the Dreadmist piece, then I have no problem with that.
My point, though, is that shadow priests do not have to fight us for Dreadmist anymore. They don't have to argue over how the Warlock is a useless class and how the set is better suited to their own kind. They don't have to ninja anymore pieces from pick-up groups. They don't have to make wry commentary every time their DPS goes slightly higher than the Warlock in the group who stuck with Dreadmist.
Now they can go kindly screw themselves and make their own damn armour.
