Crabs aren't the best pets but that's because theyre well rounded. That -4% should either be +4% or no change at all. My crab has more hp than my carrion bird at the same lvl. My carb does slightly less damage but has a bunch more armor and has no problems going toe to toe with lower lvl players in Warsong gulch. I'm a lvl 19 hunter named Mihoiven on Azjol Nerub with a lvl 19 crab named Pinchy. Pinchy has killed many a lvl 15 or 16 player who underestimates the power of the crab. He also rps apart other pets like cats and raptors with his high armor. He's less effective against scorpids and turtles but I can scare beast them easily enough

Crabs CAN learn growl, i have a lvl 60 crab(OMG ppl are cheering at me everytime they see it) In the pet skill on ur spell book you can find it. and if you still cant, get a crab from desolace mine can
Crabs actually do hold aggro quite well. The only problem is they don't have a unique move yet like scorpids do. They're great pets though and have an easy diet so they're great pets for almost any situation. They're best at lower lvls before cats get their stealth moves. BGs are fun with crabs, just have it go and rip a spellcaster to shreds while you go do something else. My crab pinchy in 10-19 WG owns mages, locks, priests, and the occasional rogue with no problems at all

Ok all you who say crabs suck dont know what your talking about. But thats ok with me I havnt seen anyone with my type Crab yet. With that much armor I use mine as A tank in instances. I have or had Rake, Wolf, Owl, Broken Tooth and the crab has been the best for me followed by Owl. Just tried him in Sunken Temple and he can survive long enough for group to kill other mobs while it tanks at 52. I trained Broken Tooth with similar build giving him just dash as xtra and he can't do enough damage or survive long enough for me but he is great for casters. I wouldnt say its the best pet because there isnt one Blizzard pretty much fixed any advantages one rare or type pet may have they only really special pet skill is the 1.0 attack but its still the same damage over time. From what I been reading all other special chase speeds have been nerfed.
ps Im Survival and pet build armor health and resistance spending points in each at lvl.

ima lvl 30 NE hunter and i got my crab in Darkshore when i first started training and i must say, its a great pet, its got great defense i can send it in and it normally can take down anything that gets in its way, so before u start dissin on crabs, try one out for a while and u will know what im talkin about, check for me on the Malfurion Server the names...NeoJester

I'm a tauren hunter, and I tamed a Lv12 Shore Crawler at Westfall who I named Huey when I was Lv12. Seriously, it's been the best pet i've ever had. I tried cats, bats, turtles, spiders, crocs, scorpids, and recently gorillas, and none of them can compare to the might of Huey the crab!

im a 70 hunter on kirin tor and my crab (lvl 70) is named Jeff. hes an awsome tank and can dps rather good. His armor is 11k unbuffed and has about 6k HP. he can hit for about 200-500 and being a BM hunter with beastial wrath on hes a b%&ch to kill =)CRABS FTW. iv had him sence lvl 17 and hes the best pet if had. iv tried cats and crocs but nothing comes close. my friends prefer my pet over a pug tank, and my carb resists many magical spells cuz of his high magic resistance. so for all u crab lovers out there KEEP ON PINCHEN!!!
I have three pets, a cat, a wolf, and a CRAB. Scrambles, (LvL 45, I'm 45) is a wonderful pet. Crabs are somewhat mini tanks. They can definatley hold a mob. During rescue OOX in tanaris, scrambles held 3 sorpoids pretty fine. His armor is 6500 unbuffed, and bestial wraith is a VERY good addition to crabs. I also enjoy crabs because they add exotic and uniqueness to most hunters. You mostly see cats and wolves today. A crab is the last thing you expect in PvP or fighting. Why? People judge a book by the cover. Crabs are good, they also add a laugh to the game.

I dont see how people can agrue that crabs dont own. PROOF: this is my actual NE hunters name on Laughing skull and I only made this guy 2 have a crab as a pet (his name is SNow Crab) ANd so far as what I expected wus true, I'd be surprised and still am. My friends still say this pet sux, but I'll be the judge when I own them in the BG's, ;)

i have both a crab and a turtle. i like my turtle better, partly because i think turtles rock, and partly because my turtle does not use as much focus as a crab. he is always able to use growl or bite. a crab after 4 or 5 claws has no focus left. don't go saying turtles are bad pets just because you don't like them. i don't say cats are bad pets just because i don't like them. there is no best pet and there is no worst pet(except for maybe the sporebat with no abilities, but i might be wrong on that as well, i need more information on the account before i come to any conclustion).

Why would you get a crab when turtles have the same stats with the exception of no -% for health. Also the only reason to get a turtle/crab is for a tank and turtles have shell shield to block 50% of damage for a while.

Totally took down a level 40 warlock (with his voidwalker) as a level 31 hunter (with a pet crab) after he tried ganking me in STV. He used a healthstone and I used a health pot and I have to say it was an intense battle.

Um...if Crabs had the ability pinch, which would do damage and reduces run speed by 70% people would complain about the whole time. They'd nerf it instantly because people would complain to much....though it would be great, I think instead of movement speed it should reduce armor or add a bleed effect. IMO
Crabs should probably have a thorns like ability (if you do the draenei hunter quest one of the crabs will give you a thorns Aura - but it doesn't stay if you catch one after the quest is done)
Rank 1: Armor increased by 85 Melee Attacker takes 2-5 nature damage (lasts 30/45 seconds - 1 minute cooldown) Rank 2: Armor increased by 115 - Melee Attackers take 6-10 nature damage (lasts 30/45 seconds - 1 minute cooldown) etc etc They really need a crab pet after lvl 44. I'm lvl 60 and want one for a tank but dont know if I want to have it catch upto me so slowly.
I know what the crab unique skill should be - claw disarm. The crab just grabs and chucks your weapon, disarming you for 3 seconds. Cooldown would be 30s or maybe a minute if it got too bad but I think 3 seconds of disarm is fair.
Crabs are finally getting their own family ability in WotLK:
Pin (Rank 1) - 80 Focus, channeled, 20 second cooldown. “Pins the target in place, and squeezes for 20 damage over 12 sec.” Basically a Root (Druid) + Seduce (Warlock: Succubus) combination! Re: Crab by zavems, Score 0.00
So, I plan on taking my encrusted surf crawler to 70 with me. I know that the only special ability crabs can learn is claw, which mine already has. My question is, theoretically, would I ever need to tame another pet to get talents for my crab? Like bonus armor, health, or resistances?
