Both Succubus and Voidwalker can be used well for crowd control or at least taking one mob out of the fight in an instace for example.

I've found that i like using VW more for this since there's normaly no failure involved. Send your VW against 1 mob (marco this so it tells the party what mob) DoT that mob and join the others against the rest of the mobs. If VW is about to die, sac him and get aggro from that mob your self. If VW dies to often and mob is humanoid - use Succubus seduce instead - the downside of this is that that mob will get no dam, you cant DoT it, seduce can fail and needs to be cast again.

So normally i chose VW tanking over Succubus Seduce.

Just my oppinoin though. Beeing demonology specced as I am may help...

I went and got improved vw while leveling to 20 and once I had it, I had no problems.  I soloed mobs 2-3 levels above me with him.  Immolate, send in the VW, he'd pick them up immediately, curse of agony, corruption, searing pain, wand them to death.  Sometimes if I had 2 mobs instead of wanding I'd shadowbolt to end it faster.

The best thing about the game is learning how to take on a different encounter.  I like using this method cause I take no damage and I never drop below 50% mana.

I'm not going to bother using my succubus much for PvE until I grab improved Succubus.  She currently just doesn't do enough damage before she falls then I have to pick up the slack, also no Sac in case I pull more than wanted.

My imp, Ruptai, does too much damage, pulls all the mobs and they kill him outright lol.  I love him but when I'm handling multiple mobs, my VW can take the damage cause even the less damage curse doesn't help imp or succubus.

Succubus - no clue, just got her and I haven't used her really.

Before I got improved VW I would use my imp who was improved, to just burn down mobs.  But I would waste alot of mana and have down time because of it.  and sometimes he would die :\.

The VW was nice but as people have mentioned, I'd pull aggro from him and sometimes he was able to pick it back up but not all the time.  Once I got improved VW, it was hard for me to pull aggro.  And actually for those who do, then you must learn to play your lock right because it is the same in instances and high end raids, your tanks must keep aggro or you'll mess everyone up.  Slow dps at first, then let them have it.  My typical strat, CoA or immolate the target, then send VW in.  Corruption, searing pain, wand or drain soul or something else, even melee for fun.  It dies, Consume shadows, loot the body move on.  If I get two mobs, send in the VW first, put two dots on the mob he is attacking, then the other mob starts at me, and I'll fear and curse of weakness on it; as long as there are not groups of mobs everywhere.

Its the old high damage vs. superior tanking ability argument.

The "You could be saving 50% of your time by killing things quicker, opposed to being a pssy walking around at high levels with a blueberry." lame sentence (among others) is a good reason to discount what that poster thinks about things.

The fact of the matter is a warlock (or hunter) can keep on rolling longer in solo PvE with a superior tanking pet as opposed to a higher damage pet. The vast bulk of a Lock's damage comes from him/her, not their pets (no matter what pet you use). Sure, some locks & hunters play solo PvE with a high damage pet (i.e. locks: felhunter/imp or succ, hunters: cats). But that doesn't mean they are the right way to go when solo PvEing.

Pets not surviving as long=you not surviving as long=grinding takes longer. And yes, the VW has the ability to grab back agg when it breaks from the VW, just like all hunter pets do. Which means you will be getting beaten on less. Which means you will have more ability to recharge mana, less death, less runs from the cemetery, etc..

Felhunters are superior against casters (only). PvP, Succs are great. And in instances/raids (at least high level ones), Imps are the only way to go. The hundreds of HP their Blood Pact ability adds to a MT (and everyone else in a party) makes a gigantic difference.

Those that want to use a Felhunter in instance/groups (such as the poster 2 posts above) are either clueless or are totally selfish--"oooo, high Damage Meter/SW_Stat scores are more important to me than the survivability & effectiveness of the group".

Pick a VW if you want the best (in general) PvE solo pet. Use a Succ in PvP. And use an Imp in instance/raid groups.

27 demonology lock here, just wanna add my 2c.

Imp: Useful for blood pact and dps, not much else. Sometimes I put him on passive in an instance just for the stam boost, everyon'es usually happy with that.

VW: Ah, the Voidwalker. Personally my favorite pet for PvE, and a good tool for PvP. I like the fact that he can tank 1-2 mobs my level or 1 higher, because I've got improved VW. His sac shield has saved my life countless times, and can act as a wonderful trick for PvP. You have a VW out, spot some alliance, they attack, you sac void get shield and use Fel Domination to pull out a succi in 0.5 sec, so there you have a dmg shield (675 for me at 27, add that to my 1200 hp) and a succi out ready to kick ass. You'll catch a lot of people by surprise with this, and I beat a 33 lock at 26 with that tactic. My VW just happens to have 1666 health at my current level with the gear I have on.... he's an evil mofo =D

Succubus: Mmmmmm..... Heh, oh right. I like succubus for her great dps, can take down enemies fast in pve and pvp. I've had 20-24 alliance attack me and get taken out just by my succi and 1-2 dots. She is quite lacking in the health area though, she dies easily under focused assault. =(

Felhunter: I can't wait for this, I do a LOT of world PvP with a mage buddy of mine and I'd love to have a felhunter to sic on other casters, especially other locks that love to fear-whore.

Well, that's my spew for now. I guess I never really said much of anything, so I'll say now: Every pet has its own uses, the trick is knowing what to use when and how to best use it. The same goes for spells, classes, gear, etc.

voids are the best choice for soloers since of course you're a caster and you start blasting a centaur for example. The centaur starts running up to you and kills you.  Now try an imp.  Imp dies in 5 sec. What about Succubus? She delays the centaur with a charm...and dies in 10 sec. How about the ultra Felhunter? The centaur cant cast anyway so your pet dies in half a min.  All these times your pet dies the centaur runs after you next and kills you.  Void?  Then the void runs up to him and tanks giving you enough time to fire on a few DOTs and the occasional Shadow Bolt and the centaurs down!  If you arent in a group or dont want to be cause you dont have friends or dont want to have any then the void is a choice for you.  Although the void's spells are useless in PvP then use Sacrifice in a tough spot.  It helps alot.

At 48 that's just about 90 extra spell damage with nothing else i think(could be wrong). Then all you do is put 3 points in demonic resilience so he take 15%less of all damage! after that he becomes a super tank, and i gotta say my demon names are pretty awesome:
    Imp- Pipkin!LOTR much!?
    Blueberry- Kontast! Awesome!
Succy- Anglia! makes her seem even more like a stripper
FelHunter- dont quite know this but it's close to Ghrzzaman

And plus, to help shed some light on this matter, each pet has its own strengths and it all depeneds on how you play your lock that determines what pet is the best! I have my succy out for farming Soul Shards and for PvP because, since i'm demo spec, she give super damage abilities at 48, and i have the felhunter for spell caster because of the resistances and his spell lock, and i use the blueberry for instances and mob grinding and the imp for instances or party things for the stamina and extra quick damage! So if you're an aspiring lock, then how ever you play determines which demon you should use and if you need help, ask around the city or whenever you find another lock, most of us are really nice people and will have no problems helping out a little!

I now have a lvl 50 lock and I'm not too sure about my Felguard. I was in the Western Plaguelands the other day and I was fighting 1 and 2 +2lvl mobs at a time with my Felguard and handling everything just fine. Then a respawn popped up as I was tackling 2 mobs, then another mob gets aggroed and suddenly Im fighting 4 mobs at once. The Felguard does great damage but is quickly taking damage. I try some tricks of my own and soon find myself dead. Curious I return with my VW and intentionally aggro 4 mobs and even accidently a 5th and after a long bloody fight my VW and I walk away from the fight. The VW has a great sacrifice ability and can resummon in .5 seconds while I am still protected from damage. Is it just me or does the Felguard seem to do great against 1-2 mobs but badly against large groups???

part of it is that you have the master demon talent, which reduces your physical damage by 10%.
that, in addition to the void having ~3% more armor [at least mine does] than the felguard, and the fact that torment is an AoE threat [like growl for hunters], while felguard's "anguish" is singular to target.
therefore, besides cleave, you are only affecting 1 target with a "growl".
So yes, void does better with more, as when you start to heal the felguard, you take healer aggro, and they come to you.
        If that makes any sense.
I would use the void if only he could hold more aggro than I dish out. I'd say twice as effective of a torment would be nice. ugh.

I'm now a 66 lock and i have never really used anything but my VW. in instances i ask the other members which they would prefer, imp or felhunter. it's their choice. IMO, succy just plain sucks for instances and ive never really used her for PvE. y use her when i have a massive tank?

I'm affliction spec and focus on collecting +SD and +stam gear. with heaps of +SD my DoT's really hurt. send voidy in, cast unstable affliction, siphon life, CoA and corruption (and immolate if it's a really high level creep). life tap twice to give me more mana than HP then drain life til they equalise. by the time life drain ends the creep has broken aggro from the voidy and is takin steps towards me. in 3 shots from the wand it is dead and i have full mana and HP. move on to next creep.

for mobs send in voidy, banish any demons if they r there, CoT's for spellcasters, CoW's for melee. follow up with other DoT's (not CoA tho) then wand til they all die. if one breaks away from aggro focus fire on him and use any shadow trance SB if i need them. I ALWAYS use siphon life. with +SD I get bout 200HP every 3 seconds.

i very rarely use fear unless it's on opposing players or elites in PvE. NEVER FEAR IN AN INSTANCE!! NEVER.

    Imp: Choyal
VW: Jhazthang (such an awesome name, I love it)
Succy: no idea never use her.
    Felhunter: Kreenom (good doggy, /pat)

I sat down with a pen and paper, and did some math. VW, succ, and FH have the same mana pool and the same mana regen.

However, much to your dismay, the IMP has the worst of both.  IF you take the mana per second out of combat and mp5 while not casting and add that up, the imp fairs worse (I'm lvl 52, IMP: 912 mana/minute; others: 1200 mana/minute). It just seems imp is better mana battery bc of stam and its mana fills up quicker bc it's a smaller pool. Quite frankly, the void's ability to take damage, hold agro, and take casters out of battle (tank's armor isn't much good for magic), more than makes up for the stam loss.

For the affliction lock, get 18 into demonology:
    1. Demonic Embrace: duh! Also boost mana bc of life tap
    2. fel intellect (aids dark pact, not your own bc with 10k mana, you get 300, w00t),
    3. 3/3 void (for grinding and off-tank and sacrifice (bubble hearth FTW) )
    4. master summoner (re-summoning a whole new mana battery in 1/2 second with 90% less cost; add this with improved life-tap and first aid, you will never run out).
    5. 1/2 Healthstone: read online that party members can hold 3 different healthstones (from 3 locks with 2/2, 1/2, and 0/2 talent points into HS). The 2nd point gives you CoE, good for CC.
    6. Demonic Aegis: 30 +spell and 6% health regen from life drain, siphon life, heals.  +Spell affect life tap and dark pact. +Healing gives life, hence more to life tap, hence greater mana pool. Any healer would love to get 6% healing with 3 pts.

OR you could put your void in to wail at the boss with taunt turned off and just resummon him neways.  FH for that matter has devour magic, not bad.  Succubus sucks, why take a mob out of battle when you can off-tank it and kill it.

FYI, dark pacting does not put your pet in combat. Life tap only after you have summoned your pet once since fel domination is on c/d and don't use your life unless you to. This advice is for PVE.

Ok here's the lowdown, voidwalkers have massively high armour (around 40% damage reduction!) and have some great aggro keeping abilities as well as sacrafice which is an awesome fix for sticky situation and even gives you the extra second to cap that flag in PvP!

Voidwalkers are great for use while levelling and allow you to take on things of a much higher level than you while taking almost no damage! A great thing to do is wait 'til he's at very low health and then sacrafice him. He'll die seconds earlier but stop a lot of damage towards you.

Consume shadows is also very useful as it means you can carry on using your voidwalker without having to waste another soul shard, but remember to keep him high on mana or he won't be able to keep aggro well.

The voidwalker does not have much use in raids where there are tanks or in PvP (except for sacrafice) therefore these shoudl mainly be kept for use in the field. For a damage or PvP pet try the imp succubus or even felhunter, but don't waste this li'l buddy; do some quests occasionally and let him have his fun! =D

P.S. Mine is named Ormnos. FTW!
