That's fine if you like turtles better than bears any day for tanking, but keep in mind that there are many more pets that make just as good as (or even better) tanks. Here is my breakdown of tanking pets:

Bear: Nice health and better dps than other tanks, but lower armor. I think these are a good choice for beginners.

Turtle: Easily the best survivability of all tank pets, but VERY low dps and have trouble holding aggro because of this. Good for non-elite PvE.

Scorpid (My personal favorite): Excellant armor but not as much health as turtles. Stacking Scorpid Poison ability makes these an excellant choice for fighting elites, though.

Plainstrider: I don't know if these belong in any category other than miscellanious, but as far as tanking goes, they kite well because of their run speed.

Carrion Birds: Not as high of tanking stats as other tanks, but the Screech ability helps greatly for survivability. I have never actually tamed one, though.

Hyena: I have never tamed one of these because I always saw them as useless without their own special abilities, but they can apparently tank decently.

Gorilla (excuse any misspelling): Good for attracting the attention of groups of enemies and has better dps than most tanks. A good choice for fighting groups of enemies (obviously).

Boar: I'v only tamed one boar, but it was amazing (it was one of those armored ones from Razorfen Kraul). They have acceptable armor and health, but the best thing about them is that they can intercept a running target with their Charge and can grab good initial aggro with it, too.

Carrion Birds/Bats have Screech, an AoE debuff something like -100atp and does 20 or so damage.  This is a wonderful aggro glue to keep the mob off you!

Other than that, bears are IMO best cause they eat bread a mage can conjure, and my friend a mage and I grind/level together, so it provides me with an endless supply of food!

I don't know the amount of damage reduction 8% more AC does at level 60, but personally I like 8% hp more. I also think Shield Wall is pretty useless, so the only reason I would choose a turtle over a bear would be for looks and that will never happen because I think polar bears look cooler than all the skins turtles have.

Hello. If you're looking for this polar bear, his name is Bjarn. You'll find him in a valley before you come to Kharanos. Look for some metal scraps, because that's where he usually spawns. If not go farther, and you'll probably see him near two snow leopards. Just to warn you, Bjarn is an elite, so be careful.

White/polar bears: level 11 & 12 named in Dun Morogh and several level 53+ in Winterspring.

"But it wont do any diffrence since u wont need a tanking pet on high levels (u will need a damage dealer ex cat or a Boar and not wind serpent since any AoE may kill it in a few seconds"

Heh. I hope you are talking about PvP only. Anyone who doesn't think a hunter needs a tank pet in high level instances (or in fact, any instance group you are a member of) is misinformed. Grinding/levelling, there little better than a tank pet either. Some variations, of course: carrion birds (average--100%--stats in everything) are the best "tanking" pet type that have the AOE aggro Screech ability.

Even if you are talking about PvP, damage dealers/fast attack/caster-interrupt pets are good no matter what level PvP you are doing.

Finally, boars are _not_ good "damage dealers". They in fact do the same amount of damage as turtles--90%--which is the lowest of any pet type (bears are in third place with 91% damage, not a big enough difference to change much). Although boar's Charge ability does offer some PvP advantages. Cats and raptors do the most damage of anything (110%). Raptors have few skills compared with cats, though, so should not be considered a good alternative to them for pure damage dealing.

The only thing you should base your taming at is looks and level, as all bears have the same stats. Unless you're looking for a certain skill to give your bear of course, but that's a different story.

put your pet in the stable, tame other pets and fight with it for a while, then you will learn new ability. Then you can teach your main pet the new ability.

Not every animal have ability, use Beast Lore (learned fron Hunter Trainer at lvl 24) to find out before you tame a beast.

My last suggestion is to purchase both spots of the stable. Keep 1 good tank pet (such as bear) and 1 good PVP pet (such as a high speed cat), then you just go out and tame different pets to learn new pet skills. (After tame fight with the new pet till you get the new skill learned notification.)

You have 3 basic pet's:  Offensive, Defensive and PvP. The hunter tree's are the same way:  Beast(defensive), mark's(offensive), Survival(Pvp).  If you are a beast tree huunter you can improve a pet, meaning no matter what the pet is it's armor/dps/tanking ability is incressed more so than what the original stats of the pet.  Now mobs have a chance to resist Growl, so it's preferable to have a pet with high Dps when soloing.  I currently have a lvl 60 hunter(1-60 in 15d14hrs) using Echeyakee up until 60. At 60 I went with Shy-Rotam, current stats are 6k armor 80.3 Dps(unfreenzy), I've tamed Winterspring owls, bears and found that even though owls are a great wide tuant, the armor is not there to withstand the damage. Winterspring bears have the armor, but even being beast spec I can pull argo off the pet.  In endgame hunter's don't normally use pets only in certain cases.  In strat or Scholo, my pet has saved the party in more than one occasion.  If you decide on a bear, try at lvl 60 to solo a 60 elite, I had more hunter's amazed by the ability of Shy-Rotam to solo 60 elites when they use bears for the higher armor

pets end the end, need to be tanks.

The 2 best tanks for pets are turtles and bears

Bears are good because of the high amount of HP's, Turtles are good for their armor.

I have 2 pets now, one is 'The Rake' from Mulgore, a very fast attack cat (which i assume would be good at pvp)
also got Kresh, the elite turtle from 'The Wailing Caverns' (with a very cool shell shield power)

I'm wanting to get my hunter to 29 (he's now at 27, so a day or two away) and play some warsong gulch and alrathi basin to get up some honor, should i get the cat back out for pvp, or stay with the turle?

Cats are good for dps (damage per second), meaning that if you're going one on one with a mob/player, you should use a cat.

Bears are tanks, meaning they have either lots of health or armor, or both, and can take lots and lots of damage from multiple enemies attacking it at once. The reason why you would want a bear is if you're fighting an elite, or if you're going into an instance where the warrior, druid, or pally tank can't hold agro well. Your pet bear would be the co-tank. The bear will have more health than your cat, more armor, but it will do less damage (dps) than your cat.

What I would do is have both a tanking pet and dps pet. Just buy out an extra pet slot to store your pet at the stable master.

Notable bears for low level hunters are bjarn, a level 12 rare spawn bear that comes with claw rank 2, and his lower level counterpart Mangeclaw. Both are white polar bears.

bears are excellent tanking pets. but just in case your not a "bear" person then gorillas are awesome tanks too. they are both good starting out but even better when you add all the passive abilities to them.

okay. i dont have the cords either but im pretty sure the place is called the North Gate Pass or something like that. anyway go to the northern gate and after you go through the tunnel and your running by the fort house thing turn left and you should see some snow cats. keep going and you should see a little forested area and back there your going to see a polar bear named Mangeclaw.
hes lvl 11 and apparently has a swipe move that interrupts taming so be careful. try letting him beat on you until he swipes then start taming, its much easier.

Hi there bear taming huntards (I myself am one 8P).

Are you tired of pulling aggro off of your pet because he doesnt do damage but like the armor value the bear has to offer?

Well I have the solution for you!

                A CROC.

Thats right a croc, better armor no damage debuff for the price of slightly less HP. He holds aggro he takes hits and he does a fair amount of damage. To those who would flame me I only ask that you try a croc first and give them a chance.

The eternal debate over tanking pets rages on between the sides that say bears are the best tanking pets, and the side that says boars are.

Lets look at what they have in common, which makes these two species the most prefered types of tanking pet:
                ---------------------------------------

                1. High armor
                2. High Stamina
                3. Can eat any type of food, including conjured food from mages.
                4. Both are hard to kill, because of the extra bonuses of being a Beast Mastery spec (extra armor, dodge, etc).

Now lets look at the differences:
                ------------------------------------
                1. Bears have less armor than boars, but make up for it by having more stamina than boars.
                2. Likewise, boars have more armor than bears, but less stamina as well.
                3. Bears only have 3 skills: Bite, Claw, and Growl.
                4. Boars have 5 skills: Bite, Charge, Dash, Gore, and Growl.
                5. Both Boars and Bears found in the game have levels that range from 4-60.
                6. Tamable bears can virtually be found anywhere between levels 4-60.
                7. Tamable boars on the other hand only go from level 1-28 and then 49-60, meaning that there are no tamable boars for levels 29-48, also meaning no new skill upgrades to gore or charge.
                8. Bears do slightly better damage, meaning that they will be able to hold aggro better, solely based on their dps.

In my personal opinion, I would choose a bear over a boar, because stamina plays a major part in this game, when it comes to being able to take damage. The boar's extra armor will defend against physical attacks, but when it comes to tanking magic users, the bear will have a better chance of surviving, because magic goes through armor, and with the bear's extra stamina, it can take more HP damage.

Though the boar's charge is very appealing, having to go through lvl 30-49 with no new skill upgrades on my pet could be costly when having to fight mobs that have more hp/armor than the boar can dps away with their level 20 skills in timely manner. This could also mean that enemies will be more prone to dodging the low level skills, causing the hunter to gain their pet's aggro.

My final suggestion would be to try both before level 20, and be sure to stick to whichever suits you the best.
