"Dirty Tricks". clever. Very. Anyways, I think that gorillas are really good. But Blizzard should also add monkeys. I know that gorillas are monkeys though. They should add like non-combatant pets or something that you can buy in Stranglethorn Vale like Ace Ventura's monkey. Just like those little ones that crawl around you and sit on your nshoulders. That would be cool if they added that. I bet people are going to reply to this and say, "What does that have to do with anything?" LOL
Oh, to talk about the gorillas as this forum is about, I though of a cool ability. THey should be able to throw bananas from long range.

In my humble oppinion those that say the gorilla is not a good tanker is obviously not using the right talents and/or the right training.  My 60 hunter STILL uses his gorilla for PVE and even instances.  He's save the butts of my groups neumerous times in Scholo and Strat.  They can in fact tank up to 3 mobs provided you heal and have sufficient DPS to drop a mob.  In one fight me and my pet had 4 mobs even or higher level and managed to kill all of them... severly battered and beaten near to death my pet happily kept them off of me until the fight was over.  The AE is FANTASTIC to draw agro off of you from multiple mobs and with training/talents my gorilla has about 3700 health and 5600 armor. With proper skill and usage they can out tank every other pet type ive used (i think the only one i havent is the carrion birds).  PVP they do lack but PVE there is none better.

Ok so since this thread doesnt have much to say about PvP vs. PvE ill put in my 2cents.  First I would rather have a pet that has a fast pursuit speed and high attack speed in PvP. Why? Because especially in WSG you want to be able to catch people running the flag or catch up to people trying to cap nodes in AB.  Best pets for those things are cats, boars, and bats.  Attack speed in my opinion really only matters against casters.  Reason being is it interrupts and slows their casting time.  The fastest cat attack speed is Brokentooth.  He is a rare spawn in Badlands.  The only other pet in the game with that same attack speed are the ZG bats.  The other great thing about bats are when they hit lvl 60 they are so big with their wing span it makes it difficult to target the actual hunter if you have them on follow. *huge bonus for pvp* AND their Screech ability. It is an AOE scream that lowers the attack power of enemies in range by 100 at rank 4.  This ability can also be great for keeping aggro and if trained to do so bats can be good tanks.  *not the best but good*  Cats, boars and bats have Dash/Dive that increases their pursuit speed by 80% for 15sec at rank 3.  And lastly, boars are great for their Charge skill which charges an enemy, immobilizes it for 1 sec, and adds 550 melee attack power to the boar's next attack.  Now if you REALLY want to be effective in pvp and dont participate in raids, then grab one of these pets, and spec in Beast Mastery.

Now for raids all pets are pretty much pointless.  Why?  Because:  they dont really do any damage against raid mobs *plus their dps does not count with your dps so it does not help on the meters* and they die too quickly to even really help you survive.  My only recommendation if you want to bring along a pet to raids is to get a low profile tank. *low profile i mean one that isnt too big and gets in the way of targeting, like a bat for example*  You can have 3 pets, try getting pets that are effective for different aspects of the game.  Best tanks are bears, gorrilas and turtles.  With the best being turtles because of their very high armor and their Shell Shield ability.  Which reduces all damage your pet takes by 50%, but increases the time between your pet's attacks by 43%. Lasts 12 sec.  For my research and better knowledge I use http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/ to help me in my decisions for a pet.  I hope this has helped you guys in the least bit.

Thunderstomp Rank 4 Does Not exist unfortunatly, it would be a very nice Gorilla skill to be encorporated into the game in the future, but currently it's not a real skill. Note: Thunderstomp Rank 3's "bonus damage" does coincide with the hunter's attack power just like all the other hunter pet skills, so even though Thunderstomp Rank 4 does not exist, hunters can still boost the damage done by Thunderstomp Rank 3 simply by increasing the hunter's ranged attack power.

for those who hate on gorillas... i have been taming gorillas since lvl 30 i got the one in stv.. ungoro crater, got it. i have had cats and bears and boars. i am now lvl 62 and i still have my gorilla... he is one of the best tanks i have seen... he holds multiple targets thanks to thunder stomp. as far as aggro he can pull aggro off of a 70 warrior so i would say he is good there. spend you training points on natural armor and great stamina and he can take as much damage as  you can throw at him... set your gorilla to attack a target and sit back and fire away with your gun or bow of choice (depending on dwarf or elf). they can also make an effective off tank to keep casters and healers free from aggro. for you young hunters out there tame a gorilla if you like to be asked back to groups. if you like to solo he will save you money on potions and food. and i appologize to the horde out there all my experience so far is with alliance so i don't mean to purposly exclude you.

i agree 100% with Draconuss. i like gorillas because of the looks and they can take massive amounts of damage especially with all the Natural Armor and Great Stamina. and if you are a BM spec you have even more upgrades.

I just LOVE my gorilla. He is an awesome tanker. I got my level 33 gorilla when i was level 33 in Stranglethorn Vale. And im a Night Elf hunter with allience on the realm coilfang if u want to talk to me about gorillas. My character's name is Luckygurl also.

i have just gotten my gorrila from un'goro crater. the first thing i did was go to VC in westfall and solo it. i used eyes of the beast to round them all up, pu tmy pet on stay, hit thunderstomp, cancelled EotB and ran in, layed an explosive trap, then did a volley and BOOM! the entire room was dead, cept for a few runners.

great if u power lvl people, like guildies and the like.

(btw, i didnt even train great stam or nat armor before doin gthat, and he tanked great. king bangladesh is now in the stable for a while!!!)

Gorrillas are definatley my favourite pet, mine is lvl 49 now and his thunderstomp KIKS ASS, its great for keeping aggro on large mobs, i can just send him in thunderstomp and BAM, i just AoE till everyone is dead. and ther not just great tanks they do awesome damage. my gorilla dueled a 39 rogue and i didnt attack it was just him against my gorilla and he killed the rogue in about 3 seconds
even tho they might look a bit retarded ther my favourite pet over all :D

There are black and white gorillas, lvl 76 in Sholazar Basin, just east of Frenzyheart Hill in Northrend

with guard dog i dont have to feed my gorilla at all and it keeps aggro good as hell

Well it depends what you are trying to get out of a pet. Do you want dps (damage per second), do you want a tank, or a mix of both?


If you want dps, get a cat.

If you need a tank get a bear, boar, or ape.

Mix means spider.

normally I would laugh at the sight of the Gorilla charging down on us... but I didn't laugh when the Gorilla suddenly became red... grew up in size and ran through the crowd straight at me.

For the love of God, I had King Kong charging after me. He was the perfect height for the job.

You used to teach pets abilities. Now they learn them automatically. You've been reading outdated material, which personally, I wish Thottbot would filter out into a separate category. Just continue levelling. Don't worry about your pets other than feeding them and picking their talents.



Wtf man? All pets have the same health bonus untalented. Bear health = turtle health = cat health = ravager health = etc.

Edit: I emboldened 'untalented' so dumbasses could find it more easily. Also, by "abiliies", I mean the non-talent kind. Things like Bite, Ravage, Poison Spit, Claw, etc.
