sorry but your wrong. claw is neither sustainable nor is it more damage. scorpid poison is the single highest sustained dps skill pets get. wind serpent lightning breath is the highest non-sustained dps.

claw's damage is reduced by armor wheras the poison isnt, so it does have it's use
ur a noob. claw or poison? each thing has its advantages, and i may be wrong on a few things here, but get the general picture here.
claw-good: instant cooldown, more dmg, less focus, can crit claw-bad: can be dodged, blocked, parried, missed. reduced by armor poison-good: stops stealthing, stackable, can ONLY be resisted, not reduced by armor poison-bad: can be resisted, cooldown, has to be stacked to do any dmg, extra focus, can not crit i would prefer poison over claw myself, simply because as a marks/beast hunter i do the most dmg with physical attacks like aimed shot, and my pet does most its damage physically too. the additional poison is nice as its not reduced by armor, and since i beleive scorpids can use both poison AND claw, simply use claw on casters and poisons on armor classes and rogues, u gotta play against the enemy
Scorpid poison is awesome (its stacks & add in the serpent sting and you've got compounding poison damage). I don't need it to do stacks of damage - thats what i do - as a missile weapon speacialist, i just need my pet to hold them at range.
I'm sure poison pulls additional aggro on the scorpid (with growl, it's all good). That it stuffs up rogue stealth is a bonus I luv my scorpid
ill tell you the reason its good for a hunter,
it works perfect with viper sting if it keeps stacking your opponent will have a hard time curing the viper sting if the pet keeps refreshing his own poison so use if want to make it hard for your opponent to cure his mana draining
y cant you just have both claw and poison and use which ever one u feel like it? i just recently got the elite scorpid in Ulda and i think it rocks! i tamed another non elite scorpid by the race track just to get poison for my elite one. and claw doesnt cost any training points and that poison did to teach him. so i ask y not just learn both and use whatever fits the situation best?
This is my second hunter (different server) and I decided to try a scorpid. While the extra 5 DPS at lvl 1 poison really helps, I found that the tooltip was inaccurate. With 5 poisons stacked, i was getting 13 damage every 2 seconds. This nearly doubles my pets DPS. WOOOT TAKE ON TEH LUVKITTEN!!!
which scorpids give you posion? i tamed one outside of razor hill, it used posion on me but when i tamed it, it didn't have posion as a skill.
guys just remember to use beastlore u get it at lvl 24. cast it on an animal and look at its abilities b4 u try to tame it btw if u decide to tame an elite animal the stats decrease as if u tamed a nonelite animal (they just look cooler ^_^ )
I use poison all the time and freezing trap for adds. If you're being cheesy with freezing traps during dueling or pvp, switch it to frost traps to slow them down instead. If you have to freeze a target for any reason, turn off autopoison. You only have to wait at most 10s before the poison will wear off. The worst part about poison is getting two resists in a row and the stack falls off.
I tried some pets out in the barrens just for fun, with my lvl 60 hunter,
my lvl 21 scorpid did 30 dmg per tick with 5 applications of poison rank 1 funny thing also, he soloed a lvl 23 elite all by himself (no healing) <3 pet scaling poison is good in long fights and against high armor mobs and mobs higher than your lvl on a mob 5 lvls higher than my scorp., poison did 55% of the total damage
Scorpid poison is good for grinding, because hunters ranged attack can never "glance" like melee does against higher level enemies. So while you might not be glancing, your pet IS. This makes it harder for your pet to hold aggro with his melee. Scorpid poison can be resisted, sure, but it doesn't glance either.
So you can take a Scorpid to a higher level area and have it still do damage enough to keep aggro so you can grind faster. Also, I haven't gotten one in a while now, but does the poison damage scale with your attack power like other abilities such as Lightning Breath now? That could make it more viable.
Very few pet abilities get the pet's +spell damage. This is one. Look atthe damage it ACTUALLY does. You'll see that it far outshines the damage that claw ACTUALLY does once it gets running. This makes it great for tough or armor heavy targets (elites are tough, neh?) where as claw will quickly put down a softy. At 59, this ability was 5-stack ticking at 163. This was only up for about 1 occurance on the gatherers across from thrallmar, and claw would have them dead by the time 5 stacks hit. In the Ramparts, however, I was able to (on a 3-pull) CS the one the tank/DPS were to hit, trap 1, and me + pet kill the other shortly after the party started on the trapped one. This is a potent ability for any hunter with a decent ranged attack power, and that should be ANY hunter.
For he Beast Master, consider: Poison can't crit and trigger those wonderful pet abilities like an instant claw can.
I agree, the poison is totally awesome. As a surv/MM hunter, my pet doesn't deal nearly as much damage as it did with BM, but scorpids fix the problem particularly in arena. Like minime said the poison stacks for some great damage and it's very difficult to dispell out of, which leaves the hunter free to put up a different sting while the target's life ticks away.
I'd say you don't want this pet for 2v2, but you most definitely do for 5v5.
3v3 could go either way depending on place style and talent mix. Add Comment
