I love this pet, As soon as I got him I saw his armour, just under 600 (599) at level 11 unmoded. I think Scorpids are the best pets as they get a bonus to armour, and with their poison they hardly lose any damage due to their -6%. I've found that it can hold great aggro, and as long as I've had it it has been a great help.

I just got a Scorp. Reaver from Thousand Needles. My first scorpion and I'm impressed, I turned off growl since poison2 is enough to keep aggro. I'm going to keep him for instances and use my wolf for PvP. When I hit 35 will go for the elite scorp. in Thousand Needles.
Alright I'll preface this with a simple set of instructons for finding him.
Head west out of Razor Hill along the road. As you come to the bridge head south. On your left will be the brambles of a Razormane site, and on your right the river. you'll find two outcroppings of rocks (one those jagged spire ones you cant climb, the other that flatish boulders) he spawns and wander around these two in a meandering path that sometimes takes him towards the river. What I do is sit on top of the flattened boulders with beast track on and wait to spot him. It may take a few times if you do this at lvl 11 because of scorpion and raptors adds. But he is worth it. He is the fastest scorp and teaches claw 2 and scorp poison. (if you get in trouble you can run and hide within the spire rocks and nothing can get you found that out today) Reasons to get Death Flayer: He's got a wisked attack speed for a tank pet 1.6 I believe He has amazing armor. He looks really cool. And scorpid poison stacks, and it can really mess up enemies quickly. Tip if you are PvPing against a target that can cure poison slap them with a serpents sting as well .. they will have to remove all charges of scorpid poison before able to removing your shot. Neat hunh. I've been very happy with Death Flayer (Clampy).
I'm an alliance character hunter obviously. I want to tame Death Flayer, anybody know a safe way to get to him and tame him? Plus this place is right outside Ogrimmar. I'm level 15 though...

I tamed a lvl 55 Scorpid. He is now 57 and has 5900+ armor. By the time he is 60, he'll have close to 7000 armor if not more since he still receives armor up for leveling and I haven't trained his highest natural armor yet until lvl 60. He's gonna rock. He holds great agro and his poison stacks to 5 very quickly. He can take on his own level beast without any help from me. GREAT for farming undisturbed.

All right, after reading all the posts and looking on petopia, supposedly this thing is supposed to be easy to find. Yet I just spent the last hour looking up and down the river between durotar and the barrens (exactly where everyone says it is supposed to be) and have found nothing but corrupted scorpids. Does anyone know if they changed the location of him after the 2.0 patch? Or if not, then what his respawn rate is? Maybe someone got there before me, but still you would think in an hour he would respawn. Any advice would be great, coords where you might have found him, whatever you can give me. Cause I really would like to have this thing as my new pet.

I dont believe that a trainer is going to be able teach you Scorpid poison. I tamed a Scorp Hunter, from that i learned SP 3 and Claw 6. Now im trying to lvl up a Death Flayer to lvl 40 so I can teach if the abilities just mentioned.
As for as the Growl. You might be trying to teach it a Growl too high for it to learn. If Im wrong about any of the information above please let me know. Happy hunting :)
ressen the needler is harder to find but has more armor than death flayer at lvl 11 and hes a bat

if any one have a problem then you don't know how to use them. this little guy has poison and allot of def. i mean me and my scorpid that i got from 1000 needles was able to do all my quest even the red ones with mobs up to 5 lv higher. i mean i have a dps pet but when it come to tankers this guy was able to outshine most tankers that i instances with.

I posted oh so long ago about the amazingness of deathflayer under a different account name, but as i dont log into thottbot all that often, I forgot my account so here I am anew.
Scorpids are amazing, and their ability to stack their poisons makes them a realy evened out pet. While they supposedly loose out on DPS and gain in armor, they make up for with said poison, so they are actualy better then normal your "average" stat pet like a Hyena or Wolf. However now that all attackspeeds are equal (a retarded idea in my mind as it makes the fun of taming rare's pointless, though it is nice to not have to camp spawns for hours on end) Deathflayer himself is nerfed, and for sake of ease you might as well tame a normal scorpid and raise them like any other pet. it is a real shame because in my mind, it made deathflayer the best pet in the game, bar none, even over the dreaded Broken tooth, because although Brokentooth had 1.0 attack speed, he had nothing on flayer's armor and therefore tankability, which is realy what a hunter pet is for. Deathflayer WAS the fastest of the tanks at 1.6 and could deal more damage then any other tank because of that speed and his poison. HOWEVER, as a hunter, who has tried ALL of the original WoW pets, I do have to say that above any other tank, I choose scorpid everytime. While crabs are nice because they have the ability to resist some mage spells well, or did I havent check with BC yet, scorpids still pown them. SARKOTH!!!! by Joduv1991, Score 0.00

pets tend to get exp with u. for example: if u kill a mob that is grey to you but should have been like say yellow to your pet, your pet wont get any exp, but also if u kill a mob that is yellow to you but like red to your pet your pet will get exp equal to you. the down side of pets is that if you send it out by itself to kill a mob not only will neither of you get exp but you also wont be able to pick up the drop.
Leveling a pet is pretty easy. Pets require about half the XP that you do to get level. They earn about the same XP per kill as you do before rest bonus. The XP earned it based on the HUNTER's level. If the hunter doesn't earn XP (green, yellow, orange, or red) then the pet will not either. If you are level 70 and want o tame a level 1 wolf (no idea why, but you can if you want) you would need to take him to outlands to get XP (can you say aggro magnet? I knew you could). With rest bonus, a pet earns roughly 25% more XP (rather than double). !!!PETS DO NOT EARN XP FOR QUESTS!!! If you happen to be twinking a toon to the a x9 level, remeber that tidbit or you won't get your pet to x9 before you hit X9+1.

get cheap shotted by a rogue and dont have enough time to put hunter's mark up? put ur scorpid on defensive mode and his poison will prevent the rogue from vanishing =)
Hands down, Scorpids are the best pet in the game in my opinion. I hear from people about eh DPS of a cat versus the scorpids, but when you add the DPS of the scorpid, add in the fact that their poison stacks and ultimately will inflict up to 55 damage every 2 seconds in addition to their normal DPS, they defintiely outweigh a cat or ravager. Now add in the fact that their armor is better, and that means you'll spend less mana healing your pet against say, a high level elite, and you can spend more time attacking and using that mana towards arcane shots or stings. and the person before me is right, they work great against rogues cause the poison doesn't allow the rogues to stealth back out of sight right away. of course, most rogues can pawn a hunter in about 5 seconds flat, but a good hunter can use scatter, concussive shots, etc to slow a rogue down enough to get some distance.
Definitely highly recommended, i'm a 70 NE hunter, have had almost every pet their is, and i'll take my scorpid any day of the week. although, not having dash does suck, but i'm willing to overlook that cause they do such a great job.
