If you have a good-looking spider, you'll get lots of nice feedback.
Also, Spiders are great DPS. They have very high damage per hit. A BM Spider can outdamage most Non-BM cats.
Mother Fang is a levl 10 elite spider in one of the Elwynn mines if you didnt know. I would like to tame her as a permanent pet, except im an orc hunter so i have a problem. Has anyone gotten Mother Brood and if so is she good enough to try to get her?
I don't know about the attack speed (I'm guessing it's the same), but there's an abundance of spiders in Tirisfal Glades that look cooler than Mother Fang.

If you have a spider and find it very weak, this may be why.
A few types of wind serpent and spider pets have abnormal stats. Instead of the usual stamina, agility and strength scores, they have higher int and spirit (which is useless) and lower stats in the places that matter to the pets.
Currently, the spiders known with these caster stats are Lady Sathrah and Krethis Shadowspinner.
If you want your pet to be the best it can be, it's best to avoid these two and pick up another that looks the same. Krethis is easily replaced with the black widows in Duskwood and Sathrah with spiders from Ashenvale, Arathi or the Western Plaguelands.
(Credit to Petopia. More info on the Petopia caster stats page)
(Personal note: Spiders are cool, I wish there were more of the them used. The Spawn of Mar'li from ZG has a 1.4 swing speed and the Spire Spiderling from UBRS has a 1.5 swing speed, both are pretty nice.)
You dont learn the new bite spell from the trainer u learn it from taming pets that have bite skill. Look for a beast that has bite lvl 4 and then tame him long enough to gain the new spell; go out and attack some things with it and he will eventually gain the new skill... then dump the new pet and then just teach the new spell to your pet if u have the training points.
Look for lvl 30 beasts to tame... one of them will have it...
I've had my spider since level 10 (currently 41) can't even remember where he came from, I think it was Loch Modan. Back when I got him I had no intention of keeping him, and as I couldn't come up with a decent name I called him Bobby. Now I cant imagine ever having another pet, hell I'd feel guilty if I gave him up, its odd how attached one can become to a virtual spider haha.
you know, i think its strage that the spider i tamed (tarantula from redridge) has poison, when the spider i tamed (Spydeer <3) dosent have posion at ALL... just give it to them blizzard
there needs 2 b a new skill for spiders like web or seomthing that holds person who attacks it in place for 3-5 secs :)
but with like a 20% chance of doing it so blizz will actually consider it :P
I've suggested to Blizzard that they give the Spider an ability called "Dark Poison" - Which grants the Spider +30 Shadow Damage on each hit for 20 seconds. 2min cooldown. What do you Spider lovers think?
My other ideas are:
"Blood Craze" - Which Grants the Spider +50 life stealing each attack for 20seconds. 2min cooldown.
"Arachnophobia" - Which causes the target to run in fear for 4 seconds. 3min Cooldown.
"Cocoon" - Which causes the spider to spray web at its victim cocooning it and imobilising it for 2.5 seconds. 1min cooldown
What can you guys come up with?
I like arachnophobia :D probably cuz I have it D:
I realy like your idea's! So original :) I hope they will add it in Catalism :P I like the arachnophobia spell XD
I agree with one of the opinions above saying that Cats/Bears are way too commonly seen. I myself looked for a week to get Naraxis and I finally did. High DPS, Better then average armor and decent HP(This is all pre-buff) For a while I used a Black Widow Hatchling where it was the same deal just a little weaker then Naraxis. I think spiders are the way to go

They need Web and Poison.
2 things; First off: the LARGEST black widow spider model-which one-where to find
Second off, I have studied pets and all to find which ones I want, and I've noticed that Spiders are being downgraded. They have only one skill and cant even be stacked up with beastail swiftness or things like that. I personally think that Blizzard needs to revise how they made these truly awesome pets so that they can be used for more than just looks. We want some pvp skills (scorpids get posion, why not us?)
If you are seaching for a spider just on looks, you may want to go with the searing lava spiders in the Searing Gorge. They've got a neat molten look but it's just another spider. This would just be for looks though because there are a bunch of better pets in my opinion.
ought to be somewhat improved, I think that poison, webtrap and slowing poison (as in garlashi sting from Un'Goro) would be the best options. Also resistance to nature damage and cold resistance should be increased. Any thoughts?
spiders should get some kinda web spinning ability
that holds the target in place for like 5-10 secs
(gets stronger and higher duration at higher levels) and they should also get some kinda poison attack... and an ability that even lets them eat the target to restore health (only at high level though)
i was looking forward to having a glassweb spider at a higher lvl but because they can only get 1 actual skill (except growl) its kinda put me off i think spiders should have a web attack that roots the target in place for a few seconds or some kind of poison attack that stacks up to do nice damage like Scorpids get, or Spiderss could have charge or Stealth but sticking them with just 1 skill is not really right i mean there are pets like Carrion birds and cats that get 4 even 5 skills and then there are pets that dont even have as much bonus points in health armour and damage as cats and carrion birds that dont even get decent skills to make up for it. Its not really that fair Blizzard should make a skill called Shadow Meld for spiders which is like stealth and they should make a skill called Web shot that roots the target in place for 1-5 secs depending on rank of skill that would make pets a bit higher quality howether you would see them a bit more offen with hunters it would give the poor little blood thirsty critters a fighting chance in PvP and PvE
I guess Blizzard reads thottbot because there is such ability nowadays :)
I have a hunter on the tanaris server i got my spider at level 22 from the stonetalon area, just a normal green one, and with BM speced at level 41 my spider has about 3400 armor with all training done, he also has about 1800 HP, even though spiders dont have other abilities they still make awsome pets, ive also gotten comments on how awsome my pet is in instances.
spiders should not do a total web, that would overpower the spider or make the ability useless with a far too long cd.
since the spider dont have dash, it would be nice to have an numbing poison. slowing movement and attack speed of the target with x for y seconds. stackable like scorpid poison.
then we would have a nice pet to pop out in instances, when we kite. also good for pvp trying to get distance. but as log as the spider is slow and deal medium/high dps, it wont be overpowered - just usefull
Okay, first of all, if you want to play know-it-all, you need backup.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy_long-legs_spider
Daddy Long Legs are considered a true spider:
Another misconception is that the daddy long-legs spider is not a true spider. This misconception arises from the multiple uses of the name daddy long-legs. It is the harvestman (which is also called daddy long-legs) which is an arachnid but not a true spider. The daddy long-legs spider is a true spider.
It also says that they have venom:
There is an urban legend stating that daddy long-legs spiders have the most potent venom of any spider, but that their chelicera (fangs) are either too small or too weak to puncture human skin ... Either pholcid venom is not toxic to humans or there is a musculature difference between the two arachnids, with recluses, being hunting spiders, possessing stronger muscles for fang penetration.
I love when people think they know everything and don't even research shit about it. :) Have a nice day.
gore by bublboy, Score 0.00
Looking at the available pet abilities to spiders it looks to me that they dont get gore...
I wanted a spider so bad since they are such badass looking but then I realized they have no good abilities.
Why have a spider, when owls and wind serpents are exactly the same, but both get dive while owls get screech and wind sperpents get lightning breath...
Or have a cat that does more dps and gets bite and claw as well.
You really need to look at all the data.
How To:
0) Stable your main pet, as you need to have no pet on hand when taming a new one.
1) Find a MOB with the skill you wish to learn.
2) Tame MOB.
3) Fight with new pet until you see a command line saying you have learned a new skill, should be the one you have not got yet. Some MOBs have several skills, so check out beast lore first and your skill list. I recently caught one new pet and learned 3 skills from them, but the last took 10min to register.
4) Drop the pet, pick up your main pet from the stable and teach them the skill, if they have enough points and if they have not already learned 3 specialities.
The coolest looking pet in the game but it is rendered practically useless by all the bad hands it has been dealt. Look at this compared to other pets; no dash, no poison (can't figure this one out), no major outstanding attribute increase beyond others to justify this lack of skills, and then to add to this it only eats meat. Surely spiders should be able to learn other skills such as poison or even a 'web' spell that fixes players in place as has been suggested. Shame blizard!
In my opinion, there will be a high chance that Blizz would definitely make Poison Spit available for Spiders if many people recommend it. That Web idea does make sense also, since spiders already do that when you fight them.
I like the poison spit idea, only have it as a buff like a rogues poison, spiders FTW, woo
Besides the Worg pet The spider is the only pet that has a matching small one..
only reason i like spiders is because they look cool and the dmg
Are spiders very good tanks? If they are were would i get a good spider (i have a lvl 11)
I think there good tanks. But, I am just a eight year old girl.
druid cow wat server or realm r u on
i'm a new hunter so i have a question..
can a spider learn anything besides bite? that i learned from another pet?
like..poison from a scorpid or something like that
Web Spin- traps the target in a web 4 10seconds
Poisinous Bite- Bites the target taking Nature Damage over time
also u ever notice there are more spiders than ANYTHING in WoW???
I agree about there is to many hunters with pets that are common, but we shall not forget that Blizz made it very difficult for hunters to pick pets just because of the "looks".
Now, when the latest patch came it made it possible to have more pets due to more avilable stable spots.
I tamed Terokkarantula - the enormous elite spider in Terrokar, she looks awesome even that she ofc not keep the size as tamed. But just the look of the spider has a cool effect in pvp and also among other players.
Never had so many positive comments in a short time with any pet before, and I have had only rare ones.
Think the spider wich now is named "Wireless" is gonna be my favourite above the rare bat "Rezzan the needler" I had before.
Conclusion, BM-hunter @ Magtheridon...
So a friend told me that spiders made really good pets for hunters because of the snare ability. So I got one.
Unfortunately I did not realize that I am indeed Arachnophobic. Perhaps because I'm badly allergic to spider bites, even ones that are not considered to be dangerous.
I can't even listen to my spider walk without it giving me the creeps.
However, I'm not going to abandon it. It has already proven to be very useful. Hopefully with time I'll get used to it. Heck maybe it will help me get over my fear of the real thing.

Ive got a spider, and I want to know if everyones spider is always getting hungry...seems I have to feed mine every 30 mins or so (I have a cat on another toon and he doesnt need to be fed nearly that often). Plus, everytime I log on, Spidey's happiness is down more than it was when I logged off.
I am a level 24 Hunter on Bloodhoof named Dominicxx. I just tamed Mother Fang, a rare spawn green spider from Elewynn Forest.
They added the ability Web which immobilizes the target for 4 seconds.
Along with this, they added a pet talent tree, and ALL spider's have the [Cunning] talent tree, AKA the PvP talent tree. Spiders are in fact THE best pet for PvP in WSG from what I can tell, and they make it GREAT for a quick get away because of their root ability. They can now learn the spells Dash, Wolverine Bite, Roar of Recovery, Bull Headed and Carrior Feeder through the talent tree. I will list what these new abilities do below, in the order of which you get them,
but three are end-talent tree abilities.
1. Dash - Increases movement speed by 80% for 16 seconds, 32 second cool down. If you spend two talent points, it will become a 16 second cool down. Costs 30 Focus.
2. Carrion Feeder - Eats a corpse, gaining happieness and health. Basicly like the Undead racial trait Cannibilize, but for your pet. 30 second cool down on this one. Costs no Focus.
3. Wolverine Bite - Attacks the target for 100 damage, midified by pet level. This attack can only be used after the enemy dodges an attack. This cannot be dodged, blocked, or parried. 10 second cool down, no Focus Cost, great abilty.
4. Roar of Recovery - Restores 30% of your total mana over 9 seconds. 6 min cool down, no Focus cost, 40 yard range.
5. Bullheaded - Removes all movement imparing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your pet. 3 min cool down, yet again, no focus cost.
Also, all these numbered abilites may take some time to get, because your pet only gets a talent point per 4 levels. So, the first of these talented moves you will get is dash. For more info on all of these abilities, and the actual talent trees, just go to Hunter Pets, and click on Cunning, Tenaciaty, and Ferociaty. Hope I made everythign cleared up for everyone. Have a good day, and I would also like to note.
FOR THE HORDE!!!
I'm a level 49 Hunter, I'm looking for a spider of that level range, would anyone happen to know where I could get one?
anywhere just look for the skin you like...all pets will automatically level up to -5 of your current level if they are lower than 5 levels from you....
it's simple, THE SPIDER IS THE BEST CUNNING PET AN THE BEST 2 USE IN PVP.
Posted by Funtobhunter of Dawnbringer.
Oh yes and just in case you ask it is because of the dash ability + web ability makes the enemy stop in its track so you can contently blast it to death =)

wat is the best lvl 26 spider pet i only find low lvl that i dont feel lik lvling up lol
Anyone know where a good lvl 45-49ish spider is. I want one for my 49 twink hunter.
I had same problem but I used that amazing search thingy in upper left corner and found Greater Lava Spider, lvl 49 in Searing Corge.
all ferocity pets that are carnivores should have an ability to eat the corpses of certain types of mobs to restore health every seccond(s). that would be killer if your pet in BGs just took on a few oposing faction members and is low on health and you see some more players running towards you so your pet would have the extra health to get through the battle
The Web ability from this pet is definity the best thing in the world for Pvp,its 20yd range so ur pet doesnt even have to be there to get someone down like a FC(flag carrier) it last for 4 sec. However these pets don't have any diseases acids or poisens, when you fight them they do but tamed they forget how for some wierd reason, i'm using mine for pvp and questing just becuz i like the little dude, however i recoment having at least this pet stabled for pvp becuz no other can even compare, alot better than having ur little kitten prowl every 20sec while ur running.
