My voidwalker died and his boar did too but yeah just stay back when he spins and call your pets back and youl do fine.

Herods shoulder has dropped 1 in 6 times with me and ravage dropped 3 times in a row also i got legs and helm once. It depends on your luck i really want the shoulder.

Just to clarify, the Trainees are NOT elites and are RIDICULOUSLY weak. They die in just about 1-2 hits.
Here's an interesting tidbit that I bet no one here knew that I got to find out while farming for my Scarlet tabard: Herod is immune to Thunderfury's proc.
So, you know, for all you level 30-40-somethings out there... make sure your tank knows.

After watching a video of a 57 Resto Druid Soloing I decide to try. Im 52 full feral spec atm. It was very easy. Get him on the main floor and STAY away whenever he does the spinning move with his blades. If your a druid or a pally you have a decent amount of time to heal. (Only had to heal once myself) Any strong melee specced class 50+ should be able to kill him fine. If your wear cloth I'd stay away (unless your a frost mage) ;o)
Oh yeah...there is a wall on the main floor (straight ahead if when your coming in the room). Afer you kill him run over to the wall...the adds wont see you and will run down on the main floor. Just AOE spam and ur done. Each one only has like 100hp.

They are easy as hell, just switch your pet to aggressive & they would all be dead before they even get to you. A volly would wipe them all out in seconds also.

You CAN fight up to Herod and kill him, then wait for him to respawn and kill him again, but his respawn time is over an hour, so it'd be better and faster to leave, reset the instance, and start over.
I hate all these people trying to make themselves look bad ass on forums saying, "yeah i soloed sm arm at level 12 it's so easy!" god just admit this guy is really hard, but beatable with a good group.
I don't doubt it at all. If you know your class/what you're doing, you can pull off some mad shit in this game.
I could solo arms/cath with my rogue @ 48. arms/cath with my Warrior @ 49. GY/Library/Arms on my pally @ 37 (skipping houndmaster boss). Many elite quests on my warlock that other classes couldn't while still red/orange. Killed 17 dustwallow marsh murlocs in 1 pull on my mage @ lvl 40. Soloed the rare spawn elite in mara on my rogue @ 48 & my hunter @ 46 for his phat 49 bracket lewt.
There's just a few things off the top of my head. Rather than calling bs read up on this stuff to find ways to do it yourself.
Try walking through closed doors if they won't open, it's happened to me before. Just walk up to it and through it. It's actually a bug/lag that 'procs', if you will, sometimes, but not usually.

I'm a 41 feral druid. I just needed Herod to finish my quest and couldn't find a group. So I stealthed in up to his door. killed the mob across from the door and the pat. (I died twice cause they ran and aggroed other groups but I got those guys down.) After I rezed and stealthed back to his door, I stood as far away from the door as I could to change form to open the door, than changed back to Cat, and stealthed in to his room. I soloed him. When he went into his spinny thing, "blades of light" I backed off and hit my Instant HoT and Regrowth, (a 2 sec cast, its a HoT with some upfront heal) and switched back into bear to comtinue the fight. I had to use a mana pot, and I had to inervate myself but I got him. I had time to switch to Cat form and stealth while the little guys ran in. I went to the point farthest from them, changed back to druid form, they didn't aggro. So I set up hurricane, and it killed a bunch of them before they canceled my channeling, I switched back to bear and killed the rest easily. They really don't have hardly any HP. Too bad he doesn't drop anything for druids or i might just farm him. At least until the druid nerf patch comes out. /cry

I dont understand, Ravager sucks for hunters.. cause hunters need stats, thats all they need. And ravager got no stats! So hunters should rather use a green or a other weapon with stats (agi/AP/stam/int) MUCH better than ravager!
Thank you for your support,i have a 51 hunter so I know the importance of stats instead of an extra attack. My hunter goes into melee one,at the max,times in a fight because i use my pet with skill. She was trying to outtank our warrior with the ravager too,which got him pissed off

The only real dangerous thing is when he does his whirlwind move. He'll scream, "Blades of Light!". You then have about half a second to move away from him, about from the middle of the room to the stair. If you have a melee pet or minion, make sure to get it out of the way as well. Make sure the tank gets Herod focused on him, or your healer will probably get owned with a few swings of his Ravager axe.
I believe Herod is immune to magic spells while he is spinning in whirlwind, but not immune to normal ranged attacks. (As a hunter, I was able to shoot him with auto-shoot but my Arcane Shot always fails.)
After he dies, around 20 or so Scarlet Trainees come in and rush to attack. Just use any AoE spell (Explosive trap the entrance of the room when Herod is almost dead), and they die within seconds. They have a really, really small chance to drop the Scarlet Tabard, which is a cool tabard that is red in color.

(pincher if you are a rouge 50+) first if you are a rouge steealth all the way through to last part kill the 3 people standing around then go into herods chamber kill him get drop kill all the shit faced level 30 people who think they can kill you log out still in chamber go on another guy/girl on your acount for 1 hour go back on you rouge kill herod and shit faced people do this 10 12 times you have made around 20g
for eny other class just kill herod and shit faced people then log out wait 1 hour then log on and you can kill him easy to own eny main his drop sells for around 2 g

You don't even need to kill those 3 guys. Just sap the 1 closest to the door & then stand as far back from them as possiable while still in range to open the door. That's on 48 rogue, so 50 would work too. :-)
After doing Armory for 2 days now (I want some of his stuff for my enhancement Shammy)
So far I have only got the leggings and the Scarlet belt, everything else was won by other people :(.
Anyway, here is my strategy, I'll try to cover everything.
When you first reach Herods room, make sure everyone is full HP/Mana, buff everyone too.
Healers need to stay very alert, this guy truly hits like a truck.
Have the tank jump down to Herod and let him engage the fight, other DPS classes shouldn't start doing the damage right away, let the Warrior (or any other "tank") do some threat Damage and then start doing the damage. This is because Herod really hits heavy, Rogues should stay alert and don't grab his aggro, because the healer will quickly run out of mana for you.
Herod only has 2 abilities, one of them is really important and you should ALWAYS alert your group about it:
- When he yells "Blades of Light!" EVERYONE stop doing damage to him and back off from his range, he will engage in a spinning move that will eat your HP like a fat kid on pie. Take advantage of this though, he will stop for a few seconds for this attack and as long you are away from him, you can use bandages and save the healer some mana.
His other ability ( you can't really do anything about it) is when he yells "Light give me strength!" he will enrage (something like Blood Fury) and do even more damage, he will only use this later in the fight so healer pay extra attention to this.

Tips:
Stay in the ground, don't use the stairs, healers might miss the healing spells because you are running around like an idiot.
Hunters are the only ones that can damage Herod when he does his spinning move, Arcane shot won't work but the normal Auto shoot will, so use that.
Don't forget to call your pets when he starts his spinning move.
Make sure you have potions ready, early healers might run out of mana and that's never a good thing, use bandages when he does his spinning attack as well.

Herod has over 10k of HP, and he his partially immune to fire/frost/etc. It will be a long fight.
When you finally down him, loot him immediately and roll fast, the room will get flooded by lvl 20 peasants who only have 100 hp, but if your group struggled against Herod, they can sometimes hurt.
Either way they are quite easy to kill, just concentrate your group in one place and use a AoE. They will die fast enough. Check every body because one of them usually has a Scarlet Tabard, for all you fashion freaks out there :).

I have a weird question, I have done SM armory about a 1000 times it feels like and tonight while we were killing herod a mob of about 4 elites showed up in the middle of it. It was not the 20 easy ones that show up at the end it was just a random spawning mob. Are they a rare spawn or could have a level 31 in our group may have agroed them from far down the instance?
Happened to us as well, about 4 myrmidons ran in from the door instantly after we attacked Herod. Never happened to me before. We wiped and came back and they had all respawned. We had to do the whole instance from the beginning. :(
Luckily it didn't happen again.
Yeah, I've seen this too. Can't remember exactly what triggered them. I think... they spawn outside when you first attack Herod in a line of 4 across the hallway & stay there til he's dead. Someone may have gone outside the room & agroed them.
What happens is this, While fighting herod, if anyone tries to leave, mobs will spawn and attack you, thus making the fight more difficult, so, make sure noone tries to run away, or you'll probably wipe
update, 4 mobs will spawn, if you leave the room, they don't automatically attack you, but if your level then 40 you'll probably aggro them anyway
38 Holy Pallie 3k Mana (90%cloth/healing gear)
39 Prot Pallie 2.5k HP
We just downed Herod on our own.
was a long slow fight there with carefull pulls. Most we ever fought were 3mobs at once. We always pulled each mob far into cleared area to stop runners from pulling extra adds.
Using Judgement of light and Judgement of Crusasder, we worked our way thru Arms. After each fight we rested, mana'd up and recast Blessing of kings and Wisdom on each other.
When we got to Herod we used Judgement of Light and Mana. Fight took longer than 5mins cos kings and mana buff wore out.
Each time he spun, we ran back and healed then ran back in.
the joy of finnally downing him was...... lol out of this world. his should item droped.
After we downed him, we both shielded and then cast concescration to kill the adds that came.

Definitely, you could, just have your pet tank him.
I managed to solo him as a 51 resto shaman, but barely. I needed to use a superior mana pot and he got all my earth shield procs before he enraged. But just have your pet move out of the whirlwind and keep shooting him and heal your pet.
shamys get to wear mail at 40 so he proberly did need it n u get plate at 40 aswell.... so u shoulda gave it to a hunter or sham who would keep it for abit
well uhh my friend and i just 2manned him (32 pally and 37 pally<-tank/me)
all we did was tank and spank, then when he screamed at me i moved 5 yards away and used flash of light thats about it

due to patch 2.3 his level has been changed from 40 to 37 (to make the level of the instance more narrow apparently). i would just like to point that out if anyone would like to change his description (i don't know how to).
is the hole scarlet set, hes shoulders and the berserker helm good for lvl 39 twink warrior? i got whirlwind hammer...

I have 3 of them on various toons.
Was able to 3-man Herod, Rogue was tanking(me), lvl 42, lvl 41 priest healer, and a 39 mage. Just popped my evasion when i hit low on health.
Used to be a twink. SO that might have helped a bit.
Mainly just want someone who can take damage as a tank(what else are they good for?) and have party members that are smart enough to move away when he does Whirlwind.
hes not too hard. Ive had several runs thorugh sm arm...ravager never popped up once, got bout 4 shoulders 3 helms 2 scarlet legs. and i think thottbot's drop rate is off on the discription of herod. it says 16% or so when its 2.8% i believe. when i read 16% i had renewed hope :). only to be crushed :(.
herod is pretty easy but if your not expecting it the mob can be a bit of a pain especially to healers .
i got 3 scarlet tabards on my first go but it says your only allowed take one.as long as u kill him quick hes fairly easy
i did it with a lvl 52 everytime he tried to use blades of light i stunned him with hammer of justice
u only have about 1/2 of a second to do this
Me (lvl 43 Hunter specced hybrid for lvling) and a lvl 41 BM hunter took out Herod pretty easily, But i had to Feign Death when the trainees came because my net flaked for a second and my cat brought em all to me and i got aggroed. All in all an easy battle, 2 hunters around lvl 39-40 can easily take him out just the 2 of them, he spawns down at the bottom of the room, send your pets in and remain on the balcony and just fire away, just dont use too many aggro shots like arcane shot and stuff, serpent sting and one or 2 maybe is good he aint too hard
i waited 2 hrs and he dosent respawn

Very easy now, Soloed him/arms on my 38 prot pally. Seal of light/judge light up the whole time. Save mana for heals while he's doing his aoe, still has a lot of hp so save that mana for heals & don't unload dps spells.
