This takes tons of time geting your rep up and most people who are intrested in getting a slighly differnt mount will never complete the quests enough times to even get friendly with them.  Seeing as who the first quest you can get from them requires 5 of two differnt types of meat from the local bears and Chillwind creatures and the drop rate for these is about 30% id say.  you have to that quest about 30 times before you can even get the second quest, but once you do that the second is probably the easiest to do so stick with that one

As of Patch 2.3 at least, the first and second quests are now worth +250 each.  The third quest is qorth +350.  They use to be worth a lot less.

The first quest, Frostsaber Provisions, is available at level 58.  Collect 5 Chillwind Meat and 5 Shardtooth Meat off of any Chimeras and bears in Winterspring.  I think the drop rate is 1:5 or so.  Better for the Chillwind in my experience, but that may just be that there are more to kill.

The second quest, Winterfall Intrusion, is available when your reputation is halfway through Neutral (1500/3000).  That means the first quest must be done six times before the second quest becomes available.  You kill 5 ursas and 5 shamans in Winterfall Village.  Shamans are found in the lower and upper areas of the village.  Ursas are found in the upper area of the village and looking down from the mountain behind the village (that is, to up the mountain to the south of the village).

The third quest, Rampaging Giants, is a group quest where you kill the elite giants in the southern tip of Winterspring.  Worth more rep than the others (+350), never bothered with this one.

Its a shame. If blizz made the grind a bit longer (for the sake of making it truly unique) and allow horde to do this same quest im sure it would benefit everyone.
Or have a Alliance/raptor or Wolf grind with unique skin.
Wish blizz would wake up and realize just how important having a unique amount is. Either add more rare mounts added as drops, or add more quests like this one with different results.

So....20 minutes per quest at your estimation for the first 20 or so turn ins.

      20 * 20 = 400 minutes or over 6 1/2 hours of play time.

To get to partway thru neutral.

The kill the winterfalls is much faster, agreed, as you need to find and kill but 10 wintermaw furbolgs (before the other 10 or so people at the same village grinding timbermaw rep tag them that is).  Then you need to ride back to frostsabre rock again.  Each time.

So then, say 15 minutes each quest for the furbolgs (including a straight line ride without interruption and no one else killing in the village)- a very low estimation, but whatever.

      700ish turn ins * 15 minutes =  175 hours of grinding.

If you do, say, 4 hours a night on this, that will be 44 days/sessions of playing just to grind out this reward.

That is low-ball approximates of course.

I just don't see it being worth it.

In nearly 200 hours of grinding, I think I could maybe make up the 900 gold or whatever for epic ride ability (heck...mining thorium veins and random drops/vender trash for that long in winterspring might do it, let alone dungeoning.  Skinning or herbalism would also do the trick for that long I think).  Then I get to choose from the variety of mounts out there (this just gets you a white cat.....which looks good, but may not suit everyone).  At least would not go out of my skull with boredom.

You have to do any of the three turn in quests 840 times.

It is confirmed that you don't need to be exalted  with Darnassus to get this mount. As you can see im a human warrior with only revered reputation with Darnassus.

      Some points:

You get your first repeatable quest (Frostsaber Provisions) quest as early as lvl 58 ... not 60 as someone indicated above.

You get the second repeatable quest (Winterfall Intrusion) when you reach 3000 rep points (1/2 way through Neutral)

You get the third (and last) repeatable quest (Rampaging Giants) when you reach Honored status with the Trainers.

Getting your "Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber" will continue to be one of the most unique and rarely-finished objectives in the game - even though they've increased the faction reward for turn in on the quests.  You do not get faction per kill - like in other faction quests.  You get faction by completing those repeatable missions.  The chillwind and shardtooth meat still drops randomly from each beast and the Winterfall Furbolg camp can be heavily camped at times.

You will STILL need to WANT this mount bad enough and put in a load of time to reach Exalted with the Trainers.  I set my mind on it, forsaked playing in the expansion for it and am quite happy now that I have mine!  I started at 58 ... finished at 65.  It would have taken MUCH MUCH longer of a grind going through Revered to Exalted if they hadn't upped the rep rewards in patch 2.3.    Still ... many people will not do this - and this is why it will remain relatively rare to see the mount in-game.

I really don't see obtaining this mount in one day as others have claimed. Given my record time with an epic mount as a level 70 kitty druid from start to finish for the winterfall guys is 8 minutes, it just doesn't pan out. Eight minutes is lucky if nobody else is killing the mobs, and shamans spawn in the lower part. More than likely though, someone else is going to be there killing them, and you will have to wait for respawns. OK now think about my best run of 8 minutes, most of that is running time, with only a few to kill the furbolgs. Now considering at BEST 8 minutes per quest, you still have to turn in the quest 174 times to get to exalted. That equals out to 23.2 hours. That is assuming best case, and doesn't factor in the 6 times you have to turn in the provisions quest, which some I could get lucky and do in 10 minutes, other times 45 minutes depending on the drop rate. And yes, other people can be competing for bears and chimeras as well, so that can throw another wrench in the speedy one day mount theory.
Yes I know humans have increased rep gains, but I still highly doubt that anyone could do this in one single day, unless their server is almost empty, and they have absolutely no life or responsibility.

One thing to note is that at least the drop rate for the meats can still be really horrid, which should still filter out the wussies.

Myself, I am part way into honored after two days, amidst mining thorium/mithril/truesilver, BS'ing with friends, running to get food IRL, going to the movies, sleeping, sending goodies to alts, helping clueless friends with quests, disenchanting junk green items I picked up, getting Kara keyed, that sort of thing. So in my two days off, I managed to do my normal guild things, real life things, and gained over 9000 rep. Pretty sweet compared to before.

Just a side note, it makes it easier on all alliance if you run into the Winterfall Village and another ally is killing them around 50's to invite them, they are after the same mobs. Plus if multiple high levels are doing the grind, don't fight over the mobs, join forces.
Just watch out for the horde doing the single quest, as they tend to ninja the mob from you just before you attack them.

I can imagine that due to the rep increase, this could turn ugly on a pvp server. I don't need to explain why.

I am waiting for hundreds of people to start this rep grind, but hopefully the crappy drop rate of the meats still weeds them out like it did before.

Just restarted doing this quest after figuring out how long it would actually take me to finish it. The worst part by far is the first 1500 rep. The drop rate on that meat is horrible. After that though it's really not that bad. The Winterfall Intrusion quest is a piece of cake. I haven't got the Rampaging Giants quest yet but it seems out of the way so i'll probably just stick with Winterfall Intrusion. I've found that the slowest it takes me to get back and forth is 15 minutes (and that includes killing the mobs).

      15minutes * 250rep per turn in = 1,000rep/hour

So, once you get to Friendly rep,
      6,000 / 1,000 = 6 hours

      Then Honored,
      12,000 / 1,000 = 12 hours

      And finally,
      21,000 / 1,000 = 21 hours

      6 + 12 + 21 = 39 hours

That's not too bad for this very rare, one of kind mount. Especially considering the fact that it only requires 75 Riding skill and only costs 100g/90g (if you're Honored with Darnassus i believe). Plus, when you're all done grinding these quests out you might have enough gold for your flying mount. :-)

      Where to get it:
      • Frostsaber Rock, all the way in the north of winterspring from Rivern Frostwind [50,10]. (On top of the big rock jutting out.) Once Exalted, you can purchase the mount for 80 gold.

      FIRST:
      • Quest:Frostaber Provisions
      • Amount: 6 times.
      • Notes:
This quest drop rate isn't the funnest for a grinding quest, but it isn't too horrible. Just think, once you finish this part you never really have to do it again! (Unless you are a skinner and enjoy skinnings from these.. but note your bags fill up faster picking up those dang bear jaws and whatnot >.<!)

      SECOND:
      • Quest:Winterfall Intrusion
      • Amount: 162 times.
      • Notes: This is the quest we grinded on the most. Reason is: It is not a drop rate quest, it is just a kill quest. The location of the mob is at [68,36]. It will be a small little village, and they will typically be in the rear area of the village as well as on the ridge directly south of there.

      BONUS!
      • Quest: Beads for Salfa
      • Notes: If you have completed the Winterfall Activity quest (given by Salfa at 27,34), then Winterfall Spirit Beads will drop along with your kills.
      • Warning!: I would wait until -after- you finish with your Wintersaber Trainer Rep or until -after- you are honored to turn in the beads. (You don't have to, but it's advice I wish I had when I started..) This is so you still get as much experience from killing the mobs as possible.
      • Why would I do this too?:
With enough experience, you can buy things from Meilosh. Click here to see all the many things you can get, not including eventually getting the quest for Defender of the Timbermaw.

      Tip!
      • Make sure you have all quests accepted at all times. You never know when you will be killing the giants. Also, if you get dazed to or from the furbolgs, there might be a possibility a meat might drop! If this happens enough it's like a bonus quest turn in :P

We started out at level 62, the two of us. We made twins in game and figured we wanted matching mounts as well.. and this was our goal. We could never be happier with our griding. We plan on getting this mount again for our second set of twins as well.

Please note that this is a mount that has 100% speed increase, however you only need 75 riding for it! So if you don't have the gold for the upgrade in riding, you don't have to worry until later (but beware.. it will bite you in the butt later as you will have to spend -more- because to get the 225 riding, you need the 150 first >.<!). We personally both had epic mounts as to make the commute between the quest giver and the quest area faster, thus less time spent on grinding.

there is also a giant quest that comes at some point ( Rampaging Giants ), but the quest is so far south we only did it when all of the mobs were either being killed by others for the quests from Everlook and whatnot or when we needed a break from the furbolgs. They took longer to kill, were spread out more and are also elite.

Finally, I would also like to note that this amount is not relevant for the human race in the game. Their reputation gain is increased so the mount you need to do each quest will be even less! *sigh*

I would assume double that for the next, and double that for the next, etc. Looking at a total time of about 30 hours non-stop. So at 6 hours per session, we're talking about 5 days of playing. It's not that bad. Just think, if you weren't doing this, you'd be hanging out near an AH wasting time for a total of about the same.... unless you're a pvp rat. Regardless, I would expect this mount to be the best ground mount in the game. And something to clearly brag about. =)

As of 3.0.2, as a level 70, this is still 250 rep per turn-in.
Or 275 if you are human :)

only for alliance, can start at lvl 58, only requires 75 riding skill, and is 100% speed
frostsabers provisions is the only on you get at the begining untill you get 1500 rep (gives 250 each turn)
when you get 1500/3000 rep winterfall intrusion gets unlocked(also gives 250 rep)
when hit honored Rampaging giants get unlocked (for me the easier,350 rep always free of people unlike furbolgs one)
DONT NEED DARNASSUS REP, only wintersaber trainers to exalted (did need rep before the patch 1.3 or something but not anymore)
having a epic mount makes it faster
after making to honored each trip (making all the quests) is 850 rep and can be around 30-60 min (depend on luck of drop with meat and how many people are camping the furbolgs)and about 39 trips
for me before honored was the slower part

As of 3.02 here is the math for getting exalted.

      Provisions quest: 250 * 6 = 1500
      (Unlocks winterfall intrustions)

From now on take both provisions and winterfall instusions
Complete both on the way to turn them in

to get to friendly from this point: 6
to get to honored from here: 24
      to get to revered: 48
      to get to exalted: 84

      Overal:
      6 indivdual provisons
      162 doing both at once

81 runs from quest giver to intustions and back

Enjoy your runs. Thankfuly it's not as bad as before.

Quite happy to say I only started grinding rep for this mount yesterday morning at about 9am and I am already half way through revered.

Call me a no lifer if you want but whenever I choose to obtain something in-game i just have to crack on and focus on nothin else til I have acheived it lol ( only 2 days ago I grinded shatari skyguard from friendly to exalted in only 1 day for a netherray mount )

I have played in total about 12 hours so far non stop grinding so im 100% the mount will be mine tonight.

My trick was to set my hearthstone to Everlook and every time it is cooled down hearth and do the giants and the furbolg, in between I only do the provisions quest which on average takes me 10 minutes.

Doing it this way saves a massive amount of travel time between quests especially when the bloody shamans are never to be found!

I suppose the fact I have the band of Kirin'tor (free HS to dalaran every hour ) made it a lot easier to hearth to Everlook but if you are adamant you want to grind this mount then setting your HS there is a good idea regardless.

Still got my eyes open for Rak though... being a hunter but no luck just yet :(

Good luck all and happy mindless grinding :)

personally i wouldn't do this grind if i weren't a skinner, i think the drop rate would make me mental!  my system from friendly to honored was a triangle route.  from the rock (past the cats) i worked the valley heading to everlook.  as a 71 hunter, i picked big mobs, nothing smaller than groups of 3.  slaughter, maime, loot, skin, repeat.  instead of going right in the village, i go up the ridge first, there's usually at least 3 ursa, and possibly 1 shaman.  if your also rep grinding timbermaw, i recommend going to the cave where the chief is, he's worth 40 rep (normal ones are 20) and there's usually a shaman with him.  working backwards sometimes helps beat others to the punch as well. pop into everlook repair, sell, if you have cache of mur'aur (spelling?) you can turn in the gems that drop for some nice items.

the giants can be found in and around the valley at the bottom of winterspring.  i use this as an opportunity to take on some dragonkin (another terrible drop rate there *cries*) plow through them on the way down, i go into the valley.  and then on the way back, kill a few more for good measure. not saying it's the fastest, but i do this when i feel motivated.  when i get sick of it i drop the quests, and go do something more interesting.  i hope, hope, hope that they make these a neutral quest, love to see my tauren on this kitty \(^o^)/

If you’re a skinner you can make over 500 GOLD doing this quest.  I tracked the kills on 10 trips.  The average number of kills is 22 to get the 10 pieces of meat.  That’s almost 50% drop rate.  I don’t know what people are whining about.  The average number of rugged hides per trip was 15.  They sell in Duskwood AH for 50s each or 7.5 gold per trip.
I hope every one has Cache of Mau’ari.  After you turn in the E’kos, the merchandise you get sells very nicely to the vendors.  I am getting a couple gold for each trip.

      you start at:

      neutral  3000
      friendly  6000
      honored  12000
      revered  21000
      exalted  999

1st q, 250 rep takes like 6 min work must do this q 6 times to get the 2nd q

2nd q, 250 rep takes like 9 min time due to low mobs must w8 for spawn must do this q 15 times to hit honered and get the 3rd q

3rd q, 350 rep takes like 10 min cause you must go to the place to kill them and that takes like 4 min must do this 3 q 38 times to hit exalted

Happy grinding for the nice mount

I did this in 4 days 5 hours a day xD

This rep grind works best if you are also trying to get timbermaw rep, kill two birds with one stone.  From neutral to honored with the Wintersaber Trainers, you will kill enough of those darned furbolgs to get about 200 spirit beads, thats 12,000 rep right there, not counting the kill rep if you are doing this before revered (10 per kill, 40 off the chief in the cave, chief still gives rep after revered).
Always get all the quests, there are bears and chimeras all over the place, don't know if they upped the drop rate on the meat but it dropped for me about 50% of the time so no excuse not to do it.  Furbolgs are easy as was mentioned before becuase you just kill shamans and ursa x5. Giants, well at 80 they go down with a sneeze, not to much problem killing them around level 70 either. If you are actually doing this around level 60, i'd suggest gettting a group of people who want to grind rep and go for it, otherwise stick to the previous two quests.
Time is going to be the biggest investment here, took me about 10 hours to go through this start to finish at 80, this whole thing gets nuts on a PvP server, everybody is farming everything, and killing everybody for it. I think Winterspring is where the horde go when they are not in Dalaran, never seen so many 80s in a low area that was no where near am insance.
Finally, if you are above the zone level, please don't take kills from people trying to get exp, and do quests. Group with them, help them, you have other far more intersting places you can go... they don't.

I dont know why people are taking so long to grind the rep for this mount it only took me 2 1/2 days to go from 0 rep to exalted and I play a protection warrior, cant get a slower rep grinding class than that.

you could be a sad sod and grinding 20 hours aday

so 5 days would be 100 hours which would be 20 days for a not so casual casual

Anyone know that in the next expansion that this quest line will be removed? With all the regions in eastern kingdoms and kalimdor being changed not so popular questlines such as this one might be removed or changed. Like the tier 2 helm from Ony, you can no longer get the lvl60 version if you were collecting the old tier sets.

well    it seems hell easy as far as im concerned  the repetitive-ness of it all  is what seems to piss people off...
      as a lvl 80 druid

      1st quest x 6 = 1500/3000    takes like 45mins most
with 2 quests = 3000/3000    takes 30-45 mins at most to hit

1 hour & 15-30 mins from neutral to friendly

500 rep per 10-15mins    takes near to to 2.5hours to honored.

whats that  3 hours to activate honored and get the 3rd quest....

wether the drop rate fails on the starter quest or not ...at lvl 80 and 2shotting everything    i say do it .....850 rep per hand in.......guess viewing it on the mental side of it  may come to more time doing all 3  as aposed to forgetting the starter quest and doing the other 2 quests        theres alot less hands ins when you do all 3
      honored = 12k to revered
      revered = 21k to exalted
      total  = 33k

      33k devide by 850rep(all 3 quests) = 39 hand ins
      33k devide by 600rep(last 2 quest) = 55 hand ins

dunno    to me  thinking about it, not going off by time.... 39 hand ins would seem a hell of a lot quicker than 55
