    Ye, it requires lvl 60

You have to do a 3-part hellish quest to get it, but it is wellllll worth the wait

The doomguard you summon in the ritual is actually 3-4 times as powerful as the one summoned by chance but CoD (curse of doom)

hmmmm thats what they say.... but... at around 60 i curse of doomed somethings in hillsbrad and got one and it attacked for about 300-400 and then i got doomgaurd ritual at 70 and he only attacked for 380. sure there where armor differences between nagrad and hillsbrad but not enough to make the same amount of dmg from 10 lvls before with the curse 1/3 -1/4 of the strength of a ritual 10 lvls later. otherwise i could summon him in hillsbrad and he would do 1200 swings which of course wouldn't happen.

i don't know how they came up with this 3-4x amount

sorry to say but this guy is kinda weak for 70 pet and with all the drawback - 60 min cool - 90s regent - needs 5 people - one person dies - u need to enslave it when it comes out-  you would think it would be all powerful and swing for like 600-700 non crit  not just some amount u take from any lvl 70 mob.

am I missing something here? how does one of these things kill the lock if they are not quick enough to enslave or how is this good in a raid?  What's with the mighty dmg i was promised?

Id say infernal is much better, swings for 400, 2sec cast, has immolation aura, (i think the summoned one is immune to fire, pretty sure), can be summoned by one automaticly enslaved and lower cost on regent.

I'm sorry, deamondog22, let me re-read these sections:

      ~
"hey doom guard is preatty good because u dont have to sacrifice a person u have to sacrifice one of ur pets."

"And so if ur doin a big raid all u have to do is summon the doomguard and make the doom guard go to the enemy and fight them, if he gets unslaved he will still fight the people but of course if he kills them ull probaley have to go kill him."

"my opinion is that they should lower the attack of doom guard and infernal and they should let us have them till some one kills it.."
      ~

Those relevant exerpts caught my eye as I read them. Whoops, did I copy ~your whole post~? I think I did. Oh well. I'll answer each section.

In regards to the first exerpt, no. Ritual of Doom does not affect pets. The people who are sacrificed are the ones who are ~directly~ involved with the summoning (including the summoner himself, which kinda sucked this one time.) Pets cannot be sacrificed as part of the ritual.
Secondly, it's a russian roulette effect. You don't choose the person being sacrificed. The "Doomguard" does.

In regards to the second exerpt, I think it's pretty obvious that you want to Doomguard to go out and kill things. After all, when no-one hits it, it can make a lot of children cry. However, you must take into account that the Doomguard itself is ~as fragile as glass.~ I can't stress that enough. Whenever it breaks control, the rest of my party takes it down -BEFORE I CAN FULLY CAST THE ENSLAVE SPELL.- So, either my party is full of Tier-2 demi-gods who can 10-man MC, or that Doomguard has a skeleton of toothpicks.

In regards to the third exerpt, NO. The Doomguard doesn't need to be weakened any further than it already is. What they should be doing is giving it more defense and armor. Let it take more damage. Warlocks don't spend 1g on regents for nothing.

As the summoner, the Warlock will always be the target of an Infernal or Doomguard who has broken free until he/she is dead or if you mount really far away (haven't tested the second one, but I assume that as soon as you are too far away for it to target you the aggro on you is lost).

Have you ever seen an affliction/destruction warlock? Obviously not...and demonology locks still dish out some good damage too besides their minions. And saying a rogue or warrior beats them with no effort is like saying milk doesn't come from cows. You can't have been playing WoW very long.

Although there's little point jumping on the bandwagon of hate for this, I see two arrogant players preaching about their classes' superiority over the other, it's pointless.

To answer the warlock's (NightElfsPet) statement, I have NEVER seen a fight go so perfectly for a Warlock, especially against a Paladin as they have many, many counters to the warlock's strengths (Resistance Auras, Holy Light, Divine Sheild, Cleanse... The list goes on). Also you assume you have a Succubus ready, which is not garunteed, and that the Pally dosen't recognize it as a threat and zap it right away with Exorcism, which *finally* makes very short work of Demons like it should have from game release.

Death coil's application at the right time is very irritating, and can turn the tide in the Warlock's favor and the Warlock's damage output is, frankly, overpowered verses clasess without the benifit of Shadow/Fire resistance and Cleansing abilities.

Either way, you can put rulers away boys, as always, the biggest determining factors are skill and equipment, no matter how skilled you are if all you have is an Ice-Barbed spear and your opponent is packing an epic you're in for a world of hurt, and on the flipside, no matter how good your gear is you will loose to a skilled opponent if you don't know what you're doing.

A half-decent Paladin is any players worst nightmare in 1 on 1 PvP, and warlocks deal *stupid* amounts of damage with the correct stratergy and timing. Skilled warlocks piss me off becasue they are adept at exploiting their overpowered damage spells, and Paladins with equipment worthy of their skills send the best of us packing without breaking a sweat.

Oh yeah, Doomguard... I've actually *never* seen a Doomguard under a player's control, I've seen many , many, many Infernals in my time, but Doomguard are something of a rarity in my experience, I guess you foolish demon-worshippers prefer the giant flaming guys, either way I hear that if you hit them with Curse of Shadow before you ensalve them they will remain under your control for longer... Might want to test that one!

As a PvPing Warlock, I have to agree with the above Poster.  Class abilities may be very powerful in certain situations, but nothing makes up for Experience, Skill, and Gear.

That said, All of you Warlocks who rely so heavily on Fear or Seduce will have a hard time transitioning to PvP in situations other than 1 on 1.

My *particular* strategy in dealing with Paladins 1 on 1 is to use CoEx and drain their mana while DoTing/kiting.  Since I am not Demonology, whatever pet I have out is the one I use for the fight.  In world PvP, and even BGs, you have to learn to be adaptable.  When fighting a Paladin, you're fighting against their mana supply and their ability to heal themselves over and over again.

In terms of Skill, there is a counter for everything.  Knowing what item/spell to use at the right time can make all the difference.  There's all kinds of weird stuff that people use to befuddle or delay their opponents.  A split second can mean the difference between winning and losing.  Nothing can make up for Skill.

Experience is about knowing what to expect from other players and classes.  There's a counter to every move.  Some classses have certain advantages.  If I'm fighting a Paladin and he has 3k HP left, he might not think he needs to heal right away, so when I get a Nightfall Proc it's entirely possible to kill him with a Shadowbolt(instant), ShadowBurn (instant), Death Coil(instant), Shadowbolt (2.5 sec, but he's running from DC).  Of course, if that fails to finish him, you just shot your wad and might lose the battle...

There's not much I can say about Gear.  People in Epic gear have an advantage.  It's not going to win a battle for you if you don't have Skill and Experience, but it sure helps a lot.

As a side note, the class I have the hardest time facing is the Hunter.  I have specific strategies for them given certain situations (their build, their pet, what pet I happen to have out at the time), but the big problem for me is that in World PvP I don't often see them coming and I get nailed from max range.

Additionally, the Doomguard (this is the Doomguard forum, yes?) is absolutely wonderful in combat against almost anyone for 2 reasons: war stomp and cripple.  It's too hard to get out, though.  The best use of the Doomguard I've had is to summon one before an AB starts and take it to a flag.  A single war stomp against a group and a cripple can turn the tide.  You're proably only going to get off one of each skill before it's either Banished or killed.  Was that worth 1g and the inconvenience of losing a teammember before the gates open?  That's up to you.

Locks are definitely one of the more powerful classes, there is no denying that.

My main is a lock.... alliance.

I will not always beat everyone my level....  there are certain players at my level with good armor sets, skills, and whatnot who will often beat me more often than I beat them, and certain players who cannot even make a dent in a duel.  There have been occasions where two horde at my level tried to gang up on me and kill me, and they both ended up getting wasted and I still had around half health and mana.  There have been other times where I wasn't able to do much...

The lock has to be the best soloing class (or best vs a single opponent) and probably overall the best against computer controlled mobs in one on one situations, however in a group we cannot heal or tank so while the lock may be the most powerful in combat, they are not the most valuable. I can take out most elites 3 levels above me without much of a problem with my lock.... certain classes have trouble with elites of their own level.

Locks do insane amounts of damage, but die quickly too (and don't heal themselves).  As a lock, I have to say the Rogue would have to be the locks worst enemy.  Rogues are pretty good caster killers and a rogue who has any idea what they are doing will usually have a powerful main hand weapon and a fast offhand weapon, which means they can interupt a locks spellcasting forcing the lock to use fear or death coil to get anything off before getting killed.

The first thing you'll need to do is head to the Blasted Lands and go to the Tainted Scare.  The second you get to the Tainted Scare you hang a right and hug the mountains till you find the quest giver.
You'll then have 2 quests that he can give you, take both!
Then you head to DM east and kill a bunch of satyrs for their blood (15).  Not hard at all, it's soloable, but really easy in a 3-5 man.
Next, you'll head to Winterspring and go to the gorge there.  All the way to the south end of Winterspring.  You basically hunt some elite demons there and collect 5 tears.
After you've done this you simply head back to the quest giver and turn in the 2 quests.
Now the fun part... you'll now have to capture a Doomguard in the crystal prison the quest giver gives you.  This really isn't hard, but dont be affraid to die and have your ss ready.  I inprisoned him the first time, but died also.  Used my ss and collected the prison and turned it in. *** If you die right when he gets inprisoned its fine! You can come back to your corpse or ss and the prison will be right there waiting for you (looks like a grey crystal floating there)
Then all you do is turn it in and badabing you can summon a Doomguard!  Really not a hard quest line, did it in 1 evening.

I got my "Doomguard" yeserday. Not yet had a chance to use it but i will be looking forward to it.

The quest isnt that hard, well at least for me... I did this at my level 66 (4 bars from 67 WOOT).
Not that hard, soloed the whole thing, by the way i am demon spec-ed. Got the the blood which is needed from the first quest in Dire Maul - West. Went through the normal starting point walked up to that big drop, jumped down ran to the far end (North-East - Top Right) Cleared out all the Santyrs there and got all my blood withing 20 mins.

The ters of Hedrine took a bit of time for me 45 mins, but do NOT give up they WILL drop frequently.

The last part was just too easy, get a Soulstone on you, go to a Doomguard send your Voidwalker in let him get aggro, use the shards wihin a few secs you'll get aggro. Then when you start taking damage, about for two secs then sacrifice Voidwalker and the doomguard will just use its skills like Rein Of Fire etc (It does have a  stomp which can cancel the channeling of capture)

When youve done it will turn into a little standing shard on the floor, just go and pick it up and ride back that guy North of Tainted Scar. Hand it in easy!

To be honest i disenchanted the off-hand book as i have that Battle-Mages Baton from the Ring Of Blood, dont want to give up that =P The book is rubbish anyway, got a large primatic shard from the disenchant on the book i think. Well good look to all with this quest!

no to summon the doomguard (after completing qst chain ofc) you need a demonic figurine from a reagent vendor and a 5 man party to do the ritual summon, once the ritual has ended one of the party is sacrificed (always an idea to do the ritual near a graveyard if poss) and the doomguard appears, then you can enslave and create mayhem!!. Always an idea to soulstone yourself prior to summoning as unless you have another lock high enough to enslave and you are the sacrifice it will start beating on your group this one hits far harder than the curse of doom summoned one! so if you have grouped with some lower levels for the ritual i have known it to 1-2 hit the others before making good its escape :).(not to say this isn't highly amusing).

The name of the NPC who starts the quests to summon a doom guard is "Daio the Decrepit". He can be located in the northwest part of The Tainted Scar of Blasted Lands around 33, 49.

He gives you three quests: "The Prison's Bindings" (a gathering quest in Dire Maul East), "The Prison's Casing" (a gathering quest in DarkWhisper Gorge of Winterspring), and "Suppression" (the part where you actually fight/capture the doomguard after doing the previous two).

            Hope that helps :)

the doomguard is great! unlesashed it in goldshire, lvl 9's ran like a bitch *_*

overall the doomguard has its downsides regarding time and effort. what i do is banish a demon (or elemental) get the targets health down to like 5-10% before banishing. unleash curse of doom on the target and watch it die to resume a place as a fully, shiny new doomguard! works a treat an saves effort :P

Agreed. I went demo-specced because, IMO, the felhunter just doesn't cut it. It's got hardly any dps. Succubus has dps, but cant take damage. VW takes damage, but doesnt deal any. The felguard is just the right combination of DPS and tanking, whereas the Doomguard is generally only useful for killing random players in towns, according to the other posts here. It hardly deals damage and dies REALLY quickly. It also only stays enslaved for 30 second after I summon it, and when I try to re-enslave it, it either resists, or it become enslaved for 15 more seconds, before breaking free again. I haven't found a real use for it yet. Getting the Ritual of Doom spell would only be useful for unleashing a Doomguard on a town reliably, instead of having to proc CoD. Great fun, but otherwise useless as a real demon. Felguard FTW!
