I have an owl that I tamed without screech. Is it possible to learn screech from a pet trainer, or am I SOL?

For your pet to learn a Rank of Pet abilities, it does *not* need to know the previous ranks. (All having the previous ranks does, is make you pay the cost of the higher ranks over time, so a rank 1 for 1 point you'd pay 1 point for, and at rank 2, for 5 points, you'd only pay 4, since you already paid 1 for Rank 1.)
You can learn Whatever rank straight away, that your pet is able to learn. (aka, tame pet, teach it bite 5, right away, without having 1-4.)
shouldt ZG Bat suppose to have Screech??
just got my ZG bat 2 weeks ago, and it hasnt got Screech? should i learn it at Pet Trainer or what?
To the above poster - As far as I know the Owls from lvls 50 - 56, do not have screech as their own skill.
All you have to do is train the lvls 48-49 Ironbeak owls (As they do have Screech) and have them attack a few mobs until you learn Screech 3. Then abandon that pet and go grab a 50+ owl pet. Once you have some training points, then you can train your new owl Screech3. Screech 4 is learned from the level 57+ Winterspring owls. Screech and growl are two quite different skills. Growl taunts targets to attack your pet. Screech does damage and a debuff, so the mob hits for less. I really love my owl in pvp, screech is a great debuffer! - oh yeah and maybe something obvious but turn growl off in pvp - its a waste of the owls focus against rl human players.
Screech 1 - Greater FleshRipper lvl 16-17, I took someones advice from here and swam from Grom'gol to Westfall, these were right on the beach in Longshore past The Lighthouse.
Screech 2 - Salt Stone Gazer lvl 32, I again took advice from someone who posted here and found these East of the race trac. Not old enough for Screech 3 but i'll come back to finish.
There are only two types of pets for hunters now, those with screech and those without it. Pets with screech are super for PvE because of their super aggro. Screech is half as powerful a taunt as growl on one monster, but goes off twice as often with the BeastMastery talent beastial discipline even if you leave growl on, so its just as good on one enemy but way better on multiple targets as it taunts all nearby. I have made many hunters up to level 43, but had bears, turtles, and cats as pets. What a difference with an owl. At level 34 I easily solo'ed a level 43 turtle with my owl pet and it never lost aggro. Not even for a split second. That's 9 levels higher, of course. There are only two kinds of pets now: those with screech and those without it; great and terrible. I wish I had known sooner.
To re-iterate: Screech can be taught to all Owls, Bats, Carrion birds. But only a select few actually have the skill. If you have a really cool rare bird, stable it and tame one of the ones with the skill, learn the skill, kill off the trash pet, and teach it to your really cool rare bird. This goes for many abilities. Check out petopedia.com, they have details on which pets have which ranks of which abilities.
