Bears in hillsbrad are good for rank 3-4 claw, rank 1-2 is from bears in loch modan, rank 5 is from encrusted crawlers in desolace, basically for low lvl claw abil u get it from bears, then easiest to get higher lvl claw abil is from crabs, doesn't mean you need to keep the sucky pet, just get your abil from it, then ditch and teach it to a real hunters pet, a cat, wolves are good, but cats are better, specially if you get Humar, or the Rake, fast attacks,and if u get the beast mastery armor % bonus, then u have a fast pet with good tank abil.
To learn a new active pet skill, or to upgrade an old one, you need to stable your regular pet, go out and tame a pet that knows the skill you want, and fight with it until you get a text message that you have learned the new skill. Sometimes this happens immediately, sometimes only after several battles.
Once you have learned the new skill, right-click that animal's picture and ABANDON it, then get your regular pet back out of the stable and use the slingshot Training icon under the General tab of your spellbook (easy to miss because it is not under the Beast Master section), to teach it the new skill. Many hunters believe you can learn a new skill faster if you melee in close proximity to the animal you are learning from. I also feed the pet until it is "green-happy" though it is unknown whether that also helps. Growl and all of the passive skills (armor, stamina, resists) are learned from your pet trainer in town. If you have troubles learning a new skill from a wild pet, here are my suggestions: Recheck the lists in the links above to make sure the pet actually knows this skill. Turn off any other skill on its bar besides the one you want to learn, including Growl. You want the skill to go off as often as possible so use all focus for that skill only. Have it fight solo against very easy mobs. Stand directly next to it and heal if necessary, do not fight the mob yourself even if you are attacked by it. Continually manually spam the skill button for that skill (Bite, Claw, etc) Some skills such as Prowl and Howl can be learned outside of combat, just find a quiet place to sit with your pet and keep spamming that skill.
put ur regular pet inside the stable and find another pet that already has the skill u want and then tame it, then fight with that new pet untill it says in the message that u learned the new ability then u can abandon the new pet if u want and then get ur original pet out and teach it the new skill
Now it's kinda hard to keep track on all various pet abilities and what beast can teach you what... I've just been in Badlands, taming my Broken Tooth, but everywhere I looked no beast with Claw 6... Patriarchs on the west have Dash 2 and Prowl 2, but no claw... Where can I find Claw 6 and higher?

It is to my knowledge that if you want to up your ranks you must stable your pet then here is something no one has mentioned I think.. You are a hunter aparently so you want you use your beast lore to reveal the beast you wanna tame go do that and find the beast witht he rank you want then tame him use him for a bit till it says you learned new skill then dismiss him go back to your stabled pet then train him what you learned

where is a monster lvl 42 or below that has claw rank 6?
