I've been trying to find Mist Howler for a long time but i've yet to find him. Is he a random spawn, do Ghostpaws hold his place, or does he spawn at a set time after he's killed?
Anything would be great, thanks.
Around 10:07am I found the Howler, almost had him tamed when a druid out of the kindness of his heart tried to heal me. I'm wondering if I'm right but when you are healed while taming a pet that cancles your taming right? Cause that's what happened to me.. oh well gunna wait another 24 hrs. :/
Mist Howler is probably one of the nicest wolves a young hunter can pick up, due to his fast 1.3 attack speed (helpful against casters and for BM builds that plan to get the Frenzy skill), and his fast-as-any-cat pursuit speed (though that may be changing in 1.9 when all pet speeds look to be getting "normalized").
The black SFK worg is a slight bit faster at attack (1.2), but harder to get to solo, and some don't care for the animations on the worgs.
Mist Howler is a Rare spawn, so he might not be in the area on the map when you check the first time; I usually find him west of the path and near the shrine-looking structure there. He has a special attack that can break the taming process, so clear out the surrounding area a bit and be prepared to possibly have to try more than once. Mana potions are helpful in case you have to cast the Tame spell multiple times, and be sure to use the Freezing Trap skill you pick up at L20, as that will help a great deal.
Apparently Lupos doesn't do Shadow Damage anymore (as of current patch, or the soon to be patch 1.9).
So better to go for Mist Howler.
I'll be hunting him for a bit tonight.
And Humar too (cause i know what time he'll spawn! huzzah!)
i just wanted to confirm that Mist Howler is on a 12 hour spawn time. I was searching for him around 10:30 last night, i asked in general chat if anyone had seen him and a hunter said she had just tamed him no more than a minute ago. I kept checking back every hour with no luck so i went to bed. I started looking again at 9:30 the next morning searching his area every 15 mins or so, until i found him with my /target Mist Howler macro at 10:36AM, great pet, runs quick too, however he does not come with Bite, you need to have it already if you want him to have it.
Found him on the southern most tip of the spotted parts on map. Took me hours to find him but I guess I needed to wait for respawn time.
Had to use concussion shot/freeze trap, died several times in the porocess too :)
It also comes with the Furious Howl LVL 1 skill.
As far as i can tell Mist Howler is on either a 12 or 24 hour spawn time (most likely a 24). to tame him i set a freeze trap backed up and started to tame the only problem being the fear ability which caused my failure and death several times but you just need to be lucky. as far as macros go which there were some questions about all you need to do is press the Esc key and select macros from the options, select the icon you want and type the name such as mist howler then in the window below type /target mist howler and you are done.
good luck and happy hunting
i found him at 9:02 am central time at location 22,30 this morning
I've been to this area looking for this wolf and finally gave up and just when I was leaving the area it shows up. Definitely use your ice trap before trying to tame him. Very fast attackes. Worth it.
i just got mist howler today but saw no difference between his pursuit speed as described above and the pursuit speed of a normal ghostpaw (which i had before). Was it nerfed when all of the pets were brought to the same speed? If then, what's so cool about having mist howler?
I am having the same question.... i've been lookin for this animal all day and can't find it.. will it come up on the minimap as mist howler? and does it help if i kill the other wolves in hopes it will spawn?
I tamed Mist Howler today on at 6:50am....4:50am server time on Spinebreaker at 22,28 in Ashenvale. Fast attack dog, rounds out the stable with the Rake and Humar.
I camped him off and on today, hopping a flight to Zoram and scouting around for him between quests. Yesterday I tamed Humar after camping his tree for about 2 hours. I'm making a rather good hunter, I haven't had to wait like crazy to get a named or elite pet. I found Dishu right away and only one I've killed and not tamed is Takk.
Good luck to all the Mist Howler young hunters out there!
For the HORDE!
Are there any tricks to finding this guy. Been searching a while and have come up empty. Respawn rates things like that would be nice if anyone has them
He has the same stats as most cats, or he at least machest teh averages for cats. Which are 1.3 attack speed, and 145% pursuit speed. While most wolves have the faster pursuit, they do not have the increased attack speed.
Basically he matches Humarr in terms of stats, but he is a dog and not a cat.
So if you want the best of both worlds he is the way to go for sure.
AV frostwolves have an unreral pursuit, but their arrack speed is slow. Even Worgs at 1.2 attack speed are BARELY better than him, and they don't have the increased pursuit.
At level 20 he is a pet that you can keep and train and at 60 wil be the best wolf in the game as far as wolves go. Basically he is a cat in a wolves body.
I am level 37 and missed him every time I went there. But I want a wolf. I already have Humarr so if I get him it will basically be like having the same pet, except one will be a dog, and one will be a cat.
So it is a dilemna. Not to mention trying to level a pet 17 levels below you is a time consuming endeavor.
Yeah i killed him when i was 19 and then when i got 22 i went back searching for him killed some ghost wolf thinggys and found him tamed him and his attack speed was 2.00 i was wondering does it eventually go down to 1.3 or did i catch a bad one or what???
I tamed him today at 7 am . NOBODY was on, i just logged of at the spot he was sopposed to be and when i stayed home form school today i logged in and there he was.....AWSOME pet, great AS(1.3) and the itercept/pursuit speed is not that bad either.
Anyone else think this is a good way?
I have 3 hunters 1 troll and 2 Ne's and i love hunting the rare pets all my hunters only have rare pets. I heard of mist howler and decided that i wanted a rare wolf instead of a worg and none of my hunters are high enough to get Snarler so i decided to get Mist Howler. So i went to his spawn place waited a day and there he was just walking around. He was a hard pet to tame. He has mad DPS for a wolf and when i was almost finished taming him he feared me somehow and i had to start over. He almost killed me, but i did get him my 10th rare pet.

I'm now on day 2 of trying to find Mist and nothing yet I'm begining to think he doesn't really exsist.
Can someone give me the exact co-ordinates to his spwan place so I can camp that instead of running round in circles.
I have finally tamed him, used ice trap he didn't fear me so a nice easy tame, I found him at 22,34

What does he look like???
I tamed the Mist Howler at 7:30 AM EST on 5/28/06. So if anyone is looking any time soon don't bother until 12 hours after this time. And as far as looks it's the Timber Wolf skin, which is a little darker than the ghostpaw runner.

first I am confirming that mist Howler is on a 12 to 24 hour spawn time and that it has three places it spawnes, all lining the path between the north entrance to Ashenval from Dark Shore to the Zoram Strand. Mist Howler does not start with it's Terrifying Howl ability (fear) it only starts with the buff furious Howl (increases the damage done by all party members during their next melee atack with in ten yards). Mist Howler is best tamed by setting a freezing trap then begining taming it, the reason for this recomended strategy is becuase you have a very high chance of being feared.
Happy Hunting
Read on currently being updated Petopia about him yesterday evening, looked around a few times then decided to camp and try my luck over the next days (I am a lv22 fem orc hunter). Logged on early afternoon (about 2 p.m. German time on Thrall), looked around a bit and there he was (German name "Nebelheuler") far north besides the little house near the path aside Maestras Post. I used icetrap, first time he feared me - second try I used icetrap, he feared, I came back and used the glue trap also (I still have a few of those), had only little health left but it worked :-)
Found him today around 11 am MEST (after 1 day searching). Taming him was quite easy after the comments on this page. I drunk every potion which seems to fit ;), set a frost trap and then did a concusion shot. He feared me once, but I just started taming again with arround 60% HP and .... it worked (5% HP left).

It's pet attack speed normalization which happened at last update. So ALL pets have 2.0 attack speed. Can only be made faster by talents. Yes, it sucks.
just tamed him i was going around the map the thottbot has posted and checking the dots and the re he was i put down frozen trap and i hit him with scorpid sting while i was taming him onother wolf attacked but i manage to tame him with the first try the wolves attacked me but i ran and now i got my wolf^^
Several people have mentioned that this wolf fears you when you attempt to tame him. Is this an ability that he retains after he is tamed? I am looking for another pet for a 29 hunter that will be doing bgs for awhile and want something different than the boar. I would pick this wolf up in a second if it gave me a fear ability.
This pet's speed and attack speed have been normalized. No longer anything special
Very disappointing now that pets have been nerfed by Blizz. Why go to all the trouble to track down an elite just to end up with a generic animal with nothing special?
I managed to tame him today after random visits. He feared me once and took a load of health off me too.A good idea would be to get a 'fear' buff from a priest before hand.Nice looking wolf though
I found him at his northern spawn point. He was just walking slightly north of the night elf house on the path towards darkshore. I believe he spawns in the morning so my best advice is to search for him in early morning hours. Just use the /target mist howler macro and it should be pretty easy. Also, wait until after he fears you to set your freeze trap and tame him.
because this is the only grey wolf between lvls 10-40.
Just got Mist Howler. It is really too bad that they nerfed him. Makes the 5 hours I spent camping him a complete waste. Maybe if they made it so you couldn't rename the Rare pets. At least that way they'd almost be like trophies.
i agree, cos, getting a rare pet that has the same skin as an un-rare sucks, if you say 'oh it was the rare' everyon'e always like 'whatever.. it's obviously just that ___'
I'd quite like claudio to be named Humar ;)
Killed @19,30.
Lol, ever saw on the MAP? And READED the things they WROTE?
i found him when iwas at level 22 i was fight a bunch of wolfs with my ghost paw runner and almost killed him so i abandoned my ghost paw and ran and he left me alone and it took me like 45 minutes to tame him he killed me over and over but i had never looked here so this would have helped lol and it was west of the path area
Wow, I wasnt paying attention and saw him on my map and didnt even know he was rare so i just forgot about /cry

I have been searching the general area of 22,30 for the last day, every hour for 15 mins. I'm begining to think that maybe I've been looking in the wrong place. Does anybody have a map saying where Mist Howler respawns?
Never mind! I found and tamed him first try! (after camping out and taking a scout for him every half hour). For the records, I tamed him where he spawned at 22,29. Now my problem is naming him! Good luck to all Mist Howler hunters!
After reading this late last night I ventured to Ashenvale and tamed Mist Howler on my very first encounter! (thanks, BTW for the great tips on concussive shot and freeze trap) It was about 4:02 P.M, Mist Howler was near the abandoned house, very close to the top of the Ashenvale map. He seems to get unhappy very easily, but it probably seems that way because I have only had one other pet forever. Definitely not as good a tanker as my elder nightsaber that's only 1 level higher. Still, the howl buff and his cool random howl are worth it.
i was looking for him today for ten minutites tops. took two trys first got hit by fear ability. second time i used freeze trap like the first time but was a little farther back so he hit the trap while i was tameing him.
he's a nice pet to round out the stable on keylow
i have:
Humar The Pridelord
Ghost Saber
Mist Howler
and in total over the week or so of tameing its probubly only taken me a hour if that to get all three excluding traval.and only died once.
i found him around 26. 16. he isn't hard to find
After I decided to wait a few lvl:s for Humar, I tried two times and died both, had no scrolls at all, and decided to wait. He hits hard, Humar...
Anyway, I went to Ashenvale, for a trip to Darkshore for the Ghost Saber. As I stabled my Bat, I wanted some company on my way there and started looking for a wolf. First wolf I saw I leftclicked, I sat no trap, because I knew he was below my lvl...
It was Mist Howler, so he scared me, and I was gone... dead. I went back, sat trap, tamed him easy this time. I guess I was lucky, meeting him, a payout for the days I looked for Humar...
Now I'm going for Ghost Saber...then the all mighty Humar will be mine too...
:)
