    Is thottbot gonna list gems and their prospecting chances? I'd feel foolish prospecting some ore only to realize that it will never drop the particular gem I need.

      Download the mod "Enchantrix".  It will tell you what ores prospect into what gems and what the chances are.

      Thottbot does list them.  Look up the ore and there is a category called Proespecting results that lists them.
