If you have trouble finding a group, you can complete this quest on your own by dragging a Clefthoof to one of them friendly Sha'tar Vindicators in the southwestern parts of the Bone Wastes before killing it. Chances are that, after you use your fumper to summon the big bone worm, they'll run in and help you out.
I'd recommend you don't loot your Clefthoof right away, as they seem to despawn fairly quickly after being looted.
Its tricky to get the guards to attack, pretty sure they have to be attacked and the boss doesn't have an AoE effect by the looks of it. But anyway I died the worm killed the guard then killed me again, guess its doable like this but expect a repair bill getting it right.
and if you are hiding inside of the ramp to Auchindoun, behind the corner, it can't attack or follow you. Then it dies after two minutes and you can loot him.
This is NOT a glitch, but yet one more tribute to Dune.
Actually, I accidentally learned to solo it with virtually any class....and was able to repeat it on an alt.
1) Try to get him to spawn as close as possible to the ramp that leads down to the center circle of Auch.
2) Hit him a couple times and then make your way towards that ramp. Make sure to stop and smack him a few times on the way if it is a long ways.
3) Once at the ramp, run down it and around the corner (out of line of sight). After a few seconds the mob just dies on his own and you can go loot him.
- I found this out because I was on my main and was standing right beside the ramp....I got low on health and ran down the ramp and barely around the corner so i could bandage. Before i finished bandaging, the critter just died and i was like woohoo!
Confirmed.. took longer then a few seconds though, I waited for a minute.. then he just died :D
WOW i found out that all you have to do is pull hiim to the ramp you dont even have to run out of sight and just sit there and fight him til he dies. It wasnt working for me when i was getting him down to 93% health and running to the ramp so you do have to hit him a little more but i was actually fighting him where you guys were saying to run out of range and pull him and he did die after i got him down to 50%ish health

P.S. my dps sucked as prot when i fought him so i am sure anyone can do the same to dps him down and just leave him there or you can fight him until he dies just spam shield block ( =
Fantastic, after 1.5-2min he just dies! confirmed! it works! this baby can't warp next to you because of the walls :D so he just keeps bugging!

Thank you for this piece of advice. I believe at 65 I may have been able to solo this thing as I am Druid, but there was no need to put up a fight when he dies in moments with the above mentioned tactic.
I ran him over to the outter wall where there was an archway with rocks out in front of it, and he just stood at the rocks and then magically died 4 seconds later.
Lol wow, I just did this. You bring a cleft hoof as close to auch as you can (keeping it in the bone valley place) and kill it. Summon huge worm, hit him a couple times to make him mad, and run into auch, around the corner, to break line of sight.
He apparently can't come into auch, and just sits on the other side of the wall, angry. In about a minute... he just dies. Big angry heart attack or something.
Nice find man! Could not find help for this quest... now I got my dagger lol.
Be careful though, try to get behind the wall asap. His poison does 2200 damage, and his melee is nothing to laugh at either. But as long as you can make it to the other side of the wall... you're gold.
AWESOME POST!! I think i hit him maybe ONCE (with an arrow, lol) He dies on his own, just had to stay around the corner to avoid the poison spit. THANK YOU THOTTBOT
Just did this on my druid, worked fine but did have to do it 6 times before the elite came up. He hits hard so stay away from him or your dead solo, he does stop at the top of the ramp and just around the corner is out of his attack area so there you are safe.
I've found this only works if you do a decent amount of damage. Just running around the corner isn't going to do it. Pop out and hit him a few times with ranged and then go back and bandage if needed. It's really easy to get him down to about 50% in the two minutes without getting hit much.
As a 65 hunter alt, I just sent in my pet, healed him, fired a few rounds, and brought back to the safety of the corner when he was getting low on health. I waited until he was all healed up and sent him back in.
I tried the hide around the corner trick twice and both times it died but was couldn't be looted.
u have to get him to about %75 first b4 it works it works as of 2.3 did it on my warlock alt easily and my rogue main 5-6 months ago =D

Yup, still works as of Feb. 14/08. Kited a clefthoof from the derelict caravan to an Auch entrance ramp as a prot pally with SoL/JoL and being unarmed, then summoned the worm, ran around the corner, got a couple hits in with Avenger's Shield (did about 2% of his total health in damage), and waited for him to die. Worked like a charm.
Ok, i tried this quite a few times and it still didnt work.
1.i killed the clefthoof and summoned the big bone worm dropped a few dots on it (im lock) and sacrificed my voidwalker so i didnt get killed.
2. i ran down the ramp and behind the wall and stayed there until the big worm died
3. it was dead but i couldnt loot it :(

did it as a 65 mage, i brought him down to 75% and waited for him to die...only thing is he gave 181 exp, but i'm sure it's not a problem since it saves a lot of time.
ps: i looted him, i think the catch is to keep yourself as his target

OMG!!!!! march 8th 2008 and they havent fixed this yet!!! i just killed him this way hahaha
yep just did it it works great but if you are a mage you have to get him close to the ramp or you are screwed.
If this was a but, I think they fixed it. I called the elite 66 worm, whacked it a few times and ran around the corner. the worm died after about a minute but I could not loot it.
I am posting this up top so it gets your attention. The whole run out of LoS trick is an exploit, and no longer works. Yes the worm dies, but no you cannot loot it. Bummer:(
It does still work, I did it 07/11/2007. Like someone else mentioned you have to do some damage, I did about 15-20%
I tryed the carting off to the npc but they killed it and i didnt even get any xp let alone a drop.. in the end i did it solo.. Got him to about 80% then backed off to put a heal on and deal with some mobs i picked up... then curiously... the worm just died.. not sure if i've missed something but hey... turned out to be a lot easier than i thought it was going to be.

Did this on my 65 Druid (feral)
Soloed (in the conventional way)as a 69 pally...sort of tough, needed a mana potion, and to be ready with the heals. Keep pressure on him cause the poison is a lot worse than the melee...got him down to about 50% and then he just died, so don't worry if your not doing enough damage, just stay alive!
Works in 2.3.1.
Did it on my rogue, took 2 clefthoofs, I hit sprint and got around the corner with 200 health, went out of combat, ate, and I'd go in and out of combat every once in a while, ran out and shot him, even when I went out of combat his health didn't regenerate, had him at 98%, he died after about a minute.
Just 2 manned this with 65 balance druid and 65 fire mage(me). I turned combustion on and started nuking pyro/fireball/fireblast/scorch/scorch repeat.. while druid kept me healed. Used a mana gem.
