    Is the non-ombat pet that he spawns an actual item you get to re-use? Or is it a one-time summon thing from him?

      According to El's Extreme Anglin', you'll get a Magical Crawdad Box that can summon your non-combat pet, and by looking at the description for summoning the pet on Thott it certainly looks like it'll be the same as any other non-combat pet.
