Soloed it, had no "OH SHIT" moments, didn't die once. But I feel like a huge cheater. =D
Props to the above poster (Gaujo) who posted the video; it gave me the idea to try this out. This way is a bit better because you don't die, however.
If you have a complete agro dump, this quest is a piece of cake. Each time you summon one of the unwanted mobs (sand gnomes, little worms) simply run off a bit and Feign Death. The gnomes will disapear immediately and the worms will despawn after a minute or two. There's no point in fighting them - you get no loot and no xp.
For the Elite Worm -
Each time you summon, make sure your pet is put on passive and have him set on stay well outside of any agro range.
Check the time before summoning. Once you've summoned the big guy, simply move out of the original agro range and FD. The worm will go back underground (you'll see the moving rocks that show his location). You can stay FD'ed or you can pop back up. If you took any major damage, heal yourself.
After about a minute and 30 seconds, call your pet back, run into the moving rocks to grab agro and do some damage to the worm. (you might even be able to freeze trap the guy, I didn't think to try.) After making sure you've got agro, immediately have your pet tank the worm and simply worry about healing your pet. Don't worry about doing any more damge to it.
It dies at the 2 minute mark, no matter how little damage it takes. You can loot it and be on your way. =D
