I think Alterac Valley give you the most honor even if your side doesn't win. I been playin AV solely for the past week and in about a 3-4 hour time period each sitting, I get an average of about 4k honor.

  there's a quest you get in the military ward in IF which asks you to participate in a battle in each of four battlegrounds. we (alliance) won all four that i attended. Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and the Netherstorm one (i forget the name) each awarded somewhere between 50-100 honor points. they were 20 minute battles & i did my fair share of fighting.
  
  Alterac Valley consistently gives 100-200 points when your side loses, and 400-600 when your side wins, if you do your fair share of fighting & objective taking/defending. that's assuming you get to start at the beginning of the battle, rather than join a battle that's already in progress & might be near the end.
  
  AV battles usually also take about 20 min, though some of them can take an hour or more. most of the time it's fairly quick.

60 pvp gear isnt worth all that honor, you get alot better stuff through some really easy quests.

Yea, the weapons cost like the same honor at 70, and you might find GREENS better than epic 60 PvP weapons

HP are easy to do in Alterac Valley , in AV weekends I get up to 10k honor per day

  well if av gives someone who plays 12 hours a day more honor than any other BG then wouldn't it make sense for av to give someone who plays 2 hours per day more honor than any of BG? use your brain...

Answer: play battlegrounds

--killing (or being near a kill) gives points (watch your chat screen)

--battleground objectives give the whole team points - flag caps in WSG, passing 200, 400, etc. resources in AB, bunkers/captain kills in AV, other stuff in Eots

You can also gain Honor Points by PvP'ing in non-bg, outside cities. That's ussually only on pvp servers, but a little fight does happen sometime on other severs :)

Doing pvp quests also gives Honor. Completing these quests while getting honor points by the other ways is a nice way to gain alot of honor.

Anyone know the resiliance cap at lvl 80?

They should add more rewards for 80s that solely use honor points (perhaps some mounts/pets). I bought practically all PvP pieces I can use and don't have anything to spend honor on (almost 70k honor atm). I'm kind of starting to regret buying the epics from Wintergrasp with Wintergrasp tokens. The gear is exactly the same, except for the name. Could have just bought lots of Wintergrasp Commendations to send to my alts.

is there really anything to buy for people under 80 (im a 29 warrior) and if so, where would you buy such things? the only things i've seen is in stormwind, and they're all at least lvl 60 stuff

There are items for lower level players, you can find them on the three battleground specific honor vendors. The only places I know where they are are in front of their respective battlegrounds. They generally require some rep with those factions, and marks from their BGs too. Here are the three vendors for that stuff so you can see what they sell.

I think Most of you have it WRONG...
Altreac valley give you a good amount till
WINTERGRASP starts i get 3-7k Honor every time i play
And if you do all the quests in the castle...
You will recieve FROM ONE GAME Around 20k but those
quests are weekly but still its wicked,And wintergrasp
is every 2 And a half hours
( I made 30k When i did wintergrasp and did all quests the first time) I make about 10-30k a day!!! hope this helped

All good and well but as previous posters stated, what can you spend it on in the end.. It's kind of weird that there is so much more going on PvP-wise in WotLK but the rewards you can buy with honor are so limited :/
