okay, a lot of pepople have been saying that tailoring isn't a good profession with which to make gold.  This may be the case if you are on an ancient server, and very few new characters are being made.  Heres why:

-much less linen/wool/silk/mageweave is being unintentionally farmed by newbs and sold on the AH.  so the price is higher, and the value of gold itself is lower since all of the level 70's are bringing in 100g/day with ease

-there is much lower demand for the low level items(especially bags) that you're going to be making.

I am on a fairly new server, and since a vast majority of the players are in the low level range at which cloth drops like flies.... getting mats is a breeze.  Also, EVERYTHING i make sells for a profit.  It may be a slim profit, but if i'm buying stacks of silk for 50s each, then turning that silk into bags and selling those bags for 50s each.... i am getting paid to level up my tailoring profession.

    Here are a few tips:

-the very second you learn to make a new type of bolt, make that type of bolt!  you will need the bolts to make things anyways, so you might as well get the freebie profession levels while you can.  ie... the very second you can make bolts of wool cloth, make them until you no longer gain tailoring levels from making them.  then, start using those bolts to make goods.

-bags bags, and more bags.  bags are a guaranteed source of profit.  it may be slim, but it will be more than enough to cover your mat expenses.  On my server, i was buying stacks(20) of silk for 50s.  I then turned each of those stacks into 5 bolts of silk(until it wouldnt level up my tailoring skill anymore).  I then turned all of those bolts into small silk packs(10 slot bag).  i then sold each of those bags for 50s(or more).  Meaning:  for every 1.5g i paid in mats, i got 2.5g in AH profit.  I got paid about 15g to level up my tailoring skill 75 points..... not bad.

-be smart..... look for bulk buys on mageweave and runecloth.  then turn it into bags.  the cheaper you can get your mats, the more profit you will be making.  Also, while leveling your tailoring skill.... use your brain.  If at a particular level of tailoring you can't create anything that will both sell easily, and level up your skill, make whatever item will consume the least amount of resources to level up your skill.  for example at around 210-225, i made orange mageweave shirts simply because they only required one bolt to make.  i even managed to sell most of them in the AH for 50s each by saying "they give you that cooool black-arm look".

Tailoring, like any crafting profession is NOT going to bring you as much total income as a gathering profession.  However, it WILL bring you SOME income, as well as give you the ability to make some great end-game items for yourself once you hit the big 350-375 range.  furthermore, you get free bags for you and your guildies, which is a big plus.  I personally have found tailoring to be much more profitable than either blacksmithing, or leatherworking... mostly due to the high demand for bags.  But, if you want a profession combination that will yield you the greatest amount of gold income.... go with 2 gathering skills.(especially at low character levels)

Speaking of which if you are a mage, and do not have this profession you are just not playing the game right. the spellstrike set is the only set you really want, plus for me being fire spellfire set. which i will get both.

Going on that...the Spellfire/Spellstrike set combo gives more spell damage combined than Tier 4 or 5.  There are some other stats the Tiers have higher, but for myself...I'm concentrating on damage.  Figure if you can kill them quicker...you can sacrifice a little health, spirit (which does mages no good anyways for the most part).  But I'm gonna stick w/ Spellfire/Spellstrike for a long while, Tier 6 is one of the few sets for my style that will make me change.

If like me you have enchanting as well, even if you don't make money on what you make, so long as you make green or blue gear, you can disenchant it and either sell that, or use it to get a free enchanting skill increase :)

You can make dam good money once you get 375 tailoring. Sure it may take an hour or so to grind the mats u need, but things like the imbued stuff, to be fair, some off them sell, but most dont, they end up being replaced instantly buy instance drops and ppl know this, but for example atm on my server Large Primatic Shards are selling for 40g for some unknown reason, and the blue class imbued stuff always d/es into them. U make 10 of them your lookin at 400g for maybe an hours work, hour and a half tops. And they always sell quick, even more so if yo sell them in stacks of 4 or 8 since 95% of enchanting things for lvl 70 ppl require that amount. The Blue class imbued aint bop so send them to a friend for d/eing if u aint an enchanter =P Although thats worth having as well, +12 spell dmg on rings, hmm yes plox

what ppl need to realize is that with tailoring and chanting(like all non gathering profs) is that the income doesnt always come from the actual items you make, but the tips u get from doing it. especially with chanting, everyone wants their equip chanted, and  almost everyone is willing to tip at least PRETTY good for it.

it works pretty similar with tailoring. i make a great deal of gold with casters. alot of the time, on top of the actual price of making the item, they will tip.

say i make a lot of those *special item only* bags and on top of them paying for the mats, theyll tip me for making, now, i NEVER ask for tips, just the cost for the mats.

ive gotten in access of 100g just tip!! 50s+ are great for it. 70s are best bc they got all that gold AND their mounts AND now the best equip they can possibly have, so what ELSE are they gonna do with that gold?

ive gotten to 385 from 125 soley on tips and farming, i NEVER have to buy from AH.

but make sure u pair it with chanting, bc u can power lvl both by farming cloth mats, then make only green items that dont really sell for much. then, DE them, then give out free chants to anyone and EVERYONE that will take it.

so in conclusion, my friends, tailoring DOES indeed, own.
