I think thunderstomp should do X damage and then knock them down or stun for 3 seconds

the 1min. cooldown is too long to tank, do damage or anything.
3 min. with a stun would be totally okay i think

  3 second stun would be nuts. it would be a felguard's intercept with twice the cooldown but aoe and does about the same damage i think.

and in fact deals more damage than description.

Thats because it can actually crit, and has a high chance to do so.

Hence why it generates such high threat.

Mistvale Gorillas are to the north or Stranglethorn, while Elder Mistvales are to the south, near Booty Bay.

Mistvale Gorillas are level 32-33, while Elder Mistvale Gorillas are level 35-36 or so.

Thottbot mentions Thunderstomp rank 4. Has anybody seen a gorilla with such high skill? I don't, neither have Petopia.. Can somebody confirm it's existence?

How about the gorillas in northern Un'Goro crater? I would think they could...

I tamed one of these gorillas at level 33 and he is now level 35. He has Thunderstomp rank 1. The pet trainer in Orgrimmar does not offer trining in the higher ranks of this skill (even when I have the ones I can't get yet shown). Will my pet automatically improve to rank 2 once he hits level 40, or do I have to find a pet trainer elsewhere that can train me?

If you wish to get your pet an improved version of an ability like thunderstomp, you need to first find out which animal has the ability you want. You don't have to give up your pet to get it, what you do is you buy a spot in the stable and put your pet there so you have none on you. Then you go out and tame the new pet that has the ability you like. Once the new pet uses it once (at least that's how I got mine) it will be added to your spellbook (the pet training thing) as a new ability you can retrain another pet. Once you have it, you can abandon the new pet and go back to get your main pet from the stables and once he has enough training points, you can teach it to him.

Petopia is a good source for information on pets and abilities, which pets have what abilities etc.

you can get only spells growl, (whatever) resistance, great stamina and natural armour. other spells you get when taming beast with one of them. use "beast lore" to see, what abilities that beast has when tamed...

what about the tanking part? doesnt it just know growl?

this pet is acctually one of the best tankers imo. if u check there are few other pets that have an aoe move and the other ones that do have shitty dmg. as for this pet has a nice aoe to hold mobs agros so u can mend pet and multi-shot. (volley and explosive trap pulls agros from any pet so u'll have to use fein after that). and for boss tanking the only other moves it can learn is growl and bite which is not only a descent dmg attk but is nice for holdin agros since it is a strong hit unlike claw. its only downfall is that it doesn't have much buff'd armor and health like the turtle, but if u do a good job of mending (pet can keep agros off u even when u try to mend) he will most of the time never die. I personally have pulled off some crazy shit with my gorilla i got at lvl 40 from rite outside booty bay, has never failed me once yet outside of pvp. (he and i r lvl 56 now, waiting to see how well they do in ol.) one last comment, the pet only uses his aoe thunderstomp when there r MORE then 1 enemie around him, pretty smart ape since hes conserving it for when u pull an extra. u can activate it whenever u like though by simply clicking it on the special actoin bar.

Birds with screech are much better aoe tanks.

Heyy i am a new hunter in the game and i was wondering what it the best pet for a level 33 Beast Master Hunter? Any comments plz post.

If it had a similar effect to Thunderclap a gorilla would be more appealing (i am talking about the slowing effect)

This ability will be a talent in the tenacity tree for ANY tank pet to use it is goin to cause ALOT less dmg but will still cause a moderate amount of threat...Gorillas will have Pummel which works just like the warriors pummel downside is it doesn't seem to cause DMG so you will likely burn more mana and ammo which will get annoying...good news for people like me who like the T-stomp but prefer something else to the gorilla (i like the bears a bit more) bad news for those who like gorillas unless you PvP alot with them then the Interrupt will be welcome...
