Roughly 698 kills for me over 2 days. Dropped at loc 52.33. Confirming it exists, and indeed drops off the Bogflare Needlers. I got 18 greens, and almost 100g worth of trash loot.

Be warned before you set out to do this, that the little firefly has a wing sound effect, so if noisy wings bothers you. You may want to think twice before commiting to farming this pet. ^_^

This pet has a near epic drop rate percentage.  Don't get too excited when you see folks post about getting it first kill, or first five hundred kills.  It could take two thousand to .. anywhere up to ten thousand depending purely on chance.  Just keep at it if you're desperate for the pet.  It's not a viable way to farm gold, per se.  1,000 gold could be farmed in a day or two mining, rather than a week farming this item.

I have never posted on these msg boards but farming for this thing is making me do so. I wnat this pet for my main and my alt was 1 bar into 68, like 25k/750k to level. farmed it to 750k/750k, killing thousands of those, no drop. now im 1/2 into 69 and still no drop. well over 1 million experience farmed , about 6 boe blues, at least 100 greens, plant parts x 500+, and no dam bee. you ppl are so f'ing lucky who got it under 100 kills. ok back to the bees...

Ok after a long long grind of 5 days! I finally got mine! yayay its so cute and well worth it....Just keep trying really i was about to give up and then it dropped! best of luck to all of u that are trying to get it!

I was farming in Maelstrom for 4 days till I got mine.
1,500+ kills (counting the carpaces) and it dropped off of one of the two closest to the naga.
After a while, you start to know exactly where they spawn :\

found a link to this page from another comment on thott and thought i'd have a shot at farming one. killed 97 making the circle around cfr a few times picking up glowcaps on the way, it dropped unexpectedly just when i was getting bored.

the fluttering buzz sound does get quite annoying after a while, i'm standing in shattrath feeling like i'm in un'goro. it's comparable to the sound of a paper streamer tied to an electric fan, but in my opinion preferable to a whelp's flapping wing noise.

To summarize:

This drop is REALLY hard to get.

If someone comes on here and complains he must have killed 30 or 40 of these guys and still hasn't dropped, they need to be removed from society permanently.

i dont know exactly how many kills it took me to get it, as i had prolly killed about 30-40 of these mobs before i decided to install the MobInfo addon. i killed 346 bogflare needlers after i installed MobInfo so i guess i killed some 380 needlers for this to fall

location of the needler that dropped the firefly x:46.08 y:35.63. thottbot map is accurate on mob placement.also this dropped after patch 2.3.2, so answer is no, they did not remove this pet with patch 2.3

extremely rare pets are what i would call status sybols, but if you have bought it from the auction house. not so much. a pet collector has pets not for utility, but for accessory. therefore when i get people msging me saying im a moron for wasting all my time farming i merely laugh.
bottom line: people who are too ignorant to understand the thoughts of pet collectors dont deserve your attention, anyone who farms for hours on end to get something that they so much want  shouldn't be put down for it.

so congrats if u get this because it requires ALOT of time and effort unless ur plain lucky.

Update: OMG! I was busy loling with a friend that it would be typical that I was farming the wrong mobs - AND IT DROPPED?! My mobinfo reset itself for some reason but I'd estimate I killed about 500? After that, another one dropped about 10 mins later! But that is after ages and ages of farming :) One for my friend and one to sells!

I got the firefly off of a kill and just figured it was fairly common.  My heartfelt congratulations to whoever bought it from me on Dalvengyr at the AH for under 5 gold.

I'm going to go put Drano in my coffee.

There are 23 spawns of Bogflare Needlers in Zangarmarsh. 21 of them spawn on the North and West side of the lake. 2 others spawn on the East passed the Naga encampment. Their respawn is 5 minutes.

12 of the needlers spawn on the West side of the lake. They are more densely packed. The other 11 are more spread out along the North and East.

Over the course of 10 days I killed 2844 of them before it finally dropped. Killing them in 1-2 hour intervals. In that time I looted 3 blues, countless greens, and stacks upon stack of carapaces. All told I made about 500+ gold.

Droped with 448 kills (counted with mob info).
Farmed in one day.

1188th kill it dropped. was competing against an alliance bot program that was grinding the same mobs. i just /duel him every so often and he'd go afk. Dagnabit i hate bots. but geegollygosh do i love my new firefly.

Countless kills. I tried keeping track of it, but at around 600 I stopped, and that was a long time ago. 5 blues, tons of greens and I don't even want to know how many whites and grays. :) Still no Captured Firefly.

In an attempt to make this a somewhat useful post, here's the path I've been taking. There are around 20 of the Needlers along the red lines.



Hoping the gods of Thottbot will smile upon me and let the firefly drop soon. Fingers crossed!

Come closer, my friend. Closer still, my only friend, Madness.

This swamp was once my friend, when I was a much younger man. Many days I spent adventuring here among the fens and bogs, protecting the ungrateful denizens of the gods-forsaken muck.

I had many names here; Savior of the Sporeggar, Bane of Bloodscale, Exalted Of The Kurenai. I hear the names they whisper now in their dark, cold, damp hearts. But there is one name I relish - Madman!

The twin spires rise and fall in their ongoing dance of death and war, torn between the hearts and blades of men and orcs. I care little for the petty squabbles around me. Even the naga keep their distance now, a lesson learned the hard way. Their seers think they understand the empty gaze in my eye, but they don't know. They've yet to meet my true friend.

Even the raindrops were once my friends, cleansing me, body and soul, of the filth of this place. But now they're no more than insolent reminders of how long I've been here. My armor rusts, my tunic is soaked, and my skin has lost all memory of the warmth of a fire or the touch of another's hand.

But my true friend is always here.

As are the Needlers. Ah, yes, the Needlers. Their golden ichor coats my axes, runs down my gauntlets, and is splattered across my tabbard. I wear it proudly, defiantly, as an omen of their impending doom. The incessant buzzing of their delicate wings fills my waking thoughts and my sleeping dreams... dreams that end with piles of their fractured carapaces and twitching legs piled at my feet.

I will continue my hunt until they surrender one of their own. Only then will the slaughter come to an end. Only then will my appetite be fulfilled.

Only then will my true friend be sated.

I am happy for those who say they got it in a couple of kills , but for us collectors , who dont care how much gold is offered ... it took me a few days between my dailies and rep expíng for my dragon flier ... not too hsrd but must keep at it ... was killing for 3 hours , went to the kitchen to sneak a snack while wife cooked dinner and got bact to killing ... it was awsome to see it in the trade window , started shouting and my wife yelled back ... get a life ... ohh well ... woot I got mine ...

This grind will be a great way to level my death knight without doing those annoying quests! Wish me luck!

my friend told me a couple good hours and you'll get it. he sells them on ah for about 5k, so im like 2-3 hours no prob...by hour 3 i had invested to much time to give up. players by this point who kill ANY bee piss u off soooo much, and u get paranoid wondering if that was the one, anyways by hour 10 i got it :D not sure how many kills i had, but i was able to clear before respawns, so i was going as fast as possible...i dunno if it was worth it, id rather pay the 5k if i had it

After five days of farming, 50 greens, one blue and over a thousand kills it finally dropped for me and on my birthday too, woot!

I got it this morning after killing a few mobs while doing daily fishing. I was still looking for it so I was quite happy when it dropped. Haven't killed many in total so i guess i consider myself very lucky ;)

I've killed close to 10,000. I'm losing my shit as we speak.

EDIT:  It too about 300 more kills but I finally got it!  Never give up!

Finally got my Firefly after 4 days of grinding, little over 4000 kills, 1.8k worth of trash 3 blues 100+ greens and 1 damn firefly!

If I never see another Fractured Carapace again, I'll be a happy man.

Got it after about 300 kills.  There was a Godfather marathon on TV... I started grinding at the beginning of the first movie and it dropped partway through the second, around the time Fredo got the kiss of death.  Whenever I watch those movies from now on I will see fireflies.
