Just like with the other ratings, the values listed here equal 1% for that characterlevel.

At 70, you will need 15.77 haste rating for 1% haste, not 10.51; i suppose this will be corrected here in the future.

For each 15,77 haste rating you will get 1% more of your base attacks per second. Lets say you are a Rogue with a 2,6s Weapon. 2,6s means 0,38 attacks per second, with slice and dice up you will get 30% more, 0,38*1,3=0,49 attacks per second, which is 2,02s speed. If you added 158 haste rating on your gear with the same weapon you would get 0,38*1,4=0.53 attacks per second or 1,88s speed. The factor 1,4 is just the 30% from s&d added to the 10% rating gain plus 1 for the formula.

I don't understand. It makes you attack faster?

This post was written for rogues but make sense.  Attack speed is not understood.

I'm a level 10 rogue. My attack power is 61.  Eviscerate does 35 to 47 damage at level five action point.

If you are going attack power use Eviserate.  If you are weapon damage use else.  If you have a slow weapon that hits hard then slice and dice seems good.

My weapon attack speed is 1.4.  My weapon only does 11 damage.  Every second my knife does 1 divide 1.4 damage * weapon damage of 11.  Mine is .714*11 = 7.86 damage per second.

7.86 * 1.2 = 9.43 *where 1.2 equal slice and dice.  That means slice and dice adds 9.43-7.86=1.57 so 1.57 extra damage per second.  The top rank of slice and dice is 21 seconds.  21 sec x 1.57 extra damage is 33 damage from slice and dice.

At this time my weapon sucks.  A better weapon makes the damage from slice and dice nice plus you can't miss.  You target yourself.

    35 - 47 damage from Eviscerate
33 damage from Slice and dice
Once my level six white weapon changes to a blue powerhouse, slice and dice makes sense.

Burst damage is nice but not when you keep missing.

*where 1.2 equal slice and dice is where you substitute.  Slice and dice adds 20% haste.  Haste +10 is like 1.01 instead of 1.2

Permanent haste makes sense over attack power.  Sometimes.  I hit quicker but not as hard.  I miss but hit you more often.

im a lvl 80 rogue. and this is what i think about haste rating

    haste rating = AP

but the problem with haste rating is u gotta stack a hell of it to really feel the different and haste rating gear is not easy to find.

usually haste rating gear doesnt give crit rating. i think because the outcome dps from haste is about the same as stacking crit rating.

so if u think AP > crit % , then go stack haste rating, with the amount of AP u have + haste is awesome

if u like ur crit % and wanna keep it really high, then forget about haste rating. bcause u cant have both , the gear wont let u

So on the ptr, I geared my rogue with all the haste and speed increasing buffs/abilities I could think of for the sole purpose of making my offhand as fast as possible.

    2 mongoose procs = 10%
slice and dice: 45% w/ tier 6 bonus
    3.1 passive haste 10%
    heroism 30%
    blade flurry 20%
gemming, enchanting, gearing for haste = 15.5%
    hyperspeed accelerators - 10%
    haste potion - 12.2%

    with a 1.3 speed offhand.

    1.3/((1+(10/100))(1+(45/100))(1+(10/100))(1+(30/100))(1+(20/100))(1+(15.5/100))(1+(10/100))(1+(12.2/100)))

    =0.33 weapon speed.

3 attacks per second :3 combat potency was quite pleased.

I love the ptr, you can do awesome expensive time consuming crap like this :D

Generally it can be useful for any class - affects both melee & spell.

For mages it depends on how much other stats you have, e.g. if you have too little spell power, then more of that is better than haste - right then. When enough SP, then haste might be good - unless you have too little crit. And that's two examples regarding DPS.

If you have too little mana and can't keep shooting, then haste will empty your pool even faster - not a good thing. Slower leveling and death may ensue. And it will even affect your overall DPS.

Also different specs will have different "too little".
      And even different play styles.

The smaller the question, the bigger the answer.
This question requires going to school.
