Fin, thanks very much for spelling it out. I'm leveling a BM hunter at the moment and very few posts explain exactly why a fast weapon becomes inefficient.
Having said that, I don't think that it was particularly obvious until you spelled it out.
Damn, I hope I don't sound so arrogant when I'm giving people the benefit of my years of experience playing a rogue.

  There is one, and only one, reason why a hunter should ever roll on this item. Caster interrupt in battlegrounds. It's a strategy that isn't used very much because it drops DPS dramatically. But, theoretically anyway, The UBER fast shot speed and a BM\MM spec might be able to put out so many arrows that spells can be massively delayed. In practice though, caster talents that reduce dmg interrupts make this pretty much null and void. Any BM hunter at this point should be sticking to the Wolfslayer Rifle or Barrel Bladed Longrifle.
  
  So, in a roundabout way, hunters should never have this item.

Honestly, his tone was rediculously restrained. If you can't figure out what he was saying on your own by level 70, then you must be picking points in you spec by eenie-meenie-minie-moe.
There are too many hunters out there who think they are good and can't put out the dps of a holy priest, and they really need to take the 5-10 minutes it takes to actually pay attention to their build, spec and stats, and gain a modicum of understanding on how those things relate.
