This shield has effectively made shamans a "Plate Armor" class.
Judging by the other Mail armor pieces that drop off the same boss as this shield, we should all get used to the idea that more and more Shamans will be running around with 14-15k armor eventually.
Of course. Especially since every other shaman is in the guild that clears Mt Hyjal no problem.
hey never said they could...
Ehm.. He ment that his rogue woulden stand a chance aginst shamans and paladins whit shields like this.. Dumb ass
looks like this:
It's bind on pick-up, dummy.
srry for those who claims this shield is the best healing shield, but i prefer the Felstone Bulwark it's way better than this one...i dont care much for the slightly more armor and block...
Felstone Bulwark:
5930 Armor
160 Block
+28 Stamina
+21 Intellect
spell crit: 27
increased healing by spells and effects: 64
Antonidas's Aegis of Rapt Concentration:
6336 Armor
174 Block
+28 Stamina
+20 Intellect
spell crit: 20
increased healing by spells and effects: 42
The damage shield gives healing as well. Note the "increases spell damage and healing by 42." Some people do think this is a better healing shield than the Felstone Bulwark, but I'd agree it's worse.
To be clear, this is a spell DAMAGE shield. Those who want some healing and some magic damage, might choose this. I really don't know how much of a nuker a paladin can be, so I can't comment on which is better.... I can comment on how well a shaman can nuke. :)
Dear god! if people think its a better healing shield then felstone bulwark they should just delete there accounts now, but one thing if felstone bulwark hasnt dropped, i guess you can use it for a healing shield but only if they have nothing better
Named after Archmage Antonidas of the Kirin Tor, Jaina Proudmoore's instructor, who was killed by the Scourge during the invasion on Dalaran.
People arguing these things give me headaches. I imagine shamans would want this more, but I see few reason why the guild wouldn't let paladins roll with shamans.
probably the sham since it diesnt say healing but dmg and healing better question is who would get it if there wasnt a pally or a sham in the group
lol this aint only a pala tank shield, its also a elemental shaman shield u tool
So shamans wouldn't "seriously" need it? Both shamans and paladins use magic spells and heals. The paladin has stronger heals, but the shaman has stronger spells but.
I think this would be, by far, the best Elemental, Restoration, and enhancement shield. As an enhancement shaman, I treat my healing and damaging spells as equally important as my physical attacks. I should add that restoration and elemental shamans often benefit quite significantly from spell crit.
enhancement shammy don't need shields thats retarded if they use it, your not there for spell damage your there for WF proccing
Whoever decided that a paladin will always be an off tank or a healer? I'm a 70 paladin that always is the MT in our guild, let me tell you were not JUST off tanks and healers. I mean heck all the warriors in my guild went DPS! Geez! Whos to MAKE us do all these things?
And by the way Shammys... if your MT isn't a pally... even if it IS a pally... roll anyway... no one should miss out on something like this :)
I don't care what anyone says. This is the best shaman shield in the game. Priority over paladins? Heck ya. We will make tons better use over that bonus dmg than you can possibly imagine. Use your badge shield or somethign else, but this is for shamans.
Like the previous posted stated, this is THE best elemental Shaman shield in the game. A paly should not get it over a elemental shaman. Then again it will come down to who has more DKP anyway.
I agree, for tanking, the Bulwark of Azzinoth is hands down kickass. For tanking, a paladin needs to do damage to hold aggro, so it's not ideal. Another obstacle to face, what's the chance a paladin will get this shield over a warrior? Very slim chance that your raid party will not have a warrior to tank in Black Temple. For a paladin, I would just give up on getting this shield unless ALL the warriors in your raid already has it.
Now back to the Antonidas's Aegis of Rapt Concentration discussion. This shield clearly is ideal for a Prot Paladin as with the high block, Stamina, Intelligent, and Spell Damage/crit. As for Pally have no use for spell crit is a load of BS. spell crit kicks off our holy damage from judging SoC and smacking with SoR. The +spell damage is calc into your concentration ticks, so the more damage the bettter you hold aggro. So this shield's stats is ultilized by a Paladin in everyway.
Now who gets this? I would say, both Prot Paladin and elemental shammy takes priorty and it's ultimately up to the raid to decide. If none then it goes to a Holy Paladin, then the rest.
Between the two, I truly feel, the Paladin will be of more use to the group with this shield than an elemental shammy will.
The primary reason you have an elemental shammy in group is for dps/buff/backup healer. Lets face it, Elemental shammy fall short in damage comparison to a Mage and Lock & healing vs a resto spec shammy/druid, holy paladin and priest with similar quality of gears on.
Where as a protection paladin is for main or off-tank/buff/aura/de-aggro bubble for Mages & Lock and sometime the healers. Which most of the time will save the group from wipe. Nothing worst than having your healer getting attacked.
So in short, I say give it to the guy who will improve the group as a whole for future raids.
A lot of people are under the wrong misconception that going from lvl1-70 means you know how to play your class. Sadly for some if not more, it merely means you put alot of time into WOW. If someone is telling you to do something, try it and see if it works, instead of "i've played from lvl1-70, I know what I'm doing." (Ignorance & Arrogance is bliss)
its not a part of a set it's from BT Paladin, shaman shield.
Elemental Shaman should get priority
As a tankadin, I would not roll for this. I don't need the spell damage this adds. I get enough from my sword and from some of my equipment.
I want a shield with more Stamina and midigation.
Now Tempest of Chaos I would want to roll on.
Definetly Elemental Shaman Shield. If some Paladin would take this from me, i would kill him.
ok this drops in Mt. Hyjal. So let me assure u that:
a) no one will be ROLLING on it.
b) a guild with that kind of progression knows damn well who deserves this item, not only by class, but down to the individual person.
So, when a hyjal PUG downs the boss that drops this, then the discussion above becomes reasonable. Until then, u can stop.
If this shield really belonged to Antonidas, then it should be legendary ^^
Since Antonidas was killed by the scourge, and since the scourge and the burning legion worked together, it's actually pertinent to see it in Archimonde's hands
Didn't know archmages could use shields btw, could lead to a rather imba heroic class ^^ (mage with 11 k AC ftw)
It's really one of those many items that either of the intended classes can use. But as a rule of thumb, generally tanks and healers get first pick due to there being not as many options for them and harder to get anything on their own.
I personally wouldn't let a Holy Pally (I have one), Enhancement (and one of these) or Resto Shaman roll on this if there was a Prot Pally or a Elemental Shaman who needed it.
Basically the crit is more for a Elemental Shaman but the armour and block is for the Prot Pally though none of the stats are wasted on either.
If the pally had a warrior type shield (anything without int, mana regen or spell damage) and was hurting for caster stats then he/she would get preference.
Other than that words of advice, be nice to your tanks and healers otherwise they may tell you to roll one yourself as they exit the guild (this doesn't mean you have to bend over backwards for them). ^^
this is totally an elemental shaman shield, not a prot pally, and this is probably the best shield for ele shammys
If those goes to anyone but an elemental shaman, its retarded. It's the only true upgrade from the badge shield, which was in the first tier of badge items. Any prot paladin that wants this is being greedy considering the handful of options they get. While this may be slightly superior for them, it will be a massive upgrade for any elemental shaman. This was a 19 dmg upgrade for me.
shields give too much avoidance to waste this item slot on spell dmg for a paladin
rings and cloak can each give at least 30 spell dmg at this lvl of gear and dont usualy give great defensive stats
