I have waded through the absolute muck of posts of several websites that let users post and one thing is for certain: most people agree that the Felsteel Longblade is not the best weapon for Rogue, that it is just ok for Hunters and a good weapon for Warriors depending on spec.
I would like to discuss this weapon from a Combat Sword Rogue POV but offer something completely different: * The Many Reasons Why You Would* get these blades.
* The Many Reasons Why You Would *
1.) PVP Battlegrounds is not for you. (Grand Marshall’s)
2.) PVP Arena is not for you. (Gladiator’s Slicer)
3.) You chose Scryers instead of Aldor. (Vindicator’s Brand)
4.) You do not want to farm Aldor rep for months. (Vindicator’s Brand)
5.) You are not a Blacksmith with a specialization in Swordsmithing. (Fireguard)
6.) You have not been extremely lucky with random world drops. (Blindstrike)
7.) Your server has a wildly over-priced Auction House. (Any Bind on Equip)
8.) You were not lucky enough to get Latro’s Shifting Sword on your pass, or several passes, through Black Morass. (Instance runs into BM are generally very rare on most servers.)
9.) You are not in a Raiding Guild and/or have not earned Kharazan or Serpentshrine Cavern yet. (Spiteblade)
* The Many Important Reasons Why You Would *
1.) Good looks. As many have discussed before me, the Felsteel Longblade is arguably the best looking sword of its type both wielded and sheathed. Many people find the looks of their character to be an important factor when choosing gear.
2.) It is actually a highly ranked weapon for Rogues on many weapon comparison charts, despite the questionable mathematics or flawed damage meters that some people swear by. Level: 105 / 83.4 DPS / +26 AGI / +15 STA / Speed: 2.20. It is obvious that the sword is too fast for main hand and too slow for off hand though most people would agree that the raw DPS is, at least, on par or better than most of the rare swords in its class.
3.) The most important reason by far is: control. You are completely in control of the acquisition. A player will be able to farm the MATs for this sword very easily and/or purchase them from the Auction House. There are, usually, at least a few people happy to use their Nethers for a fee.
* Recommendations *
1.) Enchantments. I strongly recommend the Mongoose enchant for this, and all other, swords for Combat Rogue.
2.) Use these swords for regular PVE and instances while working on getting one of the ultimate sets like: Blindstrike + Latro’s Shifting Sword.
I hope this post dispels some of the random nonsense and inaccuracies. I will always carry my Felsteel Longblades especially in town…
