If you are afraid to set foot into Western Plaguelands, which is by far the quickest way, DON'T do what this guy says, but swim across the big lake (lordamere? don't really remmeber.) Anyway don't do that either, do this:
Go to Western Plaguelands, take the FP there (you can't miss it). You will probably go to SM more than once, as it is not a frustrating instance (like Gnomeregan) but short and more or less straightforward and the drops are good. So next time you start from this FP.
Follow the road, you will notice a lake, jump into it (since the road goes through some ruins with a lot of undead mobs) and swim to the northern shore (the swim only takes a couple of seconds).
CAREFULLY get out of the water (turn the camera around to see where the mobs are, the visibility isn't the best) and make your way between the mobs to the road, it's only like 20 yards. Once you are on the road just go west to tirisfal glades.
If you get aggro during the run and are playing a class which has no means to escape, just make sure that you die close to the road so you can resurrect in a safe place. You should die at most once during this trip (those 20 yards are the only tricky part.)
Even if you die there, the trip is still much, much quicker than the usual route.
